Bird of the Week – Varied Thrush
The sad, burry song of the Varied Thrush haunts the western Boreal forest.
You will hear this species more often than you see it, but its dramatic orange and black plumage make it distinctive. It’s slightly smaller than a Robin, with a similar orange breast, but the black mask and “necklace” make it impossible to confuse the two. Varied Thrush prefer mature spruce forests; they are a species of concern because of habitat loss.
Camera geek stuff: f5.7, 1/250, ISO250

Alcoholic of the House John Boner refuses to allow the CDC to study guns and gun violence and this has gone on for 10 years. Boner says guns are not a disease. Alcoholism is and so is Orange Speakers.NRA must lobby hard so they won’t have to face criticism about gun owners and violence.
WC-you outdone yourself this time. That is one beeyooteafull bird,at least as far as color scheme goes. You get extra points because it makes Ms Pi happy.

mikey- I hope you can hear this. This is what I hear every morning during spring and summer. I love it.
Lordy I heard all sorts of stuff. Sounded like someone imitating someone breaking wind and then it sounded like hearing someone dial a rotary dial phone while you are on the line. Heard a crow, too,I think? My speakers have feedback, Need new ones.:)
😀
You did hear a crow in the background.
The other stuff? Not so much …
Did any of my friends in Alaska catch the lunar eclipse/blood moon? Asks i the guy from the state with the shortest name that starts with i. Me sillies!
It looks SO much like the American Robin, it’s easy to tell they’re related closey. Lovely.
Zyx — don’t tell WC, because he hasn’t figured it out yet.
This is actually an American Robin — seen in its Halloween costume.
😀
i love this bird! I love it’s song and the relatively few sightings are each special.
I live on the edge of town -where it meets the Tongass. These birds make up a big piece of all that is wonderful about being where I am
