Sarah Palin on the Today Show…If We Must.

Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News, World News, and News about the Economy

Where to begin with the Sarah Palin interview on the Today Show with Matt Lauer…

After a brief discussion of the gas line, the topic changed.

Lauer: Can we talk about some of the other ways you’ve been in the news lately, and you know about this. There’s been this feud this week with Late Show

Palin: (interrupting) If we must

Lauer: I know…. But there’s been a feud this week with David Letterman about some comment he made…

They go on to discuss the issue. Then at 3:37 in the interview, something interesting happened. Palin looks down at her Blackberry that she is holding in her hand.

Palin: Let me read to you something that I received in the middle of the night, and email I received from somebody who’s not a (dismissive hand wave) known feminist, not someone who is an activist, but this I think speaks to the issue.

A couple things struck me about these two bits of the interview.   If we are led to believe by Palin that she really doesn’t want to talk about Letterman….that she’d much rather be talking about the gas line, and only talks about Letterman “if we must,” then why does she have a Blackberry in her lap all set up with an email on the screen ready to be read aloud talking about….Letterman?

The other thing I noticed was the “hand waving” that happened when she said the word “feminist.” Odd to wave away the word “feminist” and suggest that if the comment had come from a “feminist” or an “activist” it would somehow not have been credible, especially when the topic of your outrage is the treatment of women.

And in another lesson on how you can be right in principle (yes, the joke was extremely tasteless and inappropriate) and still totally blow it (yes, the Palins now look even worse than Letterman), here’s how she reacted when asked about the statement issued by spokeswoman Meg Stapleton:

Lauer: (reading) “The Palin’s have no intention of providing a ratings boost for David Letterman by appearing on his show. Plus, it would be wise to keep Willow away from David Letterman.” I’d like you to explain what that meant. Are you suggesting that David Letterman can’t be trusted around a 14-year old girl?

Palin: Hey, take it however you want to take it…

So if we want to take it that she thinks David Letterman is a pedophile, that’s OK?  Lauer gets this.

Lauer:  But is that not, in fact, in bad taste also governor if you’re…if you’re suggesting that a 62-year old man can’t be trusted…

Palin: It’s not in bad taste.  It’s not in bad taste.

(pause)

Palin:  Hey, maybe he couldn’t be trusted because Willow’s has had enough of this type of comments.  Maybe Willow would want to…uh….uh…uh..react to him in a way that..uh…would catch him off guard.  That’s one way to interpret such a comment.

So wouldn’t that actually mean that Willow couldn’t be trusted?  (head starting to hurt)

The problem is…  Here’s the problem, Matt.  It’s the double standard that’s been applied here.  One, let’s talk politically the double standard here.  First, remember in the campaign, Barack Obama said “Family’s off limits.  You don’t talk about my family….and….”the candidate who must be obeyed”….everybody adhered to that, and they did leave his family alone, and they haven’t done that on the other side of the ticket, and it has continued to this day.  So that’s a political double standard.

Just for clarity, I looked up Obama’s quote during the campaign about families being off-limits so we can examine this double standard.  Here it is:

I have heard some of the news on this and so let me be as clear as possible. I have said before and I will repeat again, I think people’s families are off limits, and people’s children are especially off limits. This shouldn’t be part of our politics, it has no relevance to governor Palin’s performance as a governor or her potential performance as a vice president. And so I would strongly urge people to back off these kinds of stories. You know my mother had me when she was 18. And how family deals with issues and teenage children that shouldn’t be the topic of our politics and I hope that anybody who is supporting me understands that is off limits.

Now that we’ve cleared that up, what if someone had asked David Letterman if in that joke he meant to insinuate that Willow Palin has promiscuous sex, and he had said, “Hey, take it however you want to take it.”

You know…since we’re talking about double standards.

I’ve read many times comments from people who do not think Willow was present at the ballgame, afterall.

While this may seem like a small point, imo, it is actually important because it would mean Palin LIED on t.v. when she said Willow was with her at the game.

