A Little Light Comedy from the GOP
You just gotta love Michael Steele. He’s kind of like the head clown, leading all the other clowns in their herd of little red clown cars right over the edge of the cliff. What lies at the bottom? Complete political irrelevance. There was a recent Gallup poll that said only 21% percent of Americans self-identify as Republicans any more. This gives me hope. Although we are continually bombarded with messages from that loud 21%, reasonable people have actually been scared away from the fringe religious radical right leanings of the Republican party and have jumped ship.
But meanwhile, if you want to see what’s got “the base” all fired up these days, here’s a little stand up routine from RNC chairman Micheal Steele. I love the first part about how we’ve decided we’re not going to talk about how we screwed up anymore. Our epic failure? We are SO over that. And personal reflection and introspection? Fuggetaboutit.
Steele was “bold and courageous” when he stood up to Limbaugh — for a day.
Sauerkraut #67: “Well, yanno, Martha… what she really meant was “dull and pretentious.”
I don’t think Sarah “really meant” anything. Words for her mostly convey attitudes, not information. It’s tinsel talk. If anything, by “bold and courageous” she “meant”: “I like Michael Steele … if you like me you should like Michael Steele … if you like Michael Steele you should like me … and you should like me liking Michael Steele.” Note that none of the foregoing says anything about Michael Steele.
;Zanies? Oh, I bet Flynureye could do something cool with that.
PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP——UKE!!!! What a flippin’, outrageous hypocrite. Good grief! I have to go throw-up now.
Yes, martha, I’ve been told by other ‘blogger’ that my type is not welcome in the GOP. Well darnit, I’m sticking around. I want every bigot gone. I want abortion off the table, and personal responsiblity replacingit. I have issues with the DNC as well. But it’s getting close to purging the party. We’re in the wilderness bECAUSE of bigots like Palin and Huckabee. And their followers can follow them straight to the big buring place under the earth!!
It is absolutely mind boggling that the RepoTaliban can’t understand that the voters know who bankrupted the government and put trillions of our tax dollars into their own pockets.
Like duh, where have they been the last 8 years while the rest of us watched the Bushies screw us over.
The GOP love to prove my point. You just can’t make this stuff up!
Rick Perry Aide: Don’t Open Up GOP Like A “Whorehouse”
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – A comment by a strategist for Gov. Rick Perry that the Republican Party shouldn’t open itself “like a whorehouse” to new voters has infuriated prominent GOP women in Texas and given Perry’s primary rival, U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, fuel for the re-election fight.
Carney said he agreed the Republican Party needed to attract new voters. But, he added, “that doesn’t mean you take your principles and throw them out the door and become a whorehouse and let anybody in who wants to come in, regardless.”

When you say “radical right” today, I think of these moneymaking ventures by fellows like Pat Robertson and others who are trying to take the Republican Party away from the Republican Party, and make a religious organization out of it. If that ever happens, kiss politics goodbye.
The Washington Post (28 July 1994
Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they’re sure trying to do so, it’s going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can’t and won’t compromise. I know, I’ve tried to deal with them.

In comment 47 Martha quotes Muthee as saying, “Use her to turn this nation the other way around.” His prayer was answered fully. Palin became the VP nominee and the nation decided to “turn the other way around” and kick the GOP out. Palin was the key, when people saw her they decided to vote for Obama.

