Bird of the Week – American Robin
Even birders get tired of shorebirds. Let’s switch to thrushes. And by far the most common and the largest thrush in North America is the American Robin.
WC has seen American Robins on the north side of the Brooks Range, in Nome, in the Yukon Delta, in Valdez and in Hyder, as well as all points in between. It’s also a species that adapts well to human-altered terrain. This fellow is showing feather wear; he’s likely about to molt into fresh chest feathers. The Robin’s song is one of WC’s favorite signs of spring.

An American Robin joined the Good Bird Breakfast Club at Zyxomma’s place last year. I don’t know how I missed this post!
Sitka Mountain Ash berries are almost gone here. Lots of fun to watch the birds and squirrels gather them . 🙂
Good to have you out and about again. 🙂
Wish the &^%$#$ing bears were not out and about.. Another month and maybe they will be heading for hibernation. Right now they are out and about looking for last snackies…
Please don’t tell them where to find me and then draw them a map. 🙂
These bears don’t need a map. They use the “Locate Mike” app on their iPhone6.
You can tell all bears I’m in the local Sutherland, iowa phonebook. My address is in there too, still yet.Ask them to wipe their paws before they bust in here and eat me.please and thank you,Slipstream. 🙂

Something’s missing from this picture. I’m not sure what it is.
Robins,Orioles,Killdeer and Barn Swallows all hit the road South already. Getting lonely in iowa.
I saw a lil hummingbird about 10 days ago. Lil booger should have been gone around the 3rd week of August… hope it didn’t get fooled and stay too long.
Lunar eclipse was above and beyond fantastic tonight. Hope you guys got to see it.
Sometimes I forget how pretty robins are because we have them around for so much of the year. I’ve also seen dozens of bluebirds on the leeward side of a dam in February when out riding with friends. Naturally, I didn’t have either a cell phone to snap a photo that day, or a REAL camera.