Has anyone seen photos of Palin at the game? Do any of those photos include Willow. I remember seeing Willow in some photos/video from a rally that Sarah spoke at, but how about the game?

I’m inclined to believe she was there because Palin attended with Giuliani and his wife. And, if Willow was absent, and Rudy and wife are keeping quiet, that would make them Accessories To this Fraud.

Marinate on that for a few minutes.

    Where is John McCain’s apology???????????????

Tell him Chelsea Clinton should have an apology from him.

“Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because her father is Janet Reno.” John McCain, Palin’s running mate. Should McCain apologize to every young woman in America?

  3. Karen says:

One thing I find funny about SP’s response is where she claims David Letterman took several days to apologize…making it seem like he needed 72 hours to come up with a retort. Remember back to the awful Katie Couric interview, when Palin could not name a book or newspaper she reads regulary or when she could not think of another Supreme Court decision…then lo and behold weeks or months later she comews up with the answers! Hypocrite much?

Republicans are always trying to play the victim. They are such hypocrites. The childeren of democrats have been the butt of many jokes. When Chelsea Clinton was a still a child, Rush Limbaugh called her the “family dog.” And John McCain’s stupid daughter purposely leaves out her father’s joke about Janet Reno and Chelsea Clinton: “Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because Janet Reno’s her father.” There’s an old video on YouTube showing one of John McCain’s temper tantrums when he went postal on this woman years ago, and was cussing at her, and he called her a “wh*re” or something, and he stormed out. And Barack Obama defended Palin during the campaign, but she and the republicans have no class, and refuse to aknowledge it.

I knew they were going to drag President Obama into this. This is not really about what David Letterman said, about Bristol Palin, whom is 18 years old. It’s about Barack Obama. Palin has been whining about the so-called “double-standard” for months. She’s a jealous, sore loser. The republicans are trying to distract people from the issues. They think they are going to sink Barack Obama by complaining about the media? I think it’s a race issue. I think they are implying that The Obamas are getting some kind of “media affirmative action.” (Then why are they so hard on Michael Steele?) They pulled the affirmative action thing against Barack Obama during the campaign (about his education, I think), and NOW they are going after Sonya Sotomayor for a comment she made about affirmative action years, ago. There’s a double-standard that Palin has never been taken to task for her nasty behavior during the campaign. According to republicans it is not O.K. to attack young girls (young caucasean girls) but it’s O.K. for Sarah Palin and the rest of the republican party to attack everyone else with their hate speech?

They can keep on dragging this on, if they want to. If they are not careful, it may appear that they are “tasteless” for esculating it, and now bringing yet more children into it, (the Obama girls) whom are still minors. It may appear that the Obama children are now under attack. The republicans could have simply said “if it were the child of a democrat,” but instead they actually singled-out the Obama children, which is quite telling. If the Obama children do come under attack, the Obamas will keep their cool, and they will handle the situation with dignity. Unlike the Palins. This is not Barack Obama’s fault. He had nothing to do with it. They are trying to tie this to Barack Obama, and it won’t work.
    ———————————————-
All of this crap is only because half of the President is Black. And every day his African name is in their faces.

    No other reason.

Then Republicans whining and criticizing the most are the biggest racists. It’s a mathematical certainty.

  7. EyeOnYou says:

    Terpsichore~
I happen to agree with everything you have said, but would also like to add the point that she deliberately attempts to justify her actions by using language that incites people to what I call “rage for a cause”. The “Rape” joke, “statutory rape”, connecting this to the low self esteem of young girls, etc.., is all done deliberately to sway people into accepting her version of things over the actual facts. She did the same thing in the campaign. I believe this comes from her very different religious beliefs/background.

  8. Terpsichore says:

Um, and I wonder just how much Matt Lauer liked being called ‘naive’ by a sitting governor? In fact, she also insulted me or anyone else who happenes to believe that DL was referring to Bristol when he made the joke and that that part of his apology was sincere.

And she not only intimated that Letterman a pedophile, she flat out called him a liar when he said he was referring to Bristol and not Willow.

