Anchorage Assembly Meeting – Non-Discrimination Ordinance Testimony

You can stream the Assembly meeting live HERE.

More public testimony will be taken on the non-discrimination ordinance.

Chair Debbie Ossiander has stated that there are 250 people left to testify who signed up last week.  88 people were heard then.  Each person has approximately 3 minutes to speak, but people were reminded that all must be heard before discussion among Assembly members can begin.

My understanding is that testimony on the non-discrimination ordinance will begin at 7pm Alaska time (8pm Pacific/11pm Eastern)

Feel free to live blog the event in the comments.  I know many who enjoyed rereading your fabulous live blogging last time.

I will be Tweeting from the event.

UPDATE:  Here is a letter that Pastor Jerry Prevo sent out to his followers.  It answers the question I’ve been hearing from opponents of the ordinance who bat their eyes and say, “Why do they keep using the word ‘hate’ when they talk about us?”  This is why.

**Please forward this to other righteous citizens of Anchorage.**

Dear ABT Email Family,

FOR THE SAKE OF OUR CHILDREN, GRANDCHILDREN, RELIGIOUS FREEDOM, CHURCHES, CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS, WE MUST STOP THIS NEW ORDINANCE IN ANCHORAGE.HOMOSEXUALITY IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE MORAL LIFESTYLE.
IT IS DISEASED AND DEVIANT.HOMOSEXUALS ARE TRYING TO FORCE US TO APPROVE THEIR LIFESTYLE INSTEAD OF JUST ACCEPTING THEM. HOMOSEXUALS ARE NOT BEING DEPRIVED OF JOBS, PLACES TO LIVE OR LOANS. THEY HOLD HIGH POLITICAL OFFICES, WELL-PAYING CORPORATE POSITIONS, AND ARE, AS A WHOLE, IN A HIGHER INCOME BRACKET.

The liberals on the Anchorage Assembly are trying to pass an ordinance to give “special rights” to gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and of all things transgender perverts. Last week we surprised them with an overwhelming number of people there in opposition, but they do not believe we can sustain these numbers. They feel like we are a bunch of wimps when it comes to fighting for what is right. To make it even harder, they have scheduled, in addition to the Tuesday night meeting, as to make it even harder, they have scheduled, in addition to the Tuesday night meeting, a special Wednesday night meeting. I am calling off our regular church service Wednesday so we can overwhelm them again on Wednesday night. This is how important this issue is to defeat.
Below is some general information and BE SURE TO WEAR SOMETHING RED. (blue is their color) – Pastor Prevo

General Information: The public testimony concerning the proposed homosexual ordinance continues Tuesday and Wednesday nights. We need everyone to attend the Assembly meeting at the Lousacc Library. We need to fill up the Assembly Chambers with people wearing red shirts showing their opposition to the proposed ordinance. If you can arrive by 3 p.m., take a seat in the Assembly Chamber Hall. Bring something to eat or drink and a good book to read. Arriving early is important but coming when you can and being present, even outside, is just as important. We need to show the Assembly Members the voters of Anchorage will not tolerate this scourge.

    take away their effin’ tax exempt status if they want to be in politics…disgusting…

    Inconvenient infant : <—– :))

    It was my nephew I am standing up and walking out for. I went to the wall for him. He’ll never forget what is being done To him and For him. Hopefully, the bad memories will be replaced by the ones of me defending him and standing up to the “man” on his behalf. Hypocrisy and I do NOT get along. And I have just enough fire in me to make a stand and cause some damage, but stay clean myself. I am Ripley, hear me roar!

  4. womanwithsardinecan says:

    Thanks to all of you. I go to bed early so I didn’t even try to stay up for this. Just spent my first two hours of the morning reading your blow by blow. As somebody mentioned very early in this thread, you can sure see now how Palin got elected. The hateful, ignorant morons in Alaska outnumber the people with brains and tolerance. I’m truly sorry for you.

  5. the problem child says:

    Aw, (((((Ripley))))). That sucks, but good on you for standing up for (yourself? someone else?).

    I had to hit the hay after only an hour, but loved waking up to the liveblogging. (Is it still liveblogging if you are reading it after the fact?) Anyway, it sounds like it was quite a stressful experience for some.

    What we all need to remember is that by spewing their hatred, telling their transparent lies, and boasting about gay-bashing, they are making the case for the ordinance. Obviously, it is very much needed to protect people from the very real and blatant discrimination that it happening in Anchorage!

    I missed it last night, due to some personal turmoil here, but I just wanted to relay my deepest gratitude for people like all of you who are so supportive of others who may not be the same as you.

    Ripley – that’s just it, we are all the same – human. No two of us are exactly alike, not even twins, and that is why it is so important to support and accept each other. The way you are different is under attack now, but who is next?

  7. Ripley in CT says:

    I missed it last night, due to some personal turmoil here, but I just wanted to relay my deepest gratitude for people like all of you who are so supportive of others who may not be the same as you. I’m still reading through the comments and it might take me all day….That’s ok, because I walked out of work yesterday in protest of hypocrisy and injustice. So I have alllllll summer to read.

    Also, too, I’m thinking of changing my name to “Ripley, the scourge of CT”.

  8. EyeOnYou says:

    AKM and all who showed up, ……..THANK YOU

    All of you live bloggers…….Thank you and Excellent work! Well done indeed.

    OMIGOD what is with these FANATICS?

    THIS IS PALIN’S BASE!!! Her and Prevo should take their hate mongering on the road..LEAVE ALASKA.

    You have GOT to see the video!!!

    A crowd of 15 protesters upset with the late night comic held signs and occasionally shouted as they stood across the street from Letterman’s studio.

    But they were often hidden from view by the more than 35 members of the media there to cover the protest, and out-shouted by a few very vocal counter-protesters.

  21. akmuckraker says:

    Hi all.

    Again you amaze me! I was sitting listening to testimony, and tried to leave a comment from my Blackberry, but no luck. I did ready many of your comments as I sat there, though. You were all voices of sanity for the progressive corner of the room. I passed you around several times for comic relief, or verification of what we were thinking. I’m putting up some pictures shortly.

    Thanks for keeping me sane!

  22. Canadian Neighbour says:

    trish
    I watch KO and Rachel online as I don’t get MSNBC

  23. Canadian Neighbour says:

    bucfan,
    today they started at 5 AK time but dealt with other issues about land and stuff. Then they too about 30 min dinner break and started public speaking at 7 AK time. Agenda sort of looks the same but AKM will post later.

    To bed Mudpups!! That means you justafarmer!!

  24. ok…8pm est. I’ll miss Keith, Rachel. But that’s ok…will catch them on repeat.

    🙂

  25. justafarmer says:

    LOL CN! NIters!

  26. Canadian Neighbour says:

    I think tomorrow they go through a bundle of other things like they did today and then they had that dinner break and came back to public speaking. AKM will post tomorrow. I mean today!!!

  27. bucfan says:

    Testimony on Wednesday is at 4 pm alaska time, 5 pm pacific, 8 pm eastern, and 3 am Thursday morning Baghdad time

  28. justafarmer says:

    wow, just got reports from NWS…
    Two mobile homes blown off their foundations with trees and power lines down (that’s about five miles away from me). 60 mph winds, one-inch hail, 1.21 inches of rain in 30 minutes (that’s lots moe than my .75 inch in 35 minutes).
    Crap, I’m gonna be busy in the morning…off to bed for me…

  29. Canadian Neighbour says:

    I gotta blow this pop stand too!!

  34. Nan says:

    I’ll try to make it. Let’s hope my hand recover by then lol

  35. seattlefan says:

    Canadian Neighbour

    Thanks and LMAO!

    On a more serious note….I can’t believe there are people out there that are so full of hate and ignorance. If religion brings that on I’m glad I have no part of it.

    Did the Governor of AK have a stance on this issue or make a statement? Now that she is the new speaker of women’s issues, did she actually address this on behalf of gay women or men? I checked her Tweeter thingy and didn’t see anything.

    I’m finally out for the night. Work is looming tomorrow.

  36. I should be free around 4 tomorrow. will try to be here

  37. justafarmer says:

    is a four hour difference in eastern time zone land.
    At least I think it is…..3:35 am here now

  38. Canadian Neighbour says:

    Nan
    It’s 4 hours for EST
    Justafarmer should be putting coffee on shortly!!!

  39. Nan says:

    lol lexky
    At the moment, I don’t know if I’ll be there tomorrow or not. Depends partly on how much nap I can sneak in before then (besides the “night’s sleep” – hahahahaaaa)

    and on what time spouse goes to bed lol

  40. Kath the Scrappy from Seattle says:

    Opps, guess I’m not the one but very close hehehe.

    Still, I am SO GRATEFUL for all you Mudpups that ‘took one for the team’! Thank you! I’ve been reading EVERY post, like it was some soap opera of ignorance. Don’t think I could have managed to watch so many red shirted buffoons in one sitting (w/o losing my cookies). What a labor of love!

  41. mhrt says:

    congratulations justafarmer..

  42. lexky says:

    peace

  43. califpat says:

    4pm tomorrow huh? This has been so interesting that I think I will participate. Does anyone know how long it will last?

  44. Canadian Neighbour says:

    The quote of the day I liked was a twitter post by AKM about Ed Schultz:

    MudflatsQuote of the day from Ed Schultz: “If Sarah Palin is ever President of the United States… Winnipeg, here I come.”

  45. justafarmer says:

    AKM will have a cow when she sees this thread!

  46. Nan says:

    I think it’s a 3 hr difference for Central time vs Alaska time (what is that, anyway? CA is Pacific time…)

  47. bucfan says:

    I couldn’t watch the meeting tonight. I could have but then I would have to wake up tomorrow and realize how many morons are out on the road with me. I have read a lot of your posts. And it would be one thing if these people were giving well thought out views but most of what I see are fear, hate, fear, hate. And as for the guy who kept getting hit on by gay men, all you have to do is say no. It happened to me once years ago. At first the young lady I was with and I thought he was hitting on her. When we realized the truth, she burst out laughing and I told him I wasn;t interested. He apologized and LEFT. End of story. Nobody got beat up. And the worse part of this whole things are those kids in red being taught that great Christian virtue of hate.

  48. CrazyInAlaska says:

    @Nan
    You are right about my name. It came about when Palin was picked for VP. I was going nuts, and I work with hard core republicans, so I was really having issues!

  49. lexky says:

    nan
    it will be rough

  50. Nan says:

    Canadian Neighbour – you’re absolutely right! I didn’t realize it, but that was irresistable lol

  51. justafarmer says:

    yeppers, lexky. we’re back tomorrow! By my reckoning, the fun will start at 8 pm our time

  52. Nan says:

    lexky, I don’t know if I’ll survive another night of it.

    rofl

  53. Canadian Neighbour says:

    The fun part was you have to interject your own thoughts as there is no way you can only just type their drivel and hate

  54. Nan says:

    CrazyInAlaska, I think that after tonight, I can see where that screen name might have come from. “Interesting” residents you have up there!

    hang in there, ok? lol

    Nan

  55. justafarmer says:

    this has been way too much fun, it should be illegal!

  56. lexky says:

    are we doing this again tomorrow?

  57. Canadian Neighbour says:

    And somehow AKM managed to escape!!! and didn’t even tell us.

  58. CrazyInAlaska says:

    You guys are great! My support team! Thank you! You all keep me from pulling my hair out!!!

  59. lexky says:

    congrats justafarmer

  60. yaaaay justafarmer 🙂

  61. justafarmer says:

    sorry Lexky, but at least a Kentuckian got to be 1,000!

