Bird of the Week – Orange-crowned Warbler
The Orange-crowned Warbler isn’t the flashiest bird in the boreal forest.
The signature “orange crown” isn’t usually even visible, unless the male is defending territory. Look for the yellow undertail feathers and the short, dark eye line in an otherwise fairly drab bird.
Camera geek stuff: f8, 1/200, ISO800

I’ve seen this little guy AND got to see the orange crown once. I had no idea there was a meaning behind it. Thanks WC. I love your birds, your eye, and your photography skills!
I swear we have an..almost ‘resident’ flock of about 35 to 45..here in south Lane County. So joyfull..alert..swinging through the air..on only their songs..their wings..a misty blur. Love em..which ever they are.
The willow tree outside my picture window seems to attract birds, and one spring day I was lucky enough to catch an orange-crowned warbler trying to attract a little female. He was doing this cute sort of “Hey, baby! Hey, baby!” bob, and the orange crown feathers were erect and looked, indeed, like a tiny orange crown, even more conspicuous when the sunlight shone through them.
Yeah but,did he score? I could use some tips on how to attract females. 🙂
Well, they flew off together…
Sweet birdie!