Yep, I really wanna vote for that for a public official – someone who deals with conflict by denegrating and mischaracterizing the people and issues involved. Yep, really exhibiting those presidential diplomatic skills there.

Yeah, that’s what we need in the White House – someone who’ll make glaciers out of ice cubes. I dread to think how she’d handle really large, complicated problems like relations with Israelis and Palestinians, Afghans and Pakistanis, N. Koreans and Chinese.

I don’t think anyone’s buying the “I won’t boost your show’s ratings by being a guest on it” tack though. And even if she did take that stand, one has to wonder: is she going to manufacture excuses to avoid having to sit down and be interviewed by Brian Williams, George Stephanopolous, Bob Scheiffer, David Gregory, Conan O’Brian (Jay Leno? His program may not be the same kind of platform), Oprah, Barbara Walters … or a dozen other names I’m forgetting. The current sitting president went on ALL these shows, and John McCain has been on them for years including during his previously unsuccessful bids to become the Republican nominee for Pres. It’s a part of campaigning that cannot be ignored by a serious candidate for a high public office.

In a nutshell, if Sarah Palin can’t face David Letterman, or any of the people on this list, why on earth would anyone want her for President?

  9. karen says:

I’m fairly certain that Bristol was not at this hockey game since she was pregnant and being kept in seclusion. Willow and Piper, however, were both in attendence and paraded out onto the ice.

  11. CG says:

If one is born in 1994, one will be 15 in 2009. If she was born in January, Willow is 15 and 6 months. If she was born in July, she’s two weeks away from being 15; thus, still 14 and Sarah knows how old her kid is.

    Cathy Baldwin-Johnson’s medical report says: “1989, 1990, 1994, and 2000…”
So, today, Track is 20, Bristol will be 19 in October, Willow is almost 15, Piper is 9 or will be in the next 6 months.

  14. MadCityKaren says:

Something that has kind of bothered me about this clip (mostly in a marginal kind of way considering that the source of the quote had come from the Palins) begins at 3:05 in the clip. Matt reads a quote from her statement: “A joke like this a contributes to the atrociously high rate of sexual exploitation of minors by older men who use and abuse others” … and then Matt asks her, “but can you really connect the dots to criminal activity the way you did in that statement”?

While she claims to “connect the dots to a degrading statement made about young women and that does contribute to some acceptance of abuse of young women” and then segued off to the email that she’d received in the middle of the night.

I don’t know, but this sounds like her opinion to me. And I’m fine with people having opinions, even GINO (although I’d rather not hear her opinion either). I guess that I kind of expected her to back up her opinion with some cold hard facts. Especially when she is inferring that an edgy joke ‘contributes’ to crime.

Hope that she shuts her yap soon.

The same as when she was running for VP she never compared herself to Joe Biden who was on her same lateral job level. It seemed to me McCain should have been the only one compared to Obama, since they were running for the same position. But no, habitual line crosser, really wanted the position as her actions showed.

  21. Zack says:

Oh, yeah. And what’s worse, the republicans may have declared “hunting season” on the Obama girls, whom the Obamas have been very protective of. Sarah Palin dragged her kids everywhere, and she intentionally put them in the media spotlight, and made Bristol Palin’s pregnancy a campaign issue, which of course, leaves them open to public scrutiny. The righties attacking the children of a popular president? This could get interesting, maybe.

Remember the story that Sarah told during the campaign, about how she talked to her family about her candidacy? As she told the story, she presented the idea and they all said “Go for it, Mom!”

In her telling, there wasn’t an ounce of concern about how it would affect the family.

I don’t know if her telling is true – knowing her, it probably wasn’t – but it’s revealing that in her own mind, there was never any issue of concern for how her daughters would be exposed to the media. There was never any concern for her daughters’ feelings at all. It was all about her.

  33. mlaiuppa says:

Palin has finally figured out that Obama cannot fire Letterman.

Some senator or congressman has now contacted the president of CBS and asked him to fire Letterman.

    Right. Like that’s gonna happen.