  62. Canadian Neighbour says:

    trish – I TOTALLY agree with you. I was given tickets to go see her. Gave them away. No thanks.

  63. Kath the Scrappy from Seattle says:

    Hmm, am I 1000?

  64. justafarmer says:

    YAY!!!!!
    I’m 1,000 and didn’t even try!!!!!!

  65. Nan says:

    lol at justafarmer
    crazy – I don’t think Letterman has seen the latest video

    the worst one? Oy. The one that made me the most irritated was probably the soccer mom type – so very busy, thought it was silly this was even coming up. She got a little OT (sorta). but she really wasn’t the “worst” (I have a “thing” against the self-proclaimed “entitled” – my bad)

    I think one of the saddest was the woman early on, so very sweet, so much against it, and so hurt that there was so much fractiousness abounding. She could have been Aunt Bea’s cousing or someting

  66. Canadian Neighbour says:

    Kathy: Palin is a “moron”

    I agree!

  68. justafarmer says:

    I don’t get network TV, so I don’t get to see Letterman except on the intertubes.

    @CN, yes, I think it starts up again tomorrow, but earlier. 4 pm Anchorage time?

  69. lexky says:

    i want to be 1000

  70. CrazyInAlaska says:

    @lexky
    You are right, he was a good one! How quickly I forget!

  71. califpat says:

    @CrazyinAlaska: You thought the last guy was nuts, there were nuts in that audience of every breed.

  72. Canadian Neighbour says:

    The red had punker — that was excellent!!
    He punked them and us

  73. almost there 🙂

  74. last guy…the one speaking for god

  75. Canadian Neighbour says:

    Justafarmer,
    I think I agree in that she didn’t go in and just the whole issue. Too much of what she said didn’t fly. Security wouldn’t do anything. Realllly

  76. califpat says:

    Actually, this has really been a learning experience for me because I was not aware of the extent that people were more willing to spew hate and intolerance. I knew that they existed but not at the level that were displayed last week and tonight. Actually, it’s kind of frightening.

  77. lexky says:

    the guy who talked about getting hit on by men in random states

  78. CrazyInAlaska says:

    @justafarmer
    I think it was the last guy, he was a nut.

  79. Nan says:

    from what little I know, Levi has the best reaction to the Letterman thing of all of them.

    There’s a new video of the idiot protesters (15 protesters, 35 media ROFL)

    gads.

  80. lexky says:

    nan
    thanks for the sympathy
    letterman was good tonight

  81. Canadian Neighbour says:

    They have a meeting tomorrow night too?

  82. justafarmer says:

    Nan, it’s already way too late for me, so I’ll stick around for 1,000!
    We’re getinig pretty close.
    OK, who was the worse person testifying tonight?
    My vote goes to the first redshirt woman who brought up her two daughters in the public bathroom (and I noted that she looked like the TG master sergeant)

  83. CrazyInAlaska says:

    Letterman just made a joke about his band preforming at the “rally” (fire David Letterman)

  84. Nan says:

    poor lexky!

    I only had some “virtual” hooch – thanks to justafarmer

  85. Canadian Neighbour says:

    Gotta love CNN – Larry King on here at 9. I left station on while listening and typing so it replayed at midnight and geewhiz, it’s on again. Have seen Levi 3 times tonight. So much for being a News station. Repeat King and Cooper basically all night.

  86. lexky says:

    justafarmer
    where will your pics end up?

  87. lexky says:

    cant have wine. at work 🙁

  88. Nan says:

    justafarmer, be careful taking those pictures. And I hope you don’t fall asleep in the middle of one of ’em lol

    Nan

  89. califpat says:

    @Canadian: I sincerely concur.

  90. lexky says:

    its been interesting

  91. justafarmer says:

    lol seattle, is ALWAYS best to blame it on the wine!

  92. Nan says:

    Okay, I’m going to stick around until we hit 1000, Why, I don’t know, but then again, why not?

  93. justafarmer says:

    to all mudpups, thanks for a wonderful night!
    Even a tornado or two or more couldn’t stop me!

  94. Canadian Neighbour says:

  95. justafarmer says:

    haaa! I’m wide awake right now, but I hvae dogs saying let’s go to bed…
    whops! Prevo’s people might have something dastaredly to connotate about that!

  96. Canadian Neighbour says:

    You know, the thing I don’t get out of all this is if they have the sexual orientation rule or law in the schools, what’s the big frickin deal.

  97. seattlefan says:

    Canadian Neighbour……ooops, I left out the “u”. Sorry. It is late and I’m blaming it on the wine. 🙂

  98. sleep well, just a farmer 🙂

  99. Nan says:

    They need two chicken moms!

  101. Canadian Neighbour says:

  104. mhrt says:

    Thanks to all of you doing the typing.

  105. Canadian Neighbour says:

    WOW. I didn’t know about the live streaming so totally missed last week. What an education. Was it needed — not really but it sure opens the eyes!!!

  106. seattlefan says:

    Same to you Canadian Neighbor! LOL…I’m sure we’ll never know, but I’m pretty sure it was Ziegler. You really should go read those comments. HILARIOUS!

  107. Kat says:

    I was finally able to connect to the hearings tonight. Wish I hadn’t, I’m sick to my stomach, bad taste in mouth & head whirling from all the ignorance out there. I’ll continue to watch though – gotta keep the positive energy sending out through the slime.

  108. Doggonit says:

    Couldn’t they save a lot of time drafting two or three letters and have the congregation sign them?

    If we talley up the children in the ladies room with two men, there had to be about 40 children in the ladies room at the same time.

  109. Nan says:

    Omigawd, go to Huff Post and read about the “protest” by 15 (FIFTEEN!) protesters – and what they had to say.

    Those people are SP’s “BASE” base.

    unbelievable.

  134. GreatGrey says:

    Holy crap, this guy is speaking for god. Wonder if god knows he has a new spokesman.

  135. Canadian Neighbour says:

    His opinion is of very little value. I switched screeens, saw red — Yup, he’s right.

  136. Nan says:

    I’m actually a little tired of seeing the dang flag. “turned life over to Christ”

    is now going to give us His opinion (Christ)

  137. seattlefan says:

    Thanks to all you live bloggers! I can’t keep my head up any longer and need to get to sleep. I was back and forth between here and Huffpo about the NY Protest thingy. Hilarious over there! Turns out only 15 showed up and the organizer reportedly saw how lame it was and jumped in a cab a left.

    I hope this Assembly will wrap things up soon and do the right thing. Great reporting to all of you. I had the link in the beginning, but lost it. Not sure why.

  138. CrazyInAlaska says:

  143. justafarmer says:

    oh, crafters of the ordinance were secret and underhanded and then there’s the boogeyman in the bathroom…

  144. Canadian Neighbour says:

  146. GreatGrey says:

    Many of the reddies reference existing Federal and State laws. Would they, if given the chance, rescind those laws?

  151. Nan says:

    some have been deceived into thinking “civil rights”

    no, it’s “special reights”

  152. Canadian Neighbour says:

    Change sexual orientation to caloricly challenged. More discrim against them than gays.

    Excuse me — you can change that. Get out of your truck and walk would be a start. Probably leave the 2nd and 3rd helpings alone.

  153. austintx says:

    2 words for ya Jeff…….diet and exercise.

  154. GreatGrey says:

  157. Nan says:

    wiseacre.

    chopping off body parts will not change XX or XY.

  158. Mirage 18 says:

    I don’t get these people. Just because you never have seen this type of discrimination doesn’t mean it does not exist.

    Some of them seem to live their lives in a fairly closed circle of people. But, I doubt they are even aware of this.

    Maybe it is easier to associate only with like minds that way you don’t have to expand your horizons?

    Who has EVER heard of a GAY man, dressed as a woman (which truly makes him transvestite, not necessarily gay), hitting on a young girl in a bathroom? IDIOTS – he wouldn’t be GAY then would he?!! Could we start an open season on stupidity? Stamp it out, send ’em to school, send ’em to travel the world, make them live with gays – whatever works. ARRRRGGGGHHHHH! Maybe just send ’em all to the moon – we’ll deal with them later!

    I love my parents, I love my parents, I love my parents… they always told me two things: be tolerant, and don’t succumb to peer pressure. They didn’t tell us WHAT to think, but showed us HOW to think.

  221. GreatGrey says:

    They all have notes now, someone outside is prepping the reddies.

  222. Doggonit says:

    These people are retarded. I’ve never seen anything so sad.

  223. Nan says:

    WHAT????????

    Oh, now we’re getting the story of Lot’s wife and pillar of salt etc. (WHAT does this have to do with ANYTHING here?)

  246. Canadian Neighbour says:

    Will have to build transgender bathrooms – WTF.

    She hasn’t looked outside her braincell. The state is attached to a country that allows gay marriage since 2005. Sexual orientation laws first appeared on our books in 1996. She might want to read a book, seach the internet.

    I love the restroom thing! The men coming into the women’s. Hello?!! Nothing will happen, THEY ARE GAY!!!!

    oh geez… here’s the restroom story again. Is she claiming to be the one that had the situation??

  254. justafarmer says:

    a man dressed as woman in the bathroom will HIT on the little girls???WTF???

  255. austintx says:

    was that a church song ringtone ??

  256. InJuneau says:

    OMG, the “sexual” ordinance? Really? And how idiotic to not turn off your cell phone before you testify. It’s NOT a choice, lady, really it’s not.

  257. Doggonit says:

    God is calling on this lady’s cell phone.

  258. CrazyInAlaska says:

    I hate that they keep saying “it is a choice!” They must not know ANYONE who is gay! And where is their proof! I have yet to see anything that show their proof.

  259. justafarmer says:

    what on earth is this woman trying to say???

  260. Doggonit says:

    Does it say some where in the Bible that these people need to wear red and repeat the same nonsense?

  261. Nan says:

    again, murder is illegal, but anti-lynch laws had to be passed before “some” realized they meant it (in the 30s I think)

  262. InJuneau says:

  263. austintx says:

  265. Canadian Neighbour says:

    CrazyinAlaska,
    “Has anyone in red got up and talked and NOT referred to the Bible, or Christ, or church? I am asking this as a serious question!”

    Thank you for saying that. Canada isn’t Bible rabid as many have displayed tonight so it’s something I notice.

  266. GreatGrey says:

    Is shaved head dude sewing his finger up?

  267. Nan says:

    state & nat’l constitutions guarantee “not interfere with religion”

    is proposing changed wording to ‘allow” for constitution. (idjit doesn’t know the constitution is inviolable already? And supercedes anything else? good grief.)

  268. justafarmer says:

    wow, I missed a lot when the computer locked up (guess it couldn’t handle all the crap)…

  269. InJuneau says:

    BTW, I’m a Christian, and MY God doesn’t give a rat’s a** about who my neighbor loves. She loves us all and accepts us all as we are and is gonna let all the good people into heaven/the afterlife. (yes, I attend an “accepting” church)

  270. Nan says:

    this ord does not protect those who are “of the faith”

    (christians aren’t perfect… just forgiven – sorry, tis my least fave bumper sticker and sticking in my craw badly right now)

  271. Mirage 18 says:

    I don’t think I have ever heard so many folks mentioning their religion during public testimony before in my life.

    I used to attend city council meetings fairly regularly, too.

    Maybe it is just the nature of the topic? Or, is this norm in Anchorage? Just wondering…

  274. Nan says:

    heard lot of accusation that thsoe opposed are motivated by hate/fear. most are not (sez he). those who are christians… (huh?) oh – love one another as ourselves (waiting for the “but”)…

    last week someone said, “WHY would I choose *this* lifestyle” he knows. Ohh.. shes a sinner and so is he.

