Mayor Dan Sullivan Seeks Higher Office
On Thursday, Anchorage Mayor Dan Sullivan filed a letter of intent to run for statewide office.
He did not report the office for which he will be running on his APOC form, but the rumor mill has ben churning on this one, and all indications are he’ll be running for Lt. Governor, just as all indications are that current Lite Gov Mead Treadwell will be running for the U.S. Senate seat currently occupied by Mark Begich.
As in Hawaii and Utah, Alaska’s Lieutenant Governor runs a completely separate race from the gubernatorial candidates.
So, who would get stuck with “Mayor Dan?” So far, Bill Walker and current Gov. Sean Parnell have both tossed their hat in the Republican Party ring for Governor. Nobody yet (including Sullivan) has officially declared their candidacy for Lt. Governor, but that same rumor mill says that State Senator Lesil McGuire (R) has had her eye on that chair for some time.
As Lt. Governor, Sullivan’s duties would include… (wait for it)… overseeing the Division of Elections. What could possibly go wrong? (Click HERE to see what could possibly go wrong)
Despite the fact that Mayor Dan hasn’t fessed up about the office he’s seeking on his form, we have learned several things for sure.

1) His middle name is Albert.
2) It is definitely not Commissioner Dan Sullivan of the Department of Natural Resources, it’s “Mayor Dan.”
Mayor Dan likes to be called Mayor Dan so as to avoid the confusion about the two Dan Sullivans. It also makes him sound beloved, like his adoring minions just couldn’t call him Mayor Sullivan because he’s such a swell, accessible guy. In response to this new self-imposed moniker of affection, many have taken to calling Mayor Dan “Lieutenant Dan” with a Forrest Gump accent. So, if he does win the Lieutenant Governorship it will be some kind of a strange prophecy, and he will be even more “Lieutenant Dan” than he was before.
3) He has an aol email address.
I’ll leave it to the humor site The Oatmeal to explain what the use of the aol email address tells us about Mayor Dan.
- Before asking for computer help still thinks it’s funny to say, “I’m computer illiterate Lol”
- Calls you on the phone to tell you about a neat website they’ve discovered, then says into the receiver, ” h… t… t… p… colon… slash… slash… w… w… w… dot…”
- Prints out emails and brings them over to your house.
Have at it Lieutenant Dan. What’s one more ingredient in the stew of crazy that will be 2014? It’s going to be a memorable year.
Yep.
What else besides planning “parties” does the Mayor Dan’s chauffeur do?
It’s obvious that Captain Zero needs help in this next election so as not to appear too dweebish. Mayor Dan is certainly the polar opposite of Parnell. Should be an exotic ticket.

OK, y’all, does anyone else see a wee bit of discrepancy in the responses on the application/filing paper?
Assuming “Mayor Dan” filed the papers himself, and assuming he was truthful in giving his first, middle, and last names as “Filer” of said papers, shouldn’t then, the “Legal First Name” [of the Candidate] also be “Daniel” — and not “Dan”?
While I can certainly see the need to ask the questions about the candidate’s “display name” and their legal names, (ie: Issur Danielovitch Demsky running for Mayor might want to have “Kirk Douglas” as his “display name” because that’s what everyone knows him by…although I’m sure he’s *legally* changed it to KD from IDD, by now), I’m really puzzled why “Daniel” filed the papers and yet, “Dan” is entered as his “Legal First Name”.
Other than he’s probably not the sharpest tool in the shed, any ideas on *why* Mayor Dan was unable and/or incapable of filling out a fairly simple and straight-forward form –consistently and/or accurately!– to file as a candidate in the 2014 state-wide election for the “Office: [of] Did Not Report”? I mean, how difficult could it be? ’tis a real puzzlement to me. beth.
I was wondering if that was the party planner. Wasn’t sure. Hey Jeanne, I’m just wondering when this picture was taken. I just think it’s funny that you have a picture of he and his wife and a picture of he and his “friend” in the same post.
It is good to have friends!
Thanks to the wonders of the Internet Archive Wayback machine, this gem of Mayor Dan, Uncle Ted ad VECO Bill is forever preserved.

thanks.
My first thought was that Alaskan voters are smart enough not to vote for him. Then I remind myself of some of the people we currently have in office.
GAK! And let’s check out his expectations of having the municipality provide him $193,000 or so of life insurance before,he leaves town. Amazing what pond scum can aspire to.
Um…I’ll I’ve got is WTFOY!
Its all the same to Dan. He’s of the bagger persuasion. They hate government
and want to starve their constituents–but they know THEY won’t starve getting a government
check.
Alaskan Politics never cease to amaze me…. wonder if the UN election observers can be called in….
Arghh.
Party Planner is still in the mix! This dies call for popcorn!
It’s always nice to see the Party Planner!
Ditto !