Palin picked the wrong public figure to crucify to prove her power and promote her political agenda. Letterman can take her down with a wave of his finger. And he will. Just like John McCain. He’ll be nice. He’ll be polite. He’ll never mention the children again. He may not even mention her by name, only referring to the Governor of Alaska. But he won’t quite until she yells Uncle. And maybe not even then. Look what he did to John McCain who eventually came on his show and apologized to him.

Now some may say…what does she have to apologize for? Well, Letterman apologized for some bad jokes. She has subsequently turned up the volume on her outrage to accusing him of being a pedophile, sexual pervert, deviant, etc. And if she’s not careful, she’ll find herself in court defending herself against slander. And the legal bills will be a lot more than what she’s facing in Alaska. And Letterman can take her. He has a LOT more money and better lawyers.

Funny how none of this came up when Leno, Conan or SNL made equally tasteless jokes.

I also have to wonder if the reason she keeps bringing up “statutory rape” (Which is concentual with a minor) is that she’s planning on rewriting Bristol’s history with Levi and accusing him of statutory rape of Bristol. Ya think?

  34. GA Peach a/k/a Lance the Boil aka Crust Scramble says:

I think the Letterman thing is personal for sarah because of the way Dave mocked McCain and his whole “the economy is cratering” debacle. Evidenced by the following:

“Sarah Palin is going to drop the first puck at the Philadelphia Flyers’ hockey game. Then Palin will spend the rest of the game trying to keep the hockey players out of her daughter’s penalty box.” –Conan O’Brien

“It’s true, John McCain’s running mate, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, has revealed that her 17-year-old daughter is pregnant. Palin said, ‘We should never have introduced her to John Edwards.’” –Conan O’Brien

“Governor Palin announced over the weekend that her 17-year-old unmarried daughter is five months pregnant. Oh, boy, you thought John Edwards was in trouble before, now he’s really done it!” –Jay Leno

And we’ve all seen how vicious she can be when she takes something personally.

  35. Jim Shorts says:

David Letterman made a joke on his show about Sarah Palin’s daughter getting knocked up by Alex Rodriguez during her recent outing to a baseball game.

Palin said it was an insult, not just to her daughter, but to horny girls everywhere.

Letterman later apologized, to A-Rod. “I’m sorry Alex. I should never told a joke that was such an egregious insult to your taste in women.”

  36. Judy5cents says:

Thank you for filling me in on what SP said. I happened to be watching the Today Show when Matt Lauer introduced her and I just couldn’t bring myself to listen to anything past “Hello, Matt” and I quickly changed channels. You are a brave soul and I salute you.

It seems to me that Sarah Palin doesn’t realize that the children of politicians have always been fair game, especially when they’re teen agers or young adults. Remember all the horrible jokes Rush Limbaugh made about Chelsea Clinton, who was all of twelve years old at the time? And the firestorm of criticism the Bush twins brought down on themselves when they went out drinking on fake IDs? And don’t forget he questions about Ron Reagan’s sexual orientation.

For me, the fact Sarah Palin didn’t hesitate to accept the VP spot when it was offered, shows a huge lack of concern for her children. If my teen-aged daughter was pregnant, I would want to protect her privacy, not deliver her up to the media wolves, which is exactly what happened when SP said “I’d love to run for vice president.” As long as she continues to seek the limelight, her children are targets for late night comedians.

It’s obvious that Palin has something to hide….otherwise, why would she so viciously attack Letterman for a joke? The best thing she could have done was to ignore it, but then that’s not Sarah’s m o. She is the one that has exposed her children to the media; she should have made them stay in Alaska and take lessons in how to dress and how to avoid pregnancy.

I’ve been re-playing all the recent hullabaloo in my head. I have experience (in several ways) with sexually exploited and abused children and women. There is something very sad and sick in the P family. I believe this Letterman issue has allowed subconscious truths to come peeking out as often happens. And I keep seeing Joan Crawford in Mommy Dearest superimposed over SPs face. I think some very sad info will eventually come out about this family. I am so sorry for the children. It takes a great deal of will to make one’s way out of such a background. I wish the children (and Bristol) all the support possible. I see a SP meltdown coming in the future.