  275. InJuneau says:

    Really? ‘Cause in my book if you love everyone as yourself, you wouldn’t discriminate or hate.

  276. CrazyInAlaska says:

    Has anyone in red got up and talked and NOT referred to the Bible, or Christ, or church? I am asking this as a serious question!

  277. califpat says:

    The reddie with the hoodie: Hey family lady, you lie, you know very well that your daughter does not have 3 gay friends who are struggling with it. You know you would never allow her to have gay friends and would die the death of a rabid dog if you even thought she did. Stop the BS and admit you are homphobic and that’s who you are.

  278. strangelet says:

    @Lori: actually, you still pretty funny (viz. 785). Sent me off with a laugh.

  281. InJuneau says:

  282. CrazyInAlaska says:

  284. Lori in Los Angeles says:

  285. strangelet says:

    @771 fawnskin: I must say that the comments are getting less peppy. Perhaps you all are getting tired, or perhaps the speakers are, or perhaps Pervo had them line up by declining IQ. I think I need to retire — more yardwork tomorrow.

    Night all. Thanks for the blogging.

  286. InJuneau says:

    That shooting has NOTHING to do with this, and does she really think that the Assembly would be out there dealing with drug deals gone bad if they weren’t sitting around listening to all their hate?

  287. Nan says:

    shooting at sports authority – wtf?

    we’re not doing anything to stop it. we are blind to “other world” oiut there.

    what does this have to do with ANYTHING?!

  288. ajpinak says:

    Gays caused the shooting at Sports Authority? wtf?

  289. Lori in Los Angeles says:

    yes, just ignore it like bengich did and it will go away. yes, other issues are important – so therefore, ignore this one?

  290. InJuneau says:

  297. CrazyInAlaska says:

    Caused a lot of division? The division was already there, it is just visible now!

  298. InJuneau says:

    strangelet–true, but with this bunch, you never know what they’d do. I can see them trying to take it to the court.

    Oh sob story. Maybe you should take care of your family and not come here to preach hate.

  299. Nan says:

    omiGAWD that one was PAINFUL!

  300. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

  315. CrazyInAlaska says:

    This man is an idiot!

  316. strangelet says:

    @741 InJuneau: The 9th Circuit is the most liberal, but they still wouldn’t give much of a rip about a city ordinance, except to consider its constitutionality.

  317. Canadian Neighbour says:

    If you aren’t gay, you don’t hear the discrimination as it’s not directed at you. He says I’ve never heard it. Lived since 1951.

  318. InJuneau says:

    DUH, time your speach before you try to give it in front of the Assembly!

  319. GreatGrey says:

    He has a sad.

  320. Nan says:

    strangelet – heck if I know. Was typing as fast as I could. She said they put him in a “private” preschool, but I have a feeling it was a “christian” preschool or something

  321. Doggonit says:

    Testimony is proving you need an IQ below 80 to join Prevo’s church.

  322. lexky says:

    im sorry but the guy with the sleeves cut off of his shirt, i might have seen him on to catch a predator.

  323. InJuneau says:

    That guy in the front row is really annoying, hence my keeping that tab in the background and not watching it, just listening!

  324. GreatGrey says:

    The chair screwed up calling numbers/names thru the 140s. One of my friends was in that group, I’ll bet he just got pissed at being passed and went home.

    Too bad, he woulda been good.

  325. Nan says:

    evidence has been anecdotal and hearsay

    haven’t met the lawyer yet that wouldn’t take the dollar (I have, but that’s another story – nan)

  326. justafarmer says:

    hey, I saw/heard this guy a little while ago!

  327. strangelet says:

    @738 Nan: They have PUBLIC pre-schools in Alaska?

  328. Canadian Neighbour says:

    Is Carol Prevo trying to save herself for the last one. As she should have already spoken. Or did she leave!! That would be kewl

  329. Nan says:

    *HE* has not seen discrimination…

    early in 50s, 60s, some ‘melding (?) that took place.

    don’t need extra layer of buracracy

  330. InJuneau says:

    Canadian Neighbour–actually, the 9th Circuit is the most liberal Circuit Court in the US and often gets overturned at the SCOTUS.

  331. justafarmer says:

    2:13 am here in Kentucky, DH just woke up and said I know what you’re up to, where are those good cookies….LOL!

  332. Lori in Los Angeles says:

    I think the last “lady” was Prevo – not the wife, maybe a relative.

  333. Nan says:

    4 yr old kid came home from preschool “Mommy, boys can marry boys” – kid yanked, then put in private preschool

    not for, fer shure

  334. strangelet says:

    @717 CN: This is almost trivial in context, but the 9th Circuit of the US Federal Appeals Court would have zero interest in the content of an Anchorage ordinance, unless they were to rule it unconstitutional.

  335. Canadian Neighbour says:

    At 4 years, he’s now 17. At 4 he came home from school and said boys can marry boys. == She screwed up. Bye Bye — No credibility

  336. Lori in Los Angeles says:

    here is “I have Gay friends!” “see, it is ME who is being discriminated against!’
    she got him out of a pre-school because her kid as told men can marry men.
    oh, the horror.

  337. InJuneau says:

    The red shirts just don’t want it to pass while the “liberal” acting mayor is still in place, because he won’t veto it and then it would be in place. If they can delay long enough, it won’t get voted on until the elected mayor (Dan Sullivan) is in place and can veto is.

    She doesn’t discriminate? Who is she kidding? Just listen to her…

  338. Nan says:

    doesn’t matter what color, what orientation… but now *she* is feeling discriminated against – signs at work (loads of gay at work)

  339. justafarmer says:

    passing a glass to InJuneau…

  340. Nan says:

    InJuneau – I’d like to be next for said jug

  341. justafarmer says:

    Karen Prevo is coming up soon????

  342. Doggonit says:

    Another Christian women saying gays are deviants.

    Once again proving that they are being discriminated against.

  343. Lori in Los Angeles says:

    that IS their agenda, they are awaiting mayor sullivan to veto. that is it in nutshell.

  344. Nan says:

    huh?

    “timing of the attempt to pass the amendment ” and something about the “EEELECTED Mayor”

  345. InJuneau says:

    Seriously, justafarmer, pass that Scotch on up here. I need a big shot after that one.

  346. justafarmer says:

    I’m feeling sorry for these sorry pieces of Christian wannabes.
    And this woman just used the dyke word as an apology.

  347. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

    i am getting really really annoyed with that idiot redshirt sitting behind the podium with that stupid grin on his face

  348. strangelet says:

    @716 Nan: Too bad there isn’t a law that allows jailing people for spouting egregious BS.

  349. Canadian Neighbour says:

    Tell her to come see me!!!!! Please, Please, pretty please!!!!!

  350. austintx says:

    Where is the jailed pastor ?? Psycho-billy hater.

  351. califpat says:

    Since when have human rights for all been considered special rights? And I do not believe for a minute that you have two lesbian friends that told you they have never been discriminated against! And what if one of your precious little children who you are trying to protect from gays confide in you that he/she is gay? Would you stop loving him/her?

  352. Mirage 18 says:

    I love the generalities… the last gal said that religion can’t be taught in classrooms. Yet, religion is taught in classrooms throughout the U.S. – religion as history is taught in classrooms daily.

  353. Lori in Los Angeles says:

    this one needs to move to wasilly. pastors will be jailed. prevo will look good in orange jumpsuit methinks,

  354. Canadian Neighbour says:

    9th circuit court of appeals is most liberal and they will interpret it like that. Oh man — when does this crap come from.

    My fingers and my brain aren’t connecting for spelling!!!!

  355. Nan says:

    “christians have been JAILED (in canada or sweden or something) for stating homosexuality is a sin”

  356. CrazyInAlaska says:

    Brainwashing students?! You’re right! Brainwashing them to respect EVERYONE!!

  357. justafarmer says:

    oh this newest redshirt is a piece of work. Canada Scandinavia…

  358. Nan says:

    yes, she *does* have an angry voice.

    doesn’t want gays to be homeless, jobless, or without health care…

    but relig exemptions are inadequate, and judges can have diff interpretations (claims the judgs there are THE most lib)

  359. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

    hahaha, lori…”guarding the bathrooms…”

  360. GreatGrey says:

    9th circuit argument…. gagh!

    Canada, Scandanavia, and Philly? There’s a combination for ya.

  361. austintx says:

    justafarmer Says:
    off for another Scotch…coffee shop homos….
    *******************************************
    friends of Bristols , you betcha

  362. justafarmer says:

    hahahaaa! this last one said “asexual…I meant unacceptional,,,”

  363. Nan says:

    Oh heavens (is our children being edumacated – my goof)

  364. Canadian Neighbour says:

    Can’t speak about religion in church but this ord will allow it to be spoken about in school.

  365. GreatGrey says:

    ??? iPhone lady confuses equates homosexuality as a religion?

  366. Nan says:

    *Are* every one testifying Anchorage residents?

  367. Lori in Los Angeles says:

    prevo never spoke, I swear I heard her name called. maybe she is out in the hallway, gurading the bathrooms from the Gays.

  368. InJuneau says:

    Julia O’Malley is a reporter for the ADN and grew up in Anchorage I think. I can’t believe that even if she’s never experienced discrimination in Anch. that she truly believes that no other gays/lesbians in Anch. have.

    And do we really think that any who have would be telling all their red-shirt “friends” about it? PULEEZE!

  369. justafarmer says:

    ok, men dressing as women…I haven’t worn a dress since 1970.
    I must be a prevert…

  370. GreatGrey says:

    Julia Omally’s ADN pages…

    http://community.adn.com/adn/blog/106971

  371. Nan says:

    if someone can “dress in drag” after the ordinance, well shoot – they already CAN – that story again

  372. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

    oh, to be s&^(faced

  373. Doggonit says:

    Bunch of red shirts saying there isn’t any discrimination but say they hate the gays and transvestites. LOL She thinks they are deviants and don’t deserve specials rights.

    She gets a standing ovation from the haters.

  374. ajpinak says:

    “If I asked my lesbian co-workers if they were discriminated against I’m sure they would say no” wtf, is she a mind reader?

  375. CrazyInAlaska says:

    @Austintx

    Very, very funny!! Thank you!

  376. Closet Mudpup says:

    It’s hilarious that a redshirt can get up and argue that the ordinance is unnecessary because discrimination against gays doesn’t really exist. Hey, lady — look at your shirt — why are you wearing red??

  377. Canadian Neighbour says:

    Ord quicly pushed through. Don’t remember hearing about discrimination. Work with several at coffee shop & they say they haven’t. Do you think they would tell this beaatch the truth. I don’t.

    Ord being pushed down our throats.

    Back to the bathroom issue. Man Church last week didn’t provide enough alternate stories to use.

  378. Sourdough Mullet says:

    Yes, let’s put it to a vote.
    Government by “Tyranny of the Majority”. To HELL with the Bill of Rights!
    Now, THAT”S the American Way!!

  379. Lori in Los Angeles says:

    aha, I knew she would be on the bathroom thing LOL – ho long b4 men dress like women and find their ay in there? (bathroom)

  380. strangelet says:

    GreatGrey: Thank you. Sounds like she’s lucky, too.

  381. Mirage 18 says:

    According to the classmates.com website, there was a John Doe 1978 graduating class of South Anchorage High School.

    I didn’t see him, so, don’t know if this fits his age. But, can you imagine having the name “John Doe”?

  382. GreatGrey says:

    This woman leaked new Prevo tactic, to put this up for a public vote.

  383. Nan says:

    Oh, news media would have a field day with.

    work w/several lesbians… supervisor – ‘if asked, they’d probably say no discrimination” (but HAS she asked?)