martha, Ido respect you, but I also diagree with you on some points. I will conceed that the party has been taken over by KKK type bigots. We have a few token blacks. And they are just that – Token. Right now, there is no room for new Ideas. I am anti- abortion – but would not want to take that right away from ANYONE. I feel education is the key, and personal responsiblity needs to be taught (Bristol? Are you listening to this mom?). I get really cheesed off when I see folks just saying no for no’s sake. I think Obama is doing some things right – and some things wrong. But I’m not going to lockstep tell him no without listening to his ideas. That’s our problem right now. We want to be idolize Jerry Springer type politics, and it’s backfiring.
=========================================
I don’t see any disagreement with what you are saying??
With your outlook there is no room for you in this GOP. There needs to be a new conservative party for you and the country. There is nothing wrong with a conservative point of view, it is needed for balance.
The problem is that there is no democracy when you govern from religious dogma. It turns everybody off. No one wants others religious beliefs foisted onto them.
Unlike you, they want to take away the right to choose based on their religion, they are anti gay for the same reason. They are even racist “the mark of Cain” they believe.
The constitution guarantees the separation of church and state, the GOP have married them.
Great comment today that I am stealing from another blog:
“Conservatives are so obsessed over the way things should be that they can’t deal with the way things are.”
Too many examples:
1) Teens should not have sex. (reality, they do, always have and it’s hard-wired)
2) gays should not be in the military. (reality, they are and there seems to be no probl)
3) People should be frugal, save. (reality, the economic system is consumer driven)
martha, Ido respect you, but I also diagree with you on some points. I will conceed that the party has been taken over by KKK type bigots. We have a few token blacks. And they are just that – Token. Well, yanno, Martha… what she really meant was “dull and pretentious.”
Boston Globe:
Colin Powell issued a sharp rebuke last night to Rush Limbaugh and Dick Cheney for trying to exclude him from the backbiting Republican Party. […]
“Rush Limbaugh says, ‘Get out of the Republican Party.’ Dick Cheney says, ‘He’s already out.’ I may be out of their version of the Republican Party, but there’s another version of the Republican Party waiting to emerge once again,” Powell told the crowd.
======================================
There is another version of A conservative party, not this one.
When the GOP sold it’s soul to the religious right, they gave up their party.
The religious right controls the base, in fact they ARE the base. All that this base can offer are religious idealouges and delusional, narcissistic fools.
Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachman, Dick Cheney, Bobby Jindal, Mark Stanford, Rick Perry, Tim Pawlenty, Mitt Romney, Charlie Crist, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Glen Beck, Laura Ingram, Ann Coulter, Newt Gingrich, Jeb Bush, John McCain, just to name a few.
There is no room in this GOP, for pro choice, equal rights for gay Americans, fair representation of women or cultural diversity.
Because of that, this GOP no longer represents America, nor will it in the future.
The very nature of America is an ever changing, maturing, growing landscape.
The GOP are stuck in the past, dominated by wealthy whites, preaching from a church pulpit to a foreign congregation.
The GOP have become foreigners in their own country.
The GOP even lost “Joe the Plumber”!
Did he say Reign of Terror?
The only thing tht is terrorizing is the Republican Party and its small minded Live in the Past attitude they still have.
It the old/still current “Our way or the Hiway” that Most Americans fear about the Republican party.

Steele says that Ronald Reagan wouldn’t “look back” but would be looking forward. He seems to forget that Reagan signed the UN Convention on Torture. He also spoke out against torture. So, I guess he was all for looking back since you can’t prosecute something that has not already happened.

Actually, I don’t see where that Gallup poll says 21% identify as Republicans. But these two polls do:
The number of people who identify themselves as Republican:
18%…. http://www.ap-gfkpoll.com/pdf/AP-GfK_Poll_Topline_April_2009.pdf
21%…. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/polls/postpoll_042609.html
Both polls show that the Republicans have lost 4% of their members in the last couple of months.

“Today, we have a friend in RNC Chairman Michael Steele and his bold and courageous speech defines his leadership goals that will guide us all through this most difficult time for our nation.”
Governor Sarah Palin
If she can’t SPEAK like this, what makes one think she can WRITE like this? Megamouth strikes (yet) again! And Steele? The reason the RNC chose him in the first place is painfully obvious. However, much like her ‘ness, looks won’t necessarily get the vote. It’s all nice until they speak!
Michael Steele, the Yogi Berra of politics. Except Yogi is likeable.
I saw this live, and I was like “what the f is he talking about, he must be joking? Who says that kind of thing on notional TV?” I am sure this new “strategy”, if you want to call it that, will work out very well for them.