I stumbled upon some more news about the Palin/Lettermen fued yesterday. This article explores Palin’s political actions/lack of action in regard to under-funding public safety. House Finance Co-Chair Mike Hawker, R-Alaska has a few things to say about Palin. Maybe this has already been posted…sorry if this is a repeat but I found this article very insightful and just had to share.

I can’t believe Palin can even suggest that Lettermen appologize to ALL women when it seems she should be appologizing to all the women and families of Alaska for her lack of public safety funding to help victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence, especially in rural AK!

    http://www.ktva.com/ci_12581858

…”On NBC’s Today Show Palin said, “I would like to see him (Letterman) apologize to young women across the country for contributing to that thread that runs through our culture that makes it sound like it’s OK, accepted and funny to talk about statutory rape. It’s not cool. It’s not funny.”

One powerful state lawmaker, however, says Palin is doing a bad job funding sexual exploitation solutions.

House Finance Co-Chair Mike Hawker, R-Alaska, is highlighting the fact Alaska has the nation’s highest domestic violence and sexual assault rates, and says the governor is under-funding public safety.

Hawker’s accusations sound very similar to those made during Troopergate. He says Palin’s bad family-Public Safety Department relationship is playing out with the governor poorly funding that department, including efforts to fight sexual assault…..”

Some of us have seen decades of secrets where young children were destroyed by old men in churches, no one could speak of it because it is a taboo subject. The result are that children continue to be abused. Those children should not be beneath anyone.

There are facts about the area where the Palins are from. Comedy is a way some taboo subjects are broached and perhaps discussions can lead to release. Keeping secrets is not the answer. Getting to the truth is not all pleasant.

For whatever reason the Palins brought up the subject of rape, statutory rape and perversion. It is legit and necessary to question their over the top behavior. Alaska has the most shameful statistics, which means their children are hurting and need attention. The Palins and their Dr. Cathy need to address this in a direct manner. There needs to be budget and legislative changes for these children. It seems a small insignificant thing about Willow’s age, but it is necessary to clear up. If for no other reason but to correct the historical documents.

To stretch this issue as far as she is doing makes her, and the state she represents, look stupid. I am so embarassed by her actions.

Right now, my sympathy lies with Letterman because he is being used by Palin for her personal agenda of staying in the public eye. The issue has nothing to do with her outrage over the joke but more of getting the most mileage and publicity out of the situation.

…now that folks are remembering what Craig Ferguson, Conan O’Brien, Bill Maher (who I understand annihilated Palin tonight in his monologue), Jay Leno also joked about — after Sarah Palin subjected Bristol Palin to the RNC “pageant walk” last fall “about 5 months pregnant”…

Now they’re all doing handsprings about Palin’s “major victory” now concerning the Exxon/AGIA merge — which is really “domestic abuse” of ordinary Alaskans who are still suffering from Exxon’s spill years ago and the paltry settlement from G.W.Bush’s Supreme Court that Palin herself criticized.

“In an interview with Fox News, Gov. Sarah Palin’s daughter, 18-year-old Bristol Palin — remember Bristol Palin, who had the baby? Well, she talked in the interview. She said, ‘A year ago, I never would have thought I would become a mom or that my mom was going to be chosen to be a vice presidential candidate.’ Oddly enough, both things happened because some guy failed to take the proper precautions.” –Jay Leno

Of our need as a society to be ever on guard against the “star-belly Sneetches” mentality that has produced genocide throughout history.

Relevant point? Oh, even though it sounds “nice,” really the archness and distancing (those poor poor Jews!) of her tweet is rooted in the same divisive mentality that we see in full flower in her approach to Emmoniak, her own legislature, McCain staffers, Wooten, bloggers, Levi, and now David Letterman. I agree that it is not necessarily a trivial matter that Willow’s age (14 or 15) is in question.

Seems to be a Palin pattern to obsfucate (sp?) facts. Particularly facts pertaining to birth dates!