    “rammed down their throats”

  384. austintx says:

    If we were playing a drinking game where you had to take a shot everytime the word bible or bathroom was used tonite….we would be s^*tfaced………

  385. justafarmer says:

    off for another Scotch…coffee shop homos….

  386. GreatGrey says:

    Who the heck is Julia O’Malley?

    Reporter for the Anchorage Daily News, recently promoted to feature writer. Very nice woman, gay too.

  387. Nan says:

    Her own opinion… special not equal rights.

  388. Sourdough Mullet says:

    “Do I want fairness for everyone? Yes” ????????!

    OK,,,,,,,,,,, sure didn’t sound like it.

  389. fawnskin mudpuppy says:

    which one is prevo’s wife?

  390. GreatGrey says:

    OMG, the reds are running, not in Copper River, but at the assembly, a whole slew of em coming up.

  391. califpat says:

    @Strangelet: It might as well be. You betcha!!

  392. justafarmer says:

    she said ASSASINATION?????

  393. Canadian Neighbour says:

    Well when the ordinence passes, they deserve to be nailed for not following rules.

  394. strangelet says:

    Who the heck is Julia O’Malley?

  395. Nan says:

    therefore, can we not assume that… others have been treated respecfully. most acts of unkindness … oh, “victims (of discrim) must then bring it on themselves

  396. GreatGrey says:

    Oh crap, portraying Prevo as the victim.

    Paging Sarah Palin….