I really, REALLY wish somebody would turn off her jargon generator. It’s become a game to me, listening to her speeches and identifiying her pet phrases: “This great country,” which she uses to replace “This great state” when she’s speaking for the national audience. “Bold and courageous,” as somebody above pointed out. “Momumental shift,” “free-market capitalism,” “strong work ethic.” Need I go on? It’s like the Palin Baby Name Generator game in realtime.
Sarah Palin Gushes Over Steele’s “Bold And Courageous” Speech
Found this on Huff Post..
Can’t decide if I should pat him kindly on the head and reassure him that yes, Santa Claus IS real, if I should wash his mouth out with soap for telling such lies, if I should put him up for an academy award for being able to say those things as if he actually believes them, or if I should just laugh uproariously. Politico:
Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin praised Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele as “bold and courageous” late Tuesday while knocking President Barack Obama as “predictable as Alaska’s winter snow.” […]
“We have another voice in Washington, D.C. — a man who understands what Alaskans believe: less centralized government control, restrained budgets, more opportunity for development and fewer taxes,” Palin said.
“Today, we have a friend in RNC Chairman Michael Steele and his bold and courageous speech defines his leadership goals that will guide us all through this most difficult time for our nation.”
Turning to Obama, Palin said “change” in the president’s administration “has meant rapid movement toward massive government growth, huge tax burdens on future generations and an unprecedented reliance upon foreign countries.”
“We are now witnessing actions that will lead to a monumental shift away from free-market capitalism and the strong work ethic that built this great country,” she said. “Government should not be in the auto industry business.”
==============================================
Palins delusions continue. Aren’t you Alaskans glad that Steele is a man who understands what Alaskans believe? Good grief!
Considering that Steele’s speech was another joke to the Dem’s, a cringe for most of the GOP and made the butt of all the late night programs…….it makes perfect sense that Palin would continue to attempt to wear out the words………….”bold and courageous”………what is obvious rubbish to everyone else, Palin pretends to comprehend. A perfect example is Palins hilarious Sarkozy moment!
During the campaign “bold and courageous” was used ad nauseam by Palin.
In the viral video clip of her being “blessed” by the Kenyan witch hunter/doctor” Thomas Muthee , Palin refers to him as being “bold”. Palin nods in agreement with the pastor when he says Alaska will be a refuge state for the “lower 48” states just before and during Armageddon. Palin must have been reminded of Muthee, by Michael Steele, although they have nothing in common but the color of their skin.
Palin;
“Pastor Muthee was here and he was praying over me, and you know how he speaks and he’s so bold,” she said. “And he was praying ‘Lord make a way, Lord make a way’ … He said, ‘Lord make a way and let her do this next step.’ And that’s exactly what happened.”
Muthee;
“Come on, talk to God about this woman. We declare, save her from Satan,” Muthee says as two attendants place their hands on Palin’s shoulders. “Make her way my God. Bring finances her way even for the campaign in the name of Jesus. … Use her to turn this nation the other way around.”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jl4HIc-yfgM
And dumb dumb Palin is praising this idiot’s speech. I can’t decide which one is the most ignorant – Palin or Steele? What a pair !