  97. sauerkraut says:

That would make her 14, not 15, although her birthday is soon approaching.

  98. Priceless says:

Visitor. That would make her just 15. My daughter was born in 95. She’s turning 14 this fall.

  99. Visitor says:

    BIRTHS

  100. Jim says:

Polly, most of the ones I have known don’t get most any other brand of humor, either. Another reason I don’t generally hang out with righties. Can’t call them conservative; too radical for that…

  101. Polly says:

London Bridges Says: Maybe Todd is attempting to make a true declarative statement? His daughter was raped at age 14?

People do have a propensity to confess. I think the Palins are a strange and symbiotic group. Dr. Baldwin-Johnson must clarify the historial document that she wrote. I believe she gave a different birth code for Willow. Why would Sarah Palin not be on top of correct historical documentation? That reflects on her image. She is showing that she is hiding something. This whole Texas deal is very questionable. Not entirely, she is loving the distraction from her energy trip and the WWW confederation sideshow of Palin v Letterman. Not much attention on what she is up to. Faux outrage and uber scorched earth to destroy the “evil” David Letterman and save the damsel. She sees Todd as a hero because he stood up for one of their offsprings against “rape” joke guy on the TV. Dave will like his son growing up and reading about his Dad’s career. She has deeply injured the Letterman family. She is drunk on power and now we can see her incinerate. She may be only smoldering now, but just wait.

  105. SecretShopper says:

    I beg to differ, sauerkraut.

    1. Why would a family repeatedly state their child’s age incorrectly?? Perhaps to lie to garner sympathy, to make her appear younger than she really is? Whether or not you think it’s irrelevant, it’s just plain stupid.

    2. Worth looking into: is sex “legal” at 15 in some states?

I completely understand Letterman’s joke was not about Willow. Palin has made this into an issue by bringing up Willow.

I agree, I didn’t find the joke insulting. Let’s just hope the Palins expressed “outrage” at Levi for actually knocking up Bristol.

  106. GA Peach a/k/a Lance the Boil aka Crust Scramble says:

I’d so love to be a fly on the McCain wall when they sit down to dinner.

  107. sauerkraut says:

It doesn’t matter if Willow is 14 or 15… Letterman’s joke was not about Willow. Let’s not justify her claims by nitpicking Willow’s age. But let’s hammer her for her moronic self-aggrandizing response to a perfectly good, if borderline, joke. Frankly, when I first heard it, I thought it was about the knocked-up Bristol. That being the case, Willow’s actual age is irrelevant.

  108. SecretShopper says:

Willow is 15, not 14 as reported. She was born Jan ’94.

Is there a reason the Palins are repeatedly claiming Willow to be 14, not 15???

Strange, very strange. I just don’t see how a family could incorrectly state their child’s birthday on numerous occasions, once perhaps, but not repeatedly.

  109. honestyinGov says:

Anybody that watches Bill Maher, he covered the Palin/Letterman blow up. Started off the show right up front with it. Can’t remember the specific lines… but you can find the clips. He also covered the Carrie Prejean firing.

Onto the show. Chris Mathews is a guest tonight.

From what I saw, no one suggested that anyone had already been “abused.” What I understood SP’s beef to be was that it was suggestive, and about her underage daughter. When I saw it, I understood at the time, that it was Bristol (still very poor taste), and even then, no one was suggesting abuse of any kind. Well, except SP, who had/has her own (hog-the-limelight) reasons.

I’ve no problem with continuing to whack GINO over the head with her hypocritical accusation of a national figure of paedophilia — but he’s not only an adult, he’s really, really capable of protecting himself. His self-worth isn’t likely to be damaged.

I don’t believe Willow was at the game, and I’ve never heard Palin say that she was. Wednesday when she was trying to poopoo Dave’s “excuse” that he was joking about Bristol, she said everyone knows “it was Willow at the photo op with Giuliani.” In her typical dishonest fashion, she has just let it go on that she left people believing she was referring to the game, when in fact I don’t believe she was. If she had been, there would have been no reason to explicitly state “… at the photo op …” Her being a lingual nightmare has its advantages – people learn not to listen too closely.