  397. mhrt says:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Tripoli
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    treaty of Tripoli
  398. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    so, miss o’malley as not discriminated agaisnt, so nobody is. this is her logic. she has no logic, it is all illoical.
  399. justafarmer says:
    she said “jew-no” valley? I was trying for a phonetic thing)
  400. Nan says:
    influenced by julia o’malley (gay?) In her 10 yrs of coming out, hadn’t rec’d discrim or harassment (o’malley)
  401. Canadian Neighbour says:
    Doggonit — Note the name – John Doe.
    Loranna Bobbitt would have made him a Jane Doe!!
  402. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    nope, it is norma – just looks like prevo wife.
  403. GreatGrey says:
    Just looked in my new copy of the Anchorage White Pages,… no listing for any John Doe.
  404. austintx says:
    Wifey Prevo huh ?? Looks like a shot of Tequila is in order…..
  405. strangelet says:
    @656 califpat: Tithing? Is that a polite word for vomiting?
  406. Nan says:
    seems to be saying y ou can’t legislate acceptance
  407. Doggonit says:
    John Doe wants to talk about contract law. Thinks lawyers will make lots of money off the ordinance because Christians will keep discriminating against others. Doesn’t think people will follow rules. He’s seeing a lot of piercings at shopping center.
  408. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    they gays ill corrupt the young folk. “ya gotta treat us the same way” – oh no.
    what a turd. here comes prevo.
  409. CrazyInAlaska says:
    “what young people learn they learn from older people” Yes, like HATE!! What an idiot1
  410. Canadian Neighbour says:
    This Dtard should climb back under his rock.
  411. Nan says:
    It’s something that’s been going on thru history (that makes it ok? dammmmm)
    “can’t take it away if it’s inalienable” (mispronounced, but idea was right)… seems to begrudge lawyers etc.
    doesn’t like piercings or black lipstick or 2 girls holding hands lol
  412. justafarmer says:
    ummm…he just pointed at his clunky pack thingie…
  413. Canadian Neighbour says:
    Red Shirts — contractors won’t come in to build as they just won’t have anything to do with “them”. It’s a sin.
    Those “thems” have names — Are men and women and boys and girls.
  414. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    yeppers, looks like the little wifey of the rev. prevo up next!
  415. Nan says:
    omigawd. two contractors, one discovers the owner of the house is “other” then one of the contractors won’t come back ??? huh?
    Oh, lawyers are gonna make a lot of money. sheesh
  416. califpat says:
    After his quoting of Biblical verses I almost feel like tithing.
  417. justafarmer says:
    and what was the noticeably clunky pack he dropped on the table there?
  418. justafarmer says:
    JOHN DOE MY PATOOTY!
  419. Nan says:
    strangelet – I will! (634-ish)
  420. austintx says:
    If we were playin………what ????…….did she just say Prevo ?!?!
  421. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    i would have a difficult time of it in anchorage if this fellow got his way and everyone had to be christian.
  422. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    Sourdough Mullet Says: (of the old testament bible lady)
    Woo Hoo! If this whack job Christian Wingnut with the Webster’s dictionary doesn’t convince the assembly to vote FOR the ordinance, nothing will!
    EXACTLY! This is what I believe whole-heartedly. The red sh*ts are HELPING to get this passed, no doubt in my mind. Most are not clever, logical, or able to hide their bigotry, and they make the case to pass this ordinance BETTER than those who show up to support it. so funny, they do not know that they are helping to pass this! my eyes hurt from the stoooooopid.
    alert: Carol Prevo coming up!!
  423. Canadian Neighbour says:
    159 – Did she say Carol Prevo — any relation????
  424. justafarmer says:
    and why does his upper sleeves look all wrinklely?
  425. GreatGrey says:
    John Doe? Give me a freaking break.
  426. InJuneau says:
    OMG, I SO don’t think the City of Anchorage was founded on the principles of the Bible!
    hey, justafarmer, could you pass that bottle of scotch my way?
  427. justafarmer says:
    does anyone else see his suit as a olive-tone uniform?
  428. Nan says:
    GreatGrey, he is a little unsettling, fer shure. (Now watch him get up and be in favor… ) ha.
  429. Doggonit says:
    Professor sighting moral commandments of god. Nation based on Christianity. He doesn’t believe in reason and rational thought.
  430. strangelet says:
    @636 Crazy: Unfortunately, they’ll never stop saying it, even though it is not true.
  431. justafarmer says:
    a Supreme Court case????
  432. justafarmer says:
    LOL, CN…handing a glass to you too, also, there…
  433. Mirage 18 says:
    Those of you who attend church might get a pass this week just by watching this meeting. 🙂
  434. austintx says:
    what is is ??
  435. Sourdough Mullet says:
    I think this Mormon boy must have gotten hit in the head w/ one the holy tablets…
  436. CrazyInAlaska says:
    Can people stop saying that the country was founded on the Bible!!
  437. austintx says:
    Did this dork just bring a bible up to the lectern ??
  438. strangelet says:
    @625 Nan: You should look it up. It gives an entirely non-wingnut view of the actual beliefs of the actual Founders.
  439. Nan says:
    wants, in his blue shirt (!) the city to adhere to the moral whatsit, now reading from Bible.
  440. justafarmer says:
    oh crap, another OT quoter…
  441. Canadian Neighbour says:
    justafarmer,
    Me Too, Me Too!! I can easily learn to drink listening to this!!!
  442. CrazyInAlaska says:
    @ GreatGrey:
    You think? Driving me crazy!
  443. justafarmer says:
    and that guy in the front row has PAPERS in his hands!
  444. CrazyInAlaska says:
    I love when well spoken people get up there, with facts!!!
  445. justafarmer says:
    I’m gonna be hopeless in the morning doing tornado storm damage photo documentation for NWS because I can NOT leave this!
  446. GreatGrey says:
    The shaved head guy in the red sleeveless t-shirt with the flag on the front row is starting to bug me.
  447. Nan says:
    “Treaty of Tipoli” – ??? we are not a Christian country, we are not based as … wow, I gotta look that one up!!!
  448. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    Adams, Treaty of Tripoli – very important.
  449. Nan says:
    This gal is ner – ah, thyroid prob, bothers voice.
    sees so much discrimination in these testimonies, figures there is a need for…??? (love her hair!)
  450. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    this woman speaks quite well with just a few notes
  451. lovemydogs says:
    Welcome back Snoskred. You kept me laughing when I needed it last week.
  452. Nan says:
    oh gawd, thank you farmer!
  453. CrazyInAlaska says:
    To quote Bill Maher, “…consuming shellfish is an Abomination” I am sick and tired of people pulling the Bible into play when it works for them.
  454. califpat says:
    This woman is a Bible thumper of the worst order who uses the Bible to take away others free will and human rights through Christianity.
  455. justafarmer says:
    handing a glass to Nan…we need it
  456. Sourdough Mullet says:
    Woo Hoo! If this whack job Christian Wingnut with the Webster’s dictionary doesn’t convince the assembly to vote FOR the ordinance, nothing will!
  457. Doggonit says:
    Red Shirt black woman pretends ordinance will make her sleep with other woman.
  458. Canadian Neighbour says:
    Red – African American – I’m sorry, there was a lady earlier who spoke of one of her relatives that marched with Dr, King for your rights. A White person.
  459. Nan says:
    Well, I guess we know how she feels… can’t get much more red in a single outfit… I wonder if she’s wearing white underneath…
    violate her right to practice her religion according to her faith.
    (whatever happened to Jesus’ words “Live and let live” eh?) wow.
  460. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    she is Old Testament, but then talks Jesus (so, she makes absolutely no sense). she gives us basic instructions before leaing earth. WHACK.A.DOODLE.
  461. justafarmer says:
    oh my! she’s quoting OT and just reciting….sigh
    oh my “witchyu””
    sigh…
  462. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    WHACKADOODLE ALERT!!
  463. mlaiuppa says:
    At some point they’ll close public comment. When they think they can do so without too much protest. They’ll say both sides had their say and enough is enough.
  464. justafarmer says:
    what on earth is this woman talking about? She can hardly pronounce the words.
  465. GreatGrey says:
    onerous, flagerently ROTFL
  466. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    whackadoodle alert
  467. CrazyInAlaska says:
    The red shirts want to keep it going on until Sullivan is in.
  468. justafarmer says:
    me too, CN. Red Hat punked them big time!
  469. GreatGrey says:
    A walking dictionary, just what everyone needs.
  470. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    I just had a frightening thought. They let people sign up every day. They allow anyone to testify, even if not from Anchorage. I remember one from last week from out of State! So, if the red sh*ts have 100 people sign up each day, even getting folks from across the Nation (fellow Fundies) – this could go on for years and years – OR will the assembly panel at some point stop further testimony? Do they HAVE to keep listening until ALL people who want to be heard ARE heard?
  471. Canadian Neighbour says:
    Gotta say, some when they start talking, you aren’t sure – yes or no. As they keep speaking, there isn’t the clarity to know and then poof — they are for it.
    Good for the older retired lawyer lady!!
    And I loved the red hat guy punked them except he’ll hear it later. Oh well. Good for him. He started strange and got stronger!!
  472. justafarmer says:
    ok, is the yellow badge ACLU or Equality Works?
  473. justafarmer says:
    another yellow badge!
  474. ajpinak says:
    finally a run of blue…
  475. CrazyInAlaska says:
    I hate how nervous some of them are. It makes me feel so bad for them.
  476. justafarmer says:
    up to the 150s, so we’re just halfway…
  477. InJuneau says:
    Regina of the famous blog lives in France, so I don’t think so.
  478. justafarmer says:
    that was fun!
  479. justafarmer says:
    sexual activity in the workplace? And she says sexual activity in the workplace has historically been by heterosexuals.
  480. Nan says:
    it covers who people are, not what they do. works for fed govt, protected against discrimination.
    however, the activity in the workplace can get you fired!
    She’s cute.
  481. CrazyInAlaska says:
    I have to get in on this.. I think the eye doc was against it too
  482. Nan says:
    for 64S, against 64S1… Hm.
    Sec 9 of S1… getting to the nitty gritty!
  483. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    this lady is named regina, wonder if she is the regina of the famous blog?
  484. InJuneau says:
    I think the eye doc was against.
  485. Ennealogic says:
    @Forever Anonymous, I couldn’t tell on those two!
  486. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    i think that that “fart” noise is someone snoring
  487. justafarmer says:
    oh my! This is a change of boat in the middle of the river!
  488. Nan says:
    this will protect heteral as well as homosexual (according to him)
  489. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    that was cool
  490. lexky says:
    we havent had any bad weather here yet. hope everything is ok.
    nothing cuter than baby chicks.
    if only this group were as smart as those chicks.
  491. califpat says:
    The optometrist stayed safe and rode straight down the middle. He was neither for or against it. He refused to take a position.
  492. austintx says:
    AMEN !!
  493. GreatGrey says:
    Hah! He punked the reddies by wearing a red hat… lol
  494. Nan says:
    Did this kid take “oratory” in high school or something? or just nervous, prolly.
    folks think discrimination is ok, not because of facts, but their own private lives… (he’s for it, btw). born and raised, no idea of the prejudice around him.
  495. justafarmer says:
    wow!!! He is asking for the ordinance to be passed!!!!
    WOW!!!!!!!
  496. oh, good night ennealogic
  497. CrazyInAlaska says:
    He is in support of it!!!! The guy in the red hat!
  498. ajpinak says:
    Between red hat and guy in front in cut off red shirt is killing me…
  499. austintx says:
    TELL IT !!
  500. justafarmer says:
    oh, a silly cheerleader….
  501. justafarmer says:
    lexy, had a tornado touchdown five miles away and then another one about 10 miles away as hte crow flies (but about 45 minutes to drive there), have to go take pics for NWS in the morning.
    Got new baby chicks this morning, plus chicks hatched two weeks ago with two moms. It’s a hoot watching the two moms herding the three chicks, and hte chicks don’t care that they have two moms.
  502. Nan says:
  584. Nan says:
    it has pervasive, *intended* consequence – something about Boston adoptions (???)
    Boy Scouts, Salvation Army, … when Chrisian schools are shut down… 2k kids in Christian schools, 38 million will be needed when the Christian schools close down (that’s one of the consequences???)
    sheesh
  585. Canadian Neighbour says:
  614. GreatGrey says:
    Woman says homosexuals can be cured? Pagin Ted Haggard.
    Ethan Berkowitz, he’ll be good and prepared.
  615. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    the ordianance is not even about gay marriage – she thinks it is! nothing about marriage in there at all. quoting Jesus -you cannot be both male and female and you cannot switch back and forth. you can overcome homosexuality. this one is a big DUD.
  624. lovemydogs says:
    I posted this in Sunday: you betcha they are all there regurgitating Prevo’s last “sermon”. he must have posted his “statistics” on his hate filled web site:
    Talk about spewing hate…I just happened to turn my TV on this morning to try to catch GS, and who is on the channel that came up but Jerry Prevo. UGH. I usually flip the remote as fast as I can when he is on but I stopped for about 2 minutes (as long as I could take) to see how his fundraising is going. He is like the girl in the fairytale who opens her mouth and nothing but snakes and vipers and spiders come out. His latest diatribe: he stood at the pulpit and spouted a bunch of “statisitics” (never stating where they came from) about how homosexuals have from 500-1000 partners in a lifetime (promiscuity), how gay men are more likely to die from AIDS (and therefore are a health hazard–old news Jerry, I lost more of my friends than I can count in the 80s and then the gay community got smart and started to protect itself– long before the heterosexuals figured out “oh my god, this isn’t a discriminating virus, we can get it too”–but god forbid that we should teach our hormone raging teenagers about condoms). I digress: He then went on to state that “we discriminate against smokers” and that if you can refuse to rent an apartment to a smoker then you should be allowed to refuse to rent an apartment to a homosexual. Holy bat-@%$t Batman! Those gays are going to endanger our health and pollute our air and stink up the carpets and shades if we rent to them. Huh. Does that mean that we can refuse to rent an apartment to a “Christian”? Hypocritical son of a….. . But the kicker was when he said that he hoped he would be “dead or raptured” before he saw equality for homosexuals come to pass. And, more importantly, before the government stuck their noses into “church” business and told them that they would no longer be tax-exempt if they continued to spew forth this hate talk from their pulpits. To this I started screaming at my TV “bring it (the rapture) on then..I hope to goodness that it takes all of these vile, hate-filled, paranoid people right off the face of the earth (that I love) and leaves people who just want to live and let live behind.” That would be heaven or earth. When I calmed down and read between the lines I noticed that what he failed to mention, to his enraptured crowd of followers, was the possibility that his fundraising for his “cause” is not about anything more than raising money to press his political agenda on the masses. Sounds like politics to me. Church and State anyone? Then he says “and there will be ushers coming down the aisles (of his mega-church) to collect your checks..just make them out to Anchorage Baptist Temple” I think hmmmmm, I wonder how much of that money makes it into his pocket??? I turned the TV OFF.