End of apology and self-reflection? When did they even start? Unless it means they’re going to stop apologizing to Limpbaugh.
No, Steele. We only need you all to go away. “We’ll be here for you.” Thanks for the warning, Mr. Hero.
I hope he is not so deluded that he doesn’t know he is lying through his teeth. I don’t know why I watch any GOP member speak. I just saw the interview of Gingrich on the Daily Show and I kept wondering why Jon would have this liar on. Newt is one of the most onniving, slazy politicians I have ever witnessed. Yep, the GOP (Goofy Old Party) has definitely lost its mojo.
Just curious, but is the GOP rebranding effort failing so miserably that they’ve now turned their attention to rebranding the Democratic Party?
Wow. That was more painful than watching Jackass video clips, and much less intelligent or witty.
@ califpat What I have such a hard time getting is how she continues not to see the double standard. It’s okay for her to throw her kids well under the wheels of the bus, but not okay for anyone else to even mention them.
Those kids (and all kids) deserve much better parents than she has turned out to be. She’s living proof that the ability to breed does not a caring parent make.
# 13 Lee 323 “Anyhow….I don’t recall ever hearing any apologies from the GOP.”
The only apologies I’ve heard from the GOP were addressed to Rush Limbaugh for disagreeing with him. I haven’t heard any directed at the rest of us.
Mostly what I’ve heard lately is Cheney running around telling us how great the Bush administration and torture were.
It’s encouraging that 79% of Americans don’t agree with him, and that even among Republicans, more seem to think he’s hurting the party instead of helping it.
@Valley Independent: I add my condolences to jwa too. But you are so right. Gino is so self absorbed with advancing her political career that she does not care how she is affecting her children. For her career, her children are fair game to try to gain public sympathy. She does not care about her kids education or thir future. Some psychiatrist will make bundles on the Palin kids in the future. Her lies and hypocrisy are atrocious. She will step on her children, parents, Todd, friends and anyone else that she feels will elevate her and walk away from a chaotic aftermath in her naughty monkey boots.
i’ve been discussing it from time to time at work with the guy in the next room. he thinks the country will revert back to republicanism later — the pendulum will swing back. the dems will screw this up somehow, or we’ll be disappointed with their results. i’m thinking it isn’t happening this time. the GOP is pretty much done. toast.
@Clarksays:
I just think that most people have become more educated and have learned that the Repugs are all about inducing fear and people are not buying that nonsense anymore. People are tired of the same old status quo of the “Good Ole Boys” ( that includes female Repugs) that have bankrupted this country under the guise of protecting the constituients. People are paying attention and are demanding that our politicians do what is best for the people and not what is best for the Repugs’ purses for the first time and the Repugs do not get it. They think they can sing that same old song and people will trust them again. Not going to happen. Change has come and I for one am ecstatic.
jwa, my condolences. Even in my part of Wasilla I have reasonable neighbors who think at best she’s unqualified to be governor and a few who will go so far as to say out loud that she’s a an uneducated hypocritical narcissist with no qualms about throwing her children under the bus of her national political ambitions. it’s called ‘projection’.
and it doesn’t work.
i’ve been on GOP deathwatch for weeks now. i feel like i’m in a weird, twilight zone place. it’s blowing my mind, man!! i’m freaking out! almost three decades, most of my adult life public policy has been dominated by these greedy heartless bastards, and people have finally, finally figured life out, and kicked them to the curb. changing generations, changing demographics, i don’t know what. i have no idea why this is really happening, i kind of can’t believe it. WOW!!
I only got about half way through and just had to stop. I am so sick of listening to any of the republicans trying to show how they are so much smarter and have the right answer to all the problems. The real problem is, they don’t know what the question is, so they are clueless when it comes to any sort of solution.
Does this mean they’re all going to stop apologizing to Limpballs when they disagree with him?
Steele, Palin, Bachman, Limbaugh, Cheney and cant leave out Bush, Oh my! Clowns and court jesters of the worst order.
Man, Republicans really should stop taking all those Stupid Pills. They have become a complete and total embarrassment.
Isn’t it great? 😉
The longer the RNC sticks with Steele, the happier I am. Even scripted he comes off totally out of touch. He’s a dream come true.
Oh, I have such a mental picture in my head of a Steele Zany.
Zanies were what court jesters used to hold. It’s a stick with a jester’s head on it, usually a miniature of the actual jester.
I can just picture Michael Steele’s head on a stick with a fancy collar with bells and ribbons and one of those three pointed marde gras hats will bells all over it. With a big grin in his face.
I wonder if there would be a market for Steel Zanies? Would they be considered politically incorrect?
I could see Rush Zanies too.
I couldn’t finish watching. They need to find a more inspiring speech reader. I didn’t expect to agree with anything he said, but I didn’t know just how bad he was at reading a script.
The clip of Steele saying that the period of Republicans apologizing is “officially over” was especially odd…..like he’s some High Priest declaring the end of a penance that was not really his to either assign or lift.
Hmmmm……How does Mr. Steele make wishful thinking sound so sanctimonious. Must be a gift.
Anyhow….I don’t recall ever hearing any apologies from the GOP.
Even if the GOP want to try to forget that their failed policies have had lasting and fatal consequences, the majority of the country still remember acutely….and are living with/paying for those consequences.
Mr. Steele…..Good luck with your “Official Declaration of Apology Cessation by GOP Boobs and Criminals.”……. However, you might want to consider that there are actually no limits on political penance if the majority of the electorate is not satisfied.
Oops, he lost his ‘e,’ sorry.
Poor Michael Steel.
Yet more Jabberwocky from the desperately drowning GOP. All these statements are completely backwards. But if you substitute the word “Republicans” every time he says “Democrats”, and the name G.W. Bush whenever he says Obama, most of the statements are then actually true. It’s so sad that the only tool the Republicans have at their disposal anymore is spewing this revisionist history and resorting to blatantly telling their followers what they should think (and whom they should hate). They pander to the lowest common denominator. Is it any wonder that they don’t value education funding?
He used every old tired line over and over, using none of his own words. It was like listening to the same joke 10 times. AND, he still didn’t tell us what the brand new plan is. Geesh!
I live in Canada, born here, parents born in U.K. and Czech Republic

You know, it’s heartening for me to read those polls, but my reality is that I’m living where those 21% comprise 98% of my neighbors. Talk about the belly of the beast….
I REALLY hope the polls are right and I envy those of you who live in an area where you can actually have an honest conversation without your neighbors thinking you are a terrorist-loving, socialist, expletive, blankety blank.
Michael Steele is pretty much a big drag on anything. Dare I say, a `no-mind`.
How can the leader of a political party use a noun as an adjective? I guess his party is the Republic party.