I think GINO sexualizes herself by dressing inappropriately at State functions smears on her makeup like a trollop, red “ho” shoes, she parades her pregnant daughter on the stage for all to see during the campaign, Bristol is now the poster child for unwed teen motherhood then parades her for a campaign of “abstinence” with a company that promotes its products with a ads like this:

  156. CCH says:

I was over at ADN going back and forth with the Palinbots about Willow’s age.

Sarah said this morning on the Today Show, my “14 year old” daughter. This age (14) has been kicked around all week. In checking, I remembered an old People Mag. from last Sept. that said she was 14. Then, WiKiAnswera.com, shows her as being born on Jan. 21, 1994. In Dr. CBJ’s letter to the RNC,
she stated SP had one birth in 1994 which I would assume would be Willow.

The Palinbots were trying to say she was 13 during the campaign last Fall.
They had a link to a press release from the Gov.’s office that was made after Trig was born (4-18-2008), that showed Willow’s age as 13.

If she was born on Jan. 21, 1994, she’s 15…right? The Wiki site shows her being born in 1995 with no month or day.

    Anyone know the truth here?

And I wish Lauer would have turned her pedophile comments against her, in terms of if she is so concerned about young women (saying Letterman should apologize to all of them) what has she down in her capacity as governor to help bring down the rate of sexual assault in Alaska, the highest per capita in the country. I just would have liked to see her skate out of that one. By her bringing up rape, violence against women, perversion, etc, I think she has opened herself up to scrutiny over her inactions regarding the domestic violence and sexual assault rates in Alaska.

But let’s be clear about something: just this past week (I think) Palin said, quite clearly, “screw political correctness.” Well then. Palin is no feminist. Her anti-choice agenda and sharp elbows make that abundantly clear. Although I think she was referring to issues of race and not gender when she put her raw and bigoted views out there for the world to chew on, she only revealed her ignorance and self-centeredness by using feminist theory to bludgeon Letterman. I continue to be appauled by her arrogance. She fails to see how women who abhor misogyny have worked so hard to protect her right to be a total and complete intellectual asshole regardless of her gender. Personally, I will defend her ability to be a shallow minded jerk in politics regardless of her reproductive abilities. So, if she wants to play that way, I urge EVERYONE to start leveling the playing field for her. Cut the jokes about her appearance, her toes, her hair, her clothes. Everything. Don’t give her any reason to call upon feminists to defend her. Because I will. Please, I beg you, only go after her mental and intellectual abilities. If you do that, you will sink her. I promise.

I think Letterman was extremely inappropriate but I do not see how it has anything to do with politics. The Gov. is once again using a ‘crisis’ to avoid accountability on questions related to her running again, the recent deal with Exxon, stimulus monies, & anything else related to her job as Gov. I wish Letterman had not said what he did for many reasons, but primarily because it has given Palin yet another week of free media to spew her ridiculous self-centered banter.

I took the liberty of sending the Palin’s a list of places on the net, where they can purchase decent clothes for their children, as this must be a huge problem in AK. I also added that if she does not want her children to be targets, she should not paint the bullseye on their fronts and backs.

No matter what the groups are doing (NOW), individuals are feeling indignant and very worried that she could be such a poor mother for dragging this out – and for Willow becoming a very recognizable name with nasty associations. 187. Marnie says:

“On the “Today” show from Texas on Friday morning, where the governor is promoting a gas pipeline for her state, she characterized Mr. Letterman’s remarks as a reference to “statutory rape” and called it a sad commentary about today’s culture that this sort of discussion would be considered comedy. ”

Interesting that Palin herself refers to the fictional sex act between Letterman and her 14 year old as statutory rape. That would infer that the act was consensual on the part of both parties. It’s the ages of the two parties that would make it “statutory.”
If the 14 year old did not consent and the act was forced on her, it would be plain old rape.
So Sarah just inferred that her 14 year old is an easy lay.

Sarah, you are so stupid you make my skin hurt.