    I can’t get the live feed because I have dial-up and it is incredibly slow so I am counting on all of you mudpups to keep me up to date.
    Thanks.
  634. strangelet says:
    I’m sure glad you guys write such good comments. It gives me the flavor, without having to actually listen to the wackjobs (I know they’re not all wackjobs, but the wackjobs would make me crazy).
    It’s a little depressing to be forced to realize that a significant fraction of our fellows are still living in a pre-Enlightenment mindspace. On the other hand, maybe the ordinance will pass — it is the 21st Century (for many of us, anyhow).
    I wish the Assembly would make the speakers prove where they live. I don’t necessarily have a problem with the out-of-towners getting to voice their opinions (however obnoxious), but they shouldn’t be allowed to pretend to be constituents of the people who have to vote.
    I look REALLY good in red, hate that I have to throw all those clothes out…
  653. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    he set aside his responsibilities to God to come here tonight, lol! we do not need another protected group! I suppose he is pissed that women, minorities and children have “special” rights too.
  654. austintx says:
    I swear he hung on the aanncient a little long…..
  655. Nan says:
    going over the thing paragraph by paragraph. “Actual orientation” want’s definition. bad law, reject it
  656. califpat says:
    Archibald needs to sit down and STFU. He is just a bigot hiding behind building strong families and communities, he professes to be building while leaving out an important segment of the population. He believes that gays are just choosing to act in ways that are destuctive to themselves and their families. Code words again. What a joke!!
  657. Doggonit says:
    Lady in yellow says ordinance doesn’t protect religious freedom. She think homosexuality is all about bad behavior.
  658. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    red tie….what does it mean
  659. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    SHE has concluded this ordinance is bad. we have right to judge how humans behave and she justifies being judgemental. who died and made her the deicider? the purpose of the ordinance is to take away freedoms! what spin! she can go head to head with fox noise.
  660. Canadian Neighbour says:
    Physicsmom,
    I agree with you. She just wants to talk to someone. When she said she didn’t know any gays, I have to admit I screamed — Look around the room. Look who has been speaking.
    Ya know, she and the lady with the t-shirt early who lost her job, could probably get along quite nice!!
  661. justafarmer says:
    she’s making my head hurt….
  662. Nan says:
    freedome of religion and these ordinances are “mutually exclusive” – point of ordinance, to take away choice and right to act on beliefs.
    (humpf)
  663. austintx says:
    We only heard 88 last week……..and there were 300 plus signed up.
  664. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    oh, she’s wearing a shade of red: pink
  665. Doggonit says:
    A guy quotes some unknown and crazy ancient king, do move ancient boundary stone of boundary. Starts babbling some wild biblical stuff. Apparently thinks world will end if ordinance passes.
  666. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    “do not move an ancient boundary stone” HUH? he is a pastor. here come the scripture. repent and have access to the Lord. say no to sinful behavior but say yes to those who want help. conversion to HIS way he means.
  667. Ennealogic says:
    34 – “single straight christian mother” whose children are all straight; professional counselor, “affirms discrimination is alive and well” .. one client committed suicide, another (a doctor) lost job when it came out he was gay
    35 – opposed, another pastor !! has a non-profit “build the family”, calls gay a choice, warns panel not to “move an ancient boundary stone”; he’s sermonizing – blech
  668. justafarmer says:
    yep, I got it Lori and all after listening to her. Just goes to show: do NOT judge by appearances.
    wow, we’re only up to the 120s and there were more than 300 signed up last Tuesday? I need to block out all Tuesdays for a while..
    There was that “fart” noise again. Apparently was the mic being adjusted…
    But last Tuesday it was DEFINITELY a fart….
    just sayin…
    I think they have scheduled more for tomorrow night in an effort to clear this backlog out.
  670. Canadian Neighbour says:
    Head(?) of a non profit organization called Build a Family and then says “it’s a choice”. D..khead
  671. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    so this guy wants to change those poor homosexuals. this is quite the sermon.
  672. Physicsmom says:
    Confused lady was actually kind of refreshing. Sounds like she’s struggling with the issue. Not sure whether Jesus would like ordinance or not. Maybe she’s saveable. Hope some gay person talks to her in the lobby afterward.
  673. justafarmer says:
    wow, we’re only up to the 120s and there were more than 300 signed up last Tuesday? I need to block out all Tuesdays for a while..
  674. austintx says:
    Ok….someone just did it again……I heard it
  675. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    justafarmer, not all christians are like prevo – even if they wear huge cross – a lesson to be learned by me tonight.
  676. Mirage 18 says:
    I found the counselor to be a very compelling speaker.
  677. austintx says:
    Well this lady is about a straight shooter………calm..methodical…….looks like she could shred if need be.like her.
  678. GreatGrey says:
    Hello, I”m red flag man:
    Chair: Resubmit in 30 days.
  679. Nan says:
    careful to note she is Christian as are her 3 children.
    also careful to state that there IS discrimination.
    historically, change is slow. ’54, Brown vs board of ed… still places where those changes are not implemented.
  680. califpat says:
    The lady who says she does not know anyone gay is totally confused and I might add, just a little slow.
  681. justafarmer says:
    ACLU, I think, fawnskin
  682. Doggonit says:
    Mother wearing a cross has three straight children. A professional counselor says discrimination is real. Knows child who committed suicide and gay doctor who lost job.
  683. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    powerful testimony here re suicide of her patient due to discrimination – yes, discrimination is alive and well.
  684. justafarmer says:
    oh, this is a sad and heart-rending testimony
  685. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    what is that yellow thingy?
  686. justafarmer says:
    but she has that yellow thingie so Prevo’s people are prolly spinning aruond in circles
  687. justafarmer says:
    oh my! look at the HUGE cross hanging off her neck!
  688. Canadian Neighbour says:
    She’s making me feel like a Dr. Dolittle Push Me-Pull You. She’s for– no she’s–she is –maybe not. Aaaahhhhh!
  689. Nan says:
    doesn’t think she knows anyone who is gay… I bet she does, just doesn’t realize it!
    well, bless her heart. Misguided, but…
  690. Ennealogic says:
    32 – red shirt, talking about gays being HIV, promiscuous, short-lived, victims of domestic abuse, deviants, “government discriminates for the good of citizens, e.g. smoking” … “Homosexuality a Public Health Disaster”
    33 – another against, “I love the Lord Jesus” and [H]e wants everyone to know [H]e loves all of us, but she can’t “get to the point where she can say [Jesus] wants this to pass…”
  691. justafarmer says:
    she thinks she doesn’t know anyone who is gay? ROTFL!
  692. Doggonit says:
    Lady says Jesus loves us, even if we are all delusional. She doesn’t know what Jesus wants.
  693. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    she does not know anyone who is Gay. she is full of fear, this whackjob.
    booo hooooooo hooooooo.
  694. austintx says:
    cig. AND a swill of wine…….happy redshirt ???
  695. Nan says:
    It’s almost harder to be cranky towards “right” when they’re courteous about it, y’know? Well, sorta, anyway.
  696. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    they have all said everything she was going to say. good. shut up them. proud sunday schoold teacher who loves the lord jesus. this breaks the heart of jesus, who loves us even if e are self-deluded – she should know about delusion. NOT IN MY COMMUNITY she says. she admits she is not jesus. duh.
  697. GreatGrey says:
    This woman is saying its OK to be mean to homosexuals now cause Jeebuz will be nice to them later.
  698. austintx says:
    Bug -chasing……profiling……….this asswipe has got to go. quarantined ?? I’m takin’ a cig break on that one……….
  699. justafarmer says:
    alcoholism and homosexuality are similar….make me barf…
  700. Nan says:
    they don’t live to see age 65 (percentage given, I missed it)…
    it’s not about “serving ‘the majority’ of those governed”.. but ALL, right?
  701. Canadian Neighbour says:
    Red shirt – now quoting RollingStone mag about “Bug Chasers” – transmitting diseases.
    His appearance is deceiving. He looked like he could talk and research. Guess not
  702. califpat says:
    The lady in black says she wants statistics on how many gays were discriminated against in recent times and that if she is convinced then she just might chance her mind concerning gays.
  703. Trini says:
    Michael Penkin. Did he just blow his nose on the floor? He talks about disease “pandemic” Throws out stats on the # of sexual partners, oh, it just goes on. He is wearing a red shirt. He says that the ordinance will pose a health risk to the public. What a jerk.
  704. Doggonit says:
    Guys say gays are a hazard to public health like cigarettes are.
  705. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    great grey, lol I did not see that.
    deviant behavior causes high risk to public health. gay = aids says he.
    they have 101 to 500 partners, those Gays. so, therefore, they deserve the discrimination I suppose. Gay is like smoking and alcohol, a threat to the people. health issue. Oh cripes.
  706. justafarmer says:
    ickkkkk…….need more Scotch…..
  707. Physicsmom says:
    Woman asking for stats on discrimination, however, since it is currently legal, there is nothing to officially report, so there are no stats. All evidence is going to be anecdotal until this discrimination is declared illegal.
    Ack! New guy citing correlation of gay lifestyle and illness, specifically AIDS. What’s the point? Is he planning to purge them?
  708. justafarmer says:
    who is this eejit with the HIV crap???
  709. justafarmer says:
    yep Lori, that’s my take on Ms. greenshirt…
  710. justafarmer says:
    now they are calling numbers & names!
  711. Ennealogic says:
    30 – pink scarf, recites line from Declaration of Independence… “everyone here is worthy of being valued” … hmm..
    31 – against, says protection is already there in existing law and no ‘special rights’ are needed, wants to see new discrimination data, not from the 80’s, but apologizes to gays if the church has discriminated against them because “it’s wrong” … odd
  712. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    “I am not a bigot!” uh huh. needs to see stats – she does not really want to see.
  713. GreatGrey says:
    Did that guy just wack a loogie on the floor? 🙂
  714. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    if you are too nervous to spit it out, just sit down. we already have protection? er, no, we do not have protection – are you dim lady?
  715. Nan says:
    she was terrific.
  716. justafarmer says:
    oh, I love her!
  717. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    all men created equal – life, liberty, pursuit of happiness…
    could she talk a *little* faster?!
    Very few of the folks practiced & timed what they had to say, some very surprised at just how fast 3 minutes goes by.
  719. Nan says:
    “every person here, every human being – is valuable…”
    bless her.
  720. justafarmer says:
    she’s doing VERY well
  721. Nan says:
    all men created equal – life, liberty, pursuit of happiness…
    could she talk a *little* faster?!
  722. califpat says:
    Gina(not Gino) was awesome.
  723. Ennealogic says:
    28 – against ordinance, says more time is needed, it’s already been modified a lot; oh, he’s a pastor, uses the code words “behavioral differences” …
    29 – in support, called some speech about ordinance essentially over the top; how much discrimination should be tolerated; yes, she touched on my point that even if gay was a choice, so is religion!
  724. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    were they farting rainbows like the GINO?
  725. Trini says:
    Jeana Ashman. Supports the ordiance. The ordinance does not permit special rights. Discrimination is significant enough. It does occur and should not be tolerated.
  726. justafarmer says:
    lol, austin! I hesitatted to mention the fart noise, but this time I think it was a moving the mic noise. But glad we have a fart “sighting/hearing” again!
  727. Canadian Neighbour says:
  728. Lori in Los Angeles says:
  730. justafarmer says:
    she brings up a great point! too noisy outside and can’t hear their names called.
  731. Nan says:
    Lance – love your imagery (where are their goats tied, indeed!)
    bless your sweet cousin’s heart, she sounds like an incredible person. And bless her mama’s heart, too. She raised that kid right.
  732. austintx says:
    Did you just hear that ?? burp or fart ?? same as last week…..
  733. Doggonit says:
    Pastor wants to sit down and talk about the problems and wants time.
  734. justafarmer says:
    and he’s not looking at a prepared statement
  737. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    good post GaPeachm thank you
  738. justafarmer says:
    ok, I like him so far
  739. Canadian Neighbour says:
    Police, fire, nurses — when you need them as you are bleeding — do you stop to ask if they’re gay??
    Like the shooter at the Holocaust Museum — the 3 ambulance people were all African American. He must have hated it.
  740. califpat says:
    Wilson was such an intelligent young man that was well informed about discrimination againgt gays and transgenders. He came prepared with facts and researh. He did not bring gloom. doom, and fear.
  741. justafarmer says:
    another pastor, not sure where he’s coming from…yet
  742. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    austin says he is gay – so what? so, he is gonna corrupt the kiddies, invade the bathrooms, spread the aids and fwck donkeys!
  743. justafarmer says:
    thankyou califpat, I just couldn’t understand what he was saying but he did indeed sound sincere.
  744. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    sarah will not be allowed to substitute
  745. Ennealogic says:
    26 – gay eskimo, for ordinance, speaking to dual discrimination, mentions gay friend who is in afghanistan now in military; has studies supporting fact of LGBT discrimination in workplace
    27 – taking someone else’s place, turned back, no substitutions
  746. Trini says:
    Brenner Wilson (sp?) Difficulty of experiencing gay-bashing. His friend is in afganistan, and gay, and can be fired even after serving. Many people benefit from the services of gay people and are contributing members to the community. He talked about a study that found that 68% reported discrimination and 10-20% less income. Other stats of discrimination on the job and lesser percentage of income. Sounds like very compelling studies that he was citing to .
  747. austintx says:
    Very articulate , good looking young man……..comes across very informed and calmly delivers………oh , is he gay……..so what.
  748. justafarmer says:
    austin, he wasn’t anywhere NEAR as silly as last week’s Borat twin, Sergei
  749. Physicsmom says:
    What is with all these Akns who openly discriminate against gays and want to be protected to do that? Waitress mentioned above and other guy who was fired from two jobs for bringing his religion into the workplace.
    Two gay natives in a row. Interesting perspective on dual discrimination – both said gay issue was harder than Native.
  750. justafarmer says:
