Cinco de Mayvember

Don’t look now, but the snow gods seem to have been beaten back by the forces of Cinco de Mayo. I picture them battling up there in the clouds like the forces of good and evil. Snow Gods shooting icicles out of their fingers – zzzzzzzing! Cinco de Mayo gods firing back with explosions of habañero peppers – take THAT! Pchchchch!  Snow gods yell, “My eyes! My eyes!” and stumble backward retreating to the ice palace at the pole.

And when the smoke cleared… THIS.

Today, the sun sunned, and the wind unwinded, and neither flake nor drop fell from the sky. It was a beautiful thing.

(I haven’t actually said any of this out loud, by the way. These electrons have been magically implanted directly into your brain so as to avoid… the jinx.)

And another harbinger of spring made an appearance today in Kodiak!

Let’s have a warm welcome back for the clowns of the sea, also known as tufted puffins who have come home, literally, to roost!  They’re the ones that have eyebrows like your crazy uncle – one of the two puffin species who call Alaska home in the summer, and hightail it out when their business is done. [You can hear the sound they make HERE. It is as amusing as how they look!]

And here’s my final bit of good news for the day. Check it out!

This is not only good news for those of you who live in Southcentral Alaska, it is also good news for those of you who would rather be reading about, and looking at pictures of spring springing, and not listening to the deranged ravings of a madwoman with cabin fever. I am cautiously optimistic…

Eventually, AKM, you’ll get the weather you’re longing for. It’s inevitable.

Sunny(finally) and near 70(finally). Another day like today and it will rain for three days in a row. Wuz busy helping neighbor replace lawn mower battery. Glenn is 86 and his memory is starting to slip bad. Couldn’t remember how to make rider move forward or backward. Not a problem, rilly, since it wouldn’t turn over. My guess is bad solenoid. Headed to shop tomorrow if he remembers to pick mikey up. For being a season of renewal,it breaks my heart to see my elderly friends struggle with memory and infirmities. Starting to lose track of all neighbors who have headed for the big cornfields in the sky. Wish someone could find a cure for aging or mayhaps better yet, find an anti-dote to caring and compassion so mikey doesn’t feel so deserted when loved ones inevitably leave. I rilly wannabe happy all the time. On the bright side there are more than enough “pups” who contribute the laughter I so crave. Now,let’s party!!

      there’s no anti-dote mikey.
just have to sit and rest a spell and get your breath back.
      then you can laugh again.
none of it makes any sense.
      no, it doesn’t.

Mikey…I remember a lady who had already reached 95 y/o when I was in my mid30s told me when we were at a reading group.

She missed her friends and loved ones who had ‘gone before her’ but she was determined to surround herself with ‘younger kids’ as much as she could so she had others to share her memories with.

She lived to 104 and we ‘younger kids’, including many in their 60’s and 70’s, made sure to keep her in our lives that whole time. It is a perspective I will never forget.

Hugs for helping your neighbor and any others dealing with getting older. It gladdens my heart to know you are there!!

A pre-Cautionary tale for you bird lovers. With tufted puffins you also get tarted palins, who neither sound or look funny(or bright). Not sure if their business is ever finished. The flock leader is a female? with a foul mouth and bad attitude. Heavily armed and totally inaccurate. Rumoured to congregate with religious coo-coos and second amendment chickenhawks.

Music from the best for this moment 🙂