Second, she pimped her family to us incessantly. Obama did not.
Third, Obama is not to blame for people dishing her family, Obama did not.
Fourth, she didn’t say a word and still hasn’t when SNL did a whole skit about
daughters and incest with their father.
Fifth, by Sarah’s standards Bristol was statutorily raped, impregnated (twice?), and Sarah supported this whole scenario and STILL does.
Sixth, she better be filing statutory rape charges against Willow’s boyfriend who she is most likely sleeping with if she follows in her Mom’s and Sister’s footsteps.

If anyone knows definitvely about Babygate, now is the time to make it known so that this sympathy fit being bought by so many in the lower 48 will know the extent of her true duplicity.

If Sarah Palin is the new face of Women’s Rights, I hope that she understands that would include women’s reproductive rights, and women’s right to control their own reproductive choices. It is also time for her to denounce those in her party who have made sexist remarks, including McCain, O’Reilly, Limbaugh, et al. While she is at it, denounce beauty pageants, the Candies exploitation of sexy preteens, using Bristol for political gain. And while we are at it, why single out women for special rights? Aren’t all people asking for the same rights, as shown in Anchorage’s recent hearings about equal rights in housing and jobs for ALL people, regardless of sexual orientation. Finally, Sarah can stand up for racial, sexual and all other forms of equality! What a spokesperson!

When Obama said families are off limits, he explained very carefully that it wasn’t just the Obama family, it was ALL families involved.

McCain soon mimicked this in his own call for families to be left out.

And then Sarah paraded her kids across every stage she could.

MONROE, Michigan (CNN) — Sen. Barack Obama said firmly that families are off-limits in the campaign for president, reacting to news that GOP running mate Sarah Palin’s 17-year-old daughter is pregnant.

“Let me be as clear as possible,” Obama said. “I think people’s families are off-limits, and people’s children are especially off-limits. This shouldn’t be part of our politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin’s performance as governor or her potential performance as a vice president.”

I am re-posting this from the Open Thread as it is timely….

Did Sarah just make a threat against Letterman? Or did Willow? Or was Sarah encouraging Willow to assault Letterman?

On the today show she said:

“Hey, take it however you want to take it,” she said. “It is a comment that came from the heart that Willow, no doubt, would want to stay away from David Letterman after he made such a comment. And you can interpret that however you want to interpret it.”

“Well is that not perhaps in bad taste also, governor?” Lauer asked.

“No, it’s not in bad taste,” she said. “Hey, maybe he couldn’t be trusted because Willow’s had enough of this type of comments and maybe Willow would want to react to him in a way that maybe would catch him off guard. That’s one way to interpret such a comment.”

You are voicing the turning of the tide. A real mother shudders at the thought of rape. You raise your children to protect themselves, you watch over them, your life is dedicated to not putting them in harms way and shielding them from unhealthy influences.

Palin, she conjured the episode of rape. She fueled the flames of imagination of her child being taken advantage of.

    Palin’s are INSANE.

We are exposed daily to true life horrific sick bastards raping children and here Palin, is creating a fiction, a long reach from a 5 second comment into a scenario of sexual assault. She is truly f’ed up, in the head.

  206. Basheert says:

I’m suspecting that down the road, Willow will fall victim to her mother’s craziness. Whether she has a couple of kids or not. And don’t forget who’s waiting in the wings – Piper! It doesn’t matter to SP who she harms with her generic dumbness.

She uses her kids as toys and fools. This is not mom material. This is an abusive woman pandering her kids to try and create publicity for herself.

Stay tuned and watch to see what she does next. Aside from the drugged baby question – which has never been answered.

All of this amounts to child abuse. You don’t have to hit a child to hurt or damage them. Look at Bristol and now Willow. Is there a prayer that she won’t turn to Piper next as some victimhood is needed?

Aside from being outright psychotic, she has exposed her children to the nasty side of the world, the one she inhabits.

But, seriously, I think this “situation” shows that the Palins have truly lost it. What sort of parents use their children as PR ammunition?