    the purple shirt reminded me of something totally OT…I sent off my purple passion swap stuff today. One of the items was purple duck tape. Wish I could have it in person in Anchorage tonight for select speakers…
  751. GA Peach a/k/a Lance the Boil aka Crust Scramble says:
    OK, I’m not going to lie and say I’ve read all y’all’s posts but I’ve gotta say, this “gay” thing, I’m over it. I want to know where these idiots are tying their goats, ’cause I really do want to get their goat.
    My cousin, way super smart, has her ph.d in zoology, is a college professor, drives 80 miles a day, 5 days a week, to a less than stellar position for her abilities, so that she can look after her Momma (88 years old, bedridden for the past 4 years). My precious, sacrificing cousin (when, exactly did sacrifice become a bad word?) believes that the greatest love she can give her Momma is to let her ‘live until she dies’ in her own bed, at her own time, in her own place (100 year old farmhouse) and she does this because she so loves her Momma so.
    Oh, and by the way, if it matters, my cousin is ‘gayer than laughter’.
    Please, dear God, protect me from those who use your Name to judge this sinner. Amen.
  752. califpat says:
    Sigvuld was articulate and heartfelt as he described the horrors he suffered as a gay young man.
  756. Ennealogic says:
    24 – blue shirt, personal recollections of discrimination as gay man, for healthy community need self-esteem (dignity), for 64
    25 – red shirt, heavy slavic accent, conflating homosexuals with disease i think, his daughter was discriminated against because she didn’t want to work with gays– i think
  760. justafarmer says:
    we had a Jimmy Stewart and now there’s a Tom Jones coming up? wow!
  762. Trini says:
  771. Trini says:
  772. austintx says:
  775. Physicsmom says:
    What the heck is this guy talking about the military? Doesn’t make any sense. Why are they so threatened by transsexuals? They aren’t interested in the same gender sexually. Weird.
  780. Canadian Neighbour says:
    My mouth drops open in disbelief everytime I hear a read shirt. Having laws which started in mid 60’s, with some amendments even in mid 90’s and civil marriage countrywide in 2005 — I’m gobsmacked of what they say.
  781. Nan says:
  782. justafarmer says:
  783. Nan says:
  792. Trini says:
    Hidden liberals who do not vote for the majority of the city. Whew, paranoia abounds! Concerned about men in drag going into restrooms puts her daughters at risk. An attack on her 1st amendment rights and freedom of religion. What a whack job!
  793. Lori in Los Angeles says:
  804. Closet Mudpup says:
  809. Nan says:
    Lori, same here. “an issue of justice and equality…”
  810. Trini says:
    Michael Keyes. Wants some changes to the amendment. Protection is essential. Those opposed are driven by fear. It is just about justice and equality, not about religion. People are missing the context of protected classes.
  811. justafarmer says:
    what meeting “last night” is he talking about?
  812. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    justafarmer, your hairplugs are falling out? me confused.
  813. justafarmer says:
    lol, GreatGrey! Garrison Keilor, indeed!
  814. califpat says:
    Could red shirt have been fired for be unqualified?
  815. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    here we go, an evangelical bishop – but he favors the ordinance ith some revisions – me surprised. when I hear evangelical, I do not usually think tolerance. ummmm.
  816. justafarmer says:
    ok, this is weird, I just got a message at the top of the Mudflats page that says “Additional plugins are required to display all media on this page”.
    Not gonna click on “install missing plugins” tonight…
  817. GreatGrey says:
    Lutherans, Garrison Keilor would be proud.
  818. califpat says:
    The Unitarian is definitely a five. Applause!!!
  819. Ennealogic says:
    19 – red shirt against the wording “sexual orientation” – was on probation/fired from last job because of his alleged aversion to someone else’s sexual orientation due to his strongly held religious beliefs; fired from someplace else because of his religious e-mail signature
    20 – in support, reading a letter from a unitarian church minister about truth of discrimination and the falsehood of the notion that people choose to be gay, etc
  820. Nan says:
    She’s reading a letter from her pastor, right? Very impressive, supportive.
  821. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    go Unitarian Universal – yaay
  822. Nan says:
    I think maybe he should have written it out beforehand…
  823. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    oh, goody.
    a unitarian.
    love me some unitarians
  824. Closet Mudpup says:
    Mr Anderson — wants his “right” to discriminate on the basis of his religious beliefs protected. Has been fired once … twice … hasn’t learned from either experience.
  825. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    this fellow is really a weirdo.
    a bit deranged me thinks.
  826. GreatGrey says:
    ok.
    just how was this fellow discriminated against in his last job?
    Cause his employer wouldn’t tolerate his anti-gay beliefs.
  827. justafarmer says:
    again, does he have physical evidence he was “put on probation” and “fired” for religious convictions?
    Oh my! he was fired from a SECOND job for religious emails????
    YIKES!!!!
  828. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    this red shirt is one confused puppy.
  829. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    and who gave him that awful red jacket?
  830. califpat says:
    Ken’s red sweater was a dead give away as to where he stood.
  831. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    ok.
    just how was this fellow discriminated against in his last job?
  832. justafarmer says:
    good lordie…red shirt and racing stripes on his sleeves….
  833. GreatGrey says:
    Ken got fired for being discriminatory, so he’s obviously against it. LOL
  834. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    see the fear oozing from this red shirt guy? sad really.
  835. GreatGrey says:
    Ken should have made some notes 🙂
  836. justafarmer says:
    yup Lori. And again, her physical appearance, where did she get off talking about alleged men dressed as women? I feel safe saying that because I’m also “larger than life” in my old age.
  837. Ennealogic says:
    17 – telling us how God looks on us… :p … does not object to ordinance as long as it doesn’t bring detrimental consequences to others, so please don’t pass it until the consequences can be understood; says he has half his comments for, and half against
    18 – in support, says it’s not too soon to deal with the issue; talking about tolerance in a good quote by GWashington; talking about emancipation of blacks. women, how long it took
  838. Trini says:
    Brian Clark. speaks to tolerance. Quotes to George Washington. The ideal of American values of his quotes. Principles of equality must apply to all. (citing to slavery).
  839. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    so very well spoken is this fellow…
    beautiful stars for him.
  840. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    she said a security guard told her there was nothing he could do – ok, bring on that security guard to collaborate her story. not that the good christian lady would lie.
  841. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    good point just a farmer……I suspect her story – make the little girls testify that it happened, ha.
  842. Nan says:
    I kinda liked him.
  843. justafarmer says:
    a purple shirt…hmmm..how to typecast… 🙂
  844. justafarmer says:
    yes, this guy is definitely trying to be moderate, middle of the road, open to discussion.
  845. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    but he may be strething it here to say that they will have to teach homosexuality in schools – this is not true – they did this to us re prop 8 and it is just not true
  846. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    fanskin, he is against this ordiance as written – but he does seem sincere and NOT a bigot
  847. justafarmer says:
    how did the girls KNOW they were men dressed as women and where was MOM?
    I’m not snarking (much) but Mom looked a lot like the master sergeant. So I can also make a snap judgment based on looks?
  848. Canadian Neighbour says:
    It’s a fact that not all women look like that Hollywood Beauty — did she look to actually know they were men in bathroom. Her word – her story – her probably BS
  849. Trini says:
    Kenneth Peterson. He’s kinda funny. He wants to protect the traditional family and “constitutional rights” of religious groups. The ordinance has consequences. Don’t approve it yet, unless consequences can be avoided. He’s on the fence.
  850. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    i like the yellow shirt.
    he is really really trying to do the right thing as he sees it.
  851. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    ok he has read it, has legit questions
  852. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    if he does not know enough about this ordinance, WHY doesn’t he read it? is it not clear?? I am serious here, not being sarcastic.
  853. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    i think that this fellow is sincere…
  854. GreatGrey says:
    Crystal Dyson. Her 2 daughters in the bathroom when 2 guys were in the bathroom and they came out and complained. Why wasn’t she with her girls? I don’t get that.
    It doesn’t ring true, especially the part about contacting security and they did nothing. There are already laws about that kind of activity, and you can bet security was on alert for some Prevocite to do that to make Jerry’s point.
  855. califpat says:
    @Great Grey: I’m thinking flat out blatant lie!!
  856. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    yes, the bathroom story seems very convenient.
  857. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    uh oh – this lady says it was her daughters in the bathroom afraid of men in there dressed as women……..men in bathrooms……well, why does everyone think this law will alllow men in omen’s bathrooms? dumbos.
  858. Ennealogic says:
    [note – room has a lot of red in it now]
    15 – words of doom and bad things to come if the ordinance goes into effect, talks about “lifestyle choice”
    16 – another red shirt, her two daughters in bathroom at last meeting ran into two “guys” who were females (transgendered) and security wouldn’t do anything about it
  859. justafarmer says:
    oooh, a personal story about her daughters in a bathroom but just HER word…
  860. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    i am sad again.
  861. califpat says:
    Jimmy S. What is there to sit down and talk about when you have already made up your mind that sexual orientation is a “choice” and 64 should be slapped down.
  862. Trini says:
    Crystal Dyson. Her 2 daughters in the bathroom when 2 guys were in the bathroom and they came out and complained. Why wasn’t she with her girls? I don’t get that.
  863. GreatGrey says:
    This whole kids in the bathroom story smells of something not good, I’m thinking bad fiction.
  864. justafarmer says:
    oooh redshirt: and she’s a coach…
  865. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    opposes ordiance – will cause division, will discriminate against religious rights – bad legislation -says there is another route to take insteadof having a law, can just work together as leaders – says it is offending too many people. TOO BAD SAYS ME – ever try to just not be ‘offended?”
  866. GreatGrey says:
    Black shirt opposes ordinance just cause he does, nothing specific. Oh, says its divisive.
  867. mlaiuppa says:
    #4 who was given more time? He hung himself. Bringing in necrophilia and beastiality just put him in the whacko nutjob category.
  868. Canadian Neighbour says:
    The ordinance isn’t bad — HE IS
  869. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    this fellow just wants homosexuals to go away and be quiet.
    stay under their rocks.
  870. justafarmer says:
    Jimmy Stewart…a great name, but he doesn’t live up to the name.
  871. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    jimmy stewart resurrects
  872. Ennealogic says:
    13 – veteran, transgender, personal story about changing sex, well spoken, saying the uproar the ordinance has created is plenty of evidence that the ordinance is needed
    14 – ACLU director wearing yellow badge (like others in favor), gave package to clerk of 4 cases where churches complain their rights have been taken away; offers free of charge representation to any religious who can make the case that their rights have been infringed as a result of the ordinance
  873. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    5 stars for the aclu person (that is who he is right?)
  874. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    ordianance will restrict right of churches – NOT TRUE says this speaker.
    good points. he is ACLU I believe. he is doing good job.
  875. justafarmer says:
    and why is he wearing his tie outside of his suitcoat?
  876. Canadian Neighbour says:
    The Lady with the t-shirt who lost her job — I just wanted to give her a hug. I’m actually crying I feel so bad for her. She’s feeling totally defeated.
  877. justafarmer says:
    what’s the yellow button he’s wearing?
  878. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    he has to be an attorney
  879. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    this one is kissing up to panel, watch out.
  880. justafarmer says:
    and brought up a very pertinent point: trans have to live a year in the new gender before the op. And that includes bathrooms.
  881. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    she was lovely and gets 5 stars also too
  882. Trini says:
    Rachael Renin. Very credible transexual. Explains how difficult it is to choose a restroom. “Wash my hands and get out.” And, she is a Christian.
  883. justafarmer says:
    oh, this is good!
  884. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    now up: post op transexual with lots of credentials in the community. very good speaker.
  885. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    there seem to be quite a few transgender ex service men in anchorage.
    i wonder what the statistics are.
  886. justafarmer says:
    oooh Master Sergeant!
  887. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    another landlord up – says that christains should not be forced to violate their religious beliefs. says this is a solution in search of a problem. ungly, uneccessary battle says latest red shirt.
  888. Ennealogic says:
    11th – former ak state trooper, prosecutor, thinks majority will be hurt if ordinance is passed (takes a dig at the ACLU) .. weak
    12th – red shirt, says gays already have rights that the ordinance seeks to give – asks if members of ‘faith community’ should be forced to give rights to gays individually because they can always find someone somewhere to take care of whatever they need
  889. califpat says:
    Jim is a high 5. Clap, clap, clap. Yea!!
  890. justafarmer says:
    sauerkraut, any idea how to clear the cache on a Mac?
    My PC blew up last week and I haven’t got the new PC in place, so I’m on the MacMini tonight.
  891. sauerkraut says:
    anyhow… letterman is on and I wanna see what he’s got to say… much as I want to show my support for the right way to be on 64, it’s depressing to read how mat-su and anchorage is filled with such anti-people aholes.
    nite, peeps. keep up the good fight. do not go gently into that good night.
  892. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    hey, he’s got a pretty red shirt
    he likes gays but doesn’t want the ordinance?
  893. GreatGrey says:
    justafarmer Says:
    June 16th, 2009 at 7:22 PM
    oh, he’s a tool…
    His ratchet wrench only spins one way.
  894. sauerkraut says:
    The Assembly president ought to step in and tell people that calling homosexuals perverts and all that garbage amounts to unacceptable hate speech. Enough of that crap already.
  895. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    this guy says there is no problem in anchorage – how can he think that after hearing the landlord admit he ill not rent to gay people? now he says men went into bathroom and drove a young woman out. uh huh, right. and the gays talk about their sexual escapades. he did not make sense basically.
  896. justafarmer says:
    and he’s wearing a yellow shirt…
  897. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    a bigot for sure…
  898. justafarmer says:
    oh, he’s a tool…
    soon as he mentioned ACLU…
    oh and now he mentions bathrooms…
  899. califpat says:
    That was definitely discrimination against the lady who wore the “Pride” T-shirt.
  900. justafarmer says:
    next speaker, Anchorage resident and former state trooper
  901. sauerkraut says:
    For those of youse with streaming problems… try emptying your cache… or clear your history of sites visited. helps me when I am able to connect.
  902. Trini says:
    Barbara Seefer (sp?) talks about discrimination on her job and once she wore a t-shirt about her orientation, she was fired. They didn’t like her t-shirt that related to her sexual orientation. Someone else at work wore a t-shirt about breast implants. No issue with that.
  903. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    this is a sad story, and I believe her, she is credible
  904. justafarmer says:
    this speaker wore a t-shirt thaat was not acceptable but another co-worker wore a t-shirt that said something about big breasts. jeez..
  905. sauerkraut says:
    71 Canadian Neighbour Says: June 16th, 2009 at 6:24 PM
    strangelet,
    I noticed the ‘higher income bracket’ mention — it was a headshake and a WTH Earth to Prevo Pluto — Yo!
    ___________
    Methinks this prevo dude is more interested in Uranus than in Pluto… surprised austin didn’t catch that. must be distracted by chipmunks… yeah, that’s it! a chipmunk in a red t-shirt!
  906. justafarmer says:
    oh my! t-shirts!
  907. Ennealogic says:
    9th speaker – speaking to reported discrimination, giving numbers from some report; says studies have already been done, no further task force needed
    10th – personal testimony about discrimination in employment due to being homosexual
  908. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    5 stars for ms green and 5 stars for the assembly member who is questioning her
  909. califpat says:
    Another 5 and well presented and represented.
  910. Trini says:
    Melissa Green talks about statistics (huge) of discrimination. (while wearing what looks like a prisoner’s shirt). She asks “how much discrimination is tolerable?”
  911. Canadian Neighbour says:
    I agree Lori as to panel member.
    Nice to see how some have come totally prepared to speak — and copies, CD’s.
  912. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    is this mel?
  913. Ennealogic says:
    8th speaker called back, saying that “separation of church and state is not part of the Constitution” – he says it prevents state from instituting religion but doesn’t prevent religion from influencing state.
  914. seattlefan says:
    justafarmer…the same thing is happening to me. The livestream keeps going out. I livestream stuff all the time and never have these problems.
    I’m giving up and happily reading the commentary our fellow mudflatters are providing. Thanks everyone! Keep it coming.
  915. GreatGrey says:
    He sees separation of church and state as a one way avenue?
    Govt can’t do anything to churches, but churches can dork with govt?
    Well then….
  916. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    good on panel member! points out separation of church and state – got booed by redshirts for pointing out the facts.
  917. justafarmer says:
    weird, I’ve got it back…
  918. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    the chairwoman says, “i appreciate it” after the last man spoke his hatred.
  919. sauerkraut says:
    an army man says …
    doesn’t want his apts rented to homos
    ____________
    Someone ought to check and see if any of his apts are Section 8… that would put him under the federal laws and jurisdiction.
  920. califpat says:
    Believe as I believe or you are dead wrong!
  921. Trini says:
    This guy, Timothy Davis, gives so much importance to religion. Thank God they cut him off!
  922. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    he is all to real, lori
  923. Ennealogic says:
    7th speaker – transgender, provided documentation of her personal discrimination, saying it is not a choice to be transgender, seems to have support from some VA staff
    8th speaker – another pastor (good grief how many churches are in anchorage?) talking about moral fiber talk embedded in US founding documents, quoting something which is too bad. “Sexual preference” can never compare with religion as something to be protected. Good god.
  924. justafarmer says:
    sorry power blipped and I lost my livestream (too many users).
    Will try again in a little while
  925. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    this one up is a pompous ass. so concerned for the christian community, religion is the prerequisite for our Constitution – he is so sure of himself and he is SO WRONG! he does not even understand our constitution at all. he is whining now, a drama king………is he for real?
  926. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    he didn’t have a pure red shirt but a striped red certainly expresses his feelings.
    he is sooooo wrong…this country wasn’t founded on religious grounds
  927. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    what a tough life this woman has…
    and i give her 5 stars and a big hug
  928. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
  929. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    20 hours of testimony ahead says chairwoman. wow. and if more redshirts from Valley sign up tomorrow, what then? this could go on for months.
  930. Closet Mudpup says:
    Good, rational presentation by the Jewish speaker — even cites case law to support his view. Strong testimony.
  931. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    a transgender person…i believe
  932. califpat says:
    @GeatGrey: I concur.
  933. Ennealogic says:
    5th speaker – for the ordinance
    6th speaker – red shirt, but for the ordinance – quoting court case requiring compelling state interest.. referring to state constitution, saying ‘moral integrity’ is not just cause for rejecting equal rights and reminding about necessity to protect minorities
  934. Trini says:
    Just jumped on. Ezekiel rocks!
  935. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    oh, he’s quoting the alaska constitution…
    lovely
  936. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    someone on panel called him very impressive! : )
  937. Snoskred says:
    Ezekiel is so cute on the inside, I will be surprised if he does not get mobbed by the ladies (or perhaps the men, if that is what he is into). 😉
  938. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    yes fawnskin, good catch.
  939. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    definately a five.
    infact, he gets two fives
  940. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    is this guy a lawyer? he is well-spoken and cites court cases – he says “moral integrity” is NOT a basis for discrimination. he gets a 5+ from me.
  941. GreatGrey says:
    This guy gets a 5 too.
  942. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    oh, yeah.
    a jew calling out the christians
  943. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    uh oh…
    this guy is wearing red under black but…..
  944. califpat says:
    @Fawnskin: I agree, definitely a five.
  945. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    she just called 3 names, second one is melissa s. green, likely our mel green, heads up.
  946. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    so many gold stars for elizabeth brant
  947. justafarmer says:
  954. Ennealogic says:
    dear god, 4th speaker saying it’s a slippery street – pedophiles and necrophiliacs and beastiality are all just “sexual orientations”
  955. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    equating pedophiles with homosexuals…this is sick
  956. GreatGrey says:
    Necrophillia? Is this a laundry list of Baptist fantasy land?
  957. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    necrophilliacs???
  958. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    now they are sexual pedophiles. me: most pedophiles are not gay!
  959. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    and they are giving him extra time. wtf.
  963. Ennealogic says:
    1st speaker – pastor, saying this ordinance needs to be delayed to see if it is needed
    2nd speaker – pregnant woman, self-described christian, for the ordinance, she will have no trouble telling her children that it is okay if other people do not act/believe as they do
    3rd speaker – very fast speaking red shirt talking about how deviant homosexuals are, quoting a slew of very questionable statistics about disease, crime, etc..
    4th speaker – retired us army colonel, landlord, says he’s worried about his tenants who might not want to live next door to homosexuals, conflating them with bad credit risks, drug users, unmarried couples, doesn’t want to be sued for not renting to ‘objectionable’ people
  964. califpat says:
    @ Fawnskin: It appears that we are far and in between up North. Just maybe we have the Palin syndrome.
  965. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    here is a landlord. he rents to hetrosexual couples, militay – and they will not rent if he has a homosexual in the building…he should have a right to discriminate based on his morality. he kindly allows females and people of color, how big of him.
  966. fawnskin mudpuppy says:
    this is soooooo difficult to listen to.
    i don’t know how long i’ll be able to hang in here.
  967. GreatGrey says:
    I did!
    RT @GoldieAZ: Stop misogyny against ALL women, not just the 1 you favor politically, ALL women respected or no woman is! // even the gaiis?
    BTW, when I see one of the Prevocites read from a laptop, I automatically wonder who wrote their spiel for them.
    And hey, Prevo said in his letter that gaiis have generally higher income, so letting em your neighborhood would raise property values, wouldn’t it?
  968. Aussie Blue Sky says:
    Great idea to throw Prevo over the edge. A pair of Mommy Chickens & the pair of male penquins!!!
    1) My dog Hogger is still limping but he managed to jump the backyard fence this morning, so he must be doing ok.
    2) I have baby chickens!!! There are several different age batches, but I bring this up because it’s sorta peripherally relevant. There are three chicks who hatched out a couple of weeks ago and have two moms. The two hens shared the same nest the entire time, tag-teaming do to speak. Now that the babies have hatched, the two hens are very protective and don’t have a problem sharing mommy duties.
  1002. strangelet says:
    You know, I’ve been dead straight my whole life, but this “higher income bracket” concept is intriguing. Perhaps I should write for more details….
  1003. Ennealogic says:
    I don’t get how Prevo’s freedom of religion is threatened, unless his religion involves doing wrong to others. Nobody has the “freedom” to force others to act or think or believe as they do or else be ostracized in society. What kind of freedom is that? No one has the right to exercise a “freedom” that requires we acknowledge them as superior and anyone else as inferior.
    Prevo’s ego has outgrown his shell by several measures.
  1004. seattlefan says:
    Hahahah! I’m watching Greta and they’re showing the protestors at the Letterman studio. What a bunch of wackos! Reminds of of her rally people and the tea baggers. There is some lady going on and on about women. These kooks are really something.
    ***************************************************
    Last week AKM mentioned being outside and took pictures of that. Not sure of the status this week.
    Lori – remind me – did we start this early last week ?? And dinner……I’m sorry , I’ve had dinner and am well into my bottle of Little Penguin Chardonnay. Did it while posting. Can’t these people multi-task ??
  1006. justafarmer says:
    I’m back!
    There were at least two tornadoes. I’m a severe weather spotter for NWS, so have been on the phone with them. They’ve given me an assignment to document storm damage (which apparent is really bad) when the sun comes up in the morning, so I won’t be able to stay up as late tonight as I did last week.
    Last measurement on the rain gauge is 3/4 inch of rain in 35 minutes; that’s flash flood levels.
  1007. Closet Mudpup says:
    Well, I’ll admit – this was fun. Here’s Prevo’s announcement – somewhat revised…
    FOR THE SAKE OF OUR CHILDREN, GRANDCHILDREN, INTELLECTUAL FREEDOM, SCHOOLS, AND THE ARTS, WE MUST STOP THIS NEW ORDINANCE IN ANCHORAGE!! “CONSERVATIVE CHRISTIAN” IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE, MORAL LIFESTYLE. IT IS DISEASED AND HATEFUL. BAPTISTS ARE TRYING TO FORCE US TO ADOPT THEIR BELIEFS INSTEAD OF JUST ACCEPTING THEM IN SPITE OF THEIR BELIEFS. BAPTISTS ARE NOT BEING DEPRIVED OF JOBS, PLACES TO LIVE OR LOANS. THEY HOLD HIGH POLITICAL OFFICES, WELL-PAYING CORPORATE POSITIONS, AND ARE, AS A WHOLE, IN A HIGHER INCOME BRACKET.
    The Conservative Christians on the Anchorage Assembly are trying to pass an ordinance to give “special rights” to Baptists, Evangelicals, Joel’s Army, and of all things, Witch Hunters. Last week we surprised them with an overwhelming number of people there in opposition, but they do not believe we can sustain these numbers. They feel like we are a bunch of wimps when it comes to fighting for what is right. To make it even harder, they have scheduled, in addition to the Tuesday night meeting, a special Wednesday night meeting. I am calling off our regular poetry reading Wednesday so we can overwhelm them again on Wednesday night. This is how important this issue is to defeat.
  1008. teutonic13 says:
    Empowerment is a funny thing…. Never enlightens the RIGHT folks 🙂
    My encouragement to ya’all from Texas.
    There is no perversion in sexuality unless one party transgresses the other’s ability to choose for oneself.
    All about choice and freedom to live.
    Pastor Jerry Prevo probably will end up being revealed- as so many of his other self righteous bretheren, as being some sort of cheat, liar, or sex offender. All of them seem to eventually fail their flock.
  1009. John says:
    Dinner break, time for Mr. Birch to lobby more. Glad you made it in this week AKM!
  1010. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    20 minute break – I will do same and hope to see you all later. ciao for now.
  1014. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    someone should make a motion AGAIN to allow only Anchorage residents to testify. It would be priceless to see the red shirts shown the door.
  1015. seattlefan says:
    Does anyone know if they bussed the kids in again? I just read Prevo’s letter and am astounded at how backassward and hateful this guy (and probably his followers) is.
    I clicked on the link. Is this live or last weeks? I’m confused.
  1016. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    MelGreen, I look forward to your testimony and appreciate your dedication.
  1017. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    OmegaMom yes, I agree. Surprised they allowed testimony from the Valley Fundies, but I still think they do more to help the cause than hurt it.
  1018. Canadian Neighbour says:
    Lori in Los Angeles,
    “maybe if they actually read it”
    —–
    They only read the cherry picked cliff notes you use in school!!
  1019. OmegaMom says:
    I’m still wondering why all these NON-Anchorage folks think their opinion matters for an ANCHORAGE ordinance? Gah.
    If they have enough people to testify, the discussion and vote will be postponed again…and again…and again. Which might be their strategy. At some point, the city council needs to put its collective foot down and say only Anchorage voters can testify.
  1020. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    Prevo: “We need to show the Assembly Members the voters of Anchorage will not tolerate this scourge.” Won’t tolerate? Won’t go with the rule of law if not in their favor? Are these people armed?
  1022. Lori in Los Angeles says:
    Prevo told them to bring a book to read, he must be slipping – did not ORDER THEM to bring the bible to read? Oops, maybe if they actually read it, they would see how Jesus really behaved and what he actually taught – love and tolerance.
  1023. I.m so glad AKM got a hold of such a letter, got to buzz it up.
John also has posted two sets of transcripts from last weeks testimony. That’ll keep you occupied until tonight’s testimony begins.
