Open Thread – The Juneau Maverick Officially Dry Docked?

As reports and pictures continue to pour in from Mudflatters in Fairbanks, I’m compiling them all.  While you wait, here’s an open thread.

You may be wondering why with the Wasilla Governor’s picnic, and the Anchorage Governor’s picnic, and the Fairbanks governor’s picnic….there’s no Juneau Governor’s picnic?  It is the state capital after all.

Maybe they don’t want to answer the question, “What if you threw a picnic and nobody came?”  Or maybe the governor is supposed to actually be in Juneau enough so that people actually feel like they have some face time.  Since that’s obviously not the case with this particular governor, we’ll have to go with theory #1.

And what’s to become of Alaska’s most infamous maverick?  A mavericky Juneau Mudflatter sent this lovely metaphorical photo.

  1. Governor (and Presidential) web sites disappear the day the new person takes office. It happened with Knowles, Murkowski and now Palin. In each case the Alaska State Library has preserved the Governor’s websites. Before Palin, this was on CD/DVD, but the Palin archive is available online at http://www.archive-it.org/collections/1200. Press releases can be found at http://wayback.archive-it.org/1200/20090726150205/http://gov.state.ak.us/news.php.

I started to get hungy, and began hunting for a fast food joint to get something to eat! I am often hunting in my local supermarket for what to fix for dinner. Never carried a gun in there, as it freaks folks out.

True, but since he has already pretty much confirmed that he will be keeping the same people that Sarah appointed/selected, I would doubt he’d go back on that now, but since he’s the Governor and she isn’t any longer, who knows what will happen. Personally, I think he’ll keep the same people at least until this term is over, and then if he wins in the next election, he might replace people who would be more loyal to him. Time will tell.

    _______________

She has plenty of people in the administration that are loyal to her. She hand picked most of them & Parnell is keeping them all, and while it isn’t legal for her to be able to access state government business now, all it would take would be to do a copy & paste onto a private email account and send it along to her and she would still be “in the loop”.

Someone might want to do a screen capture seeing as how the Pac is directing people to the AFT site to give money for a ” legal defense fund ” and the purpose ( legality ) of the Trust is still in question. And it shows a connection or link to the Pac.

    ____________

Done with date and time attached, and I have done the same with the AFT so we can show that she is still soliciting funds for it, and doing so using her title to do so (although she might be in the clear using that title since technically she could still be considered “Governor” as she did hold that title, not sure of the “rules” as far as that goes).

Scrubbing of the State of Alaska Website!!

While I am not surprised that Palin would go to these lengths to keep her hate undercover I must say I am really surprised that the State is ALLOWING this scrubbing to occur! This is absolutely dishonest and a deliberate attempt to keep things from the people.

I am absolutely appalled that this is sanctioned by the State!

  13. honestyinGov says:

I was sort of curious to see if SarahPac had the verbiage Gov. of Alaska on their webpage. There is nothing that refers to her as Governor.
There is this little statement in a text box at the bottom of the page.

“Visit The Alaska Fund Trust at www the alaska fund trust.com, the official legal defense fund for Governor Sarah Palin and family.”

Someone might want to do a screen capture seeing as how the Pac is directing people to the AFT site to give money for a ” legal defense fund ” and the purpose ( legality ) of the Trust is still in question. And it shows a connection or link to the Pac.

  14. Ginger says:

I just watched Sarah do her speech, when she licks her lips it reminds me of a snake because she kinda sticks her tongue out quickly or something, I don’t know but snake came to mind. You know how you can sometimes meet an attractive person but the minute they open their mouth they become ugly, her facial expressions are sometimes quite scarry. What is this woman and who are her followers? She has such beautiful children, I just can’t imagine what they must go through. Ok I will stop now.

Taking FULL advantage of the Open Thread…

My folks lived in the Yukon (Whitehorse) and AK (Fairbanks) in the mid-40s, mid-50s; 4 of us 5 kids were born up there. Ah, the stories they tell…

Anyway, fast-forward half-a-century… My eldest brother was in Iraq (w/ US State Dept), where, about 8-months ago, he met a young soldier from AK who had heard, apparently, that my family had spent some years ‘up north.’ Young soldier approached my brother and said that his grandparent’s wedding photo (one he’d looked at daily, growing up) had “Bennett” written on it…could my brother possibly be kin to *that* Bennett? Yup, he *was* kin – my brother was “that” Bennett’s son.

[Back story: To make a bit of extra money, Mom and Dad made and sold mastadon ivory & gold nugget jewelry. (As had my Mom’s Dad, before her.) They also turned Dad’s hobby, photography, into a source of extra income – they took portraits of babies, brides, bridal couples, and of any one else who wanted to have their picture made. They made, literally, hundreds of portraits while ‘up there’.]

It just struck me as such a neat, “it’s a small world” moment that my brother and this ‘kid’ from AK should meet in Iraq and have, in common, a wedding portrait of the young soldier’s grandparents! I mean, what are the odds?

So, my question to Mudflatters: Do any of you happen to have a portrait -of yourself, sibling(s), parent(s), and/or grandparent(s)- made by “Bennett” in the mid-40s, mid-50s?

My Mom (now 92) was tickled hearing about the young soldier’s grandparent’s photo; I’m sure she’d be *really* tickled to hear about any other ones [portraits taken by my Dad] still out there. Do any of you happen (or know of anyone who happens) to have one, and if so, would you be kind enough to share your info about it with me so I can pass it on to her? [I’m at beth.renots at yahoo dot com] Thanks, beth.

How did you find out this info..AWESOME news, is she gonna create a new twitter page or is she gonna change her user name and keep the same followers? So tell us…how do you know about her new twitter info??

    Robert_Paulson,  July 27, 2009 2:20 PM
    Lakerfan —

there are legal problems with her keeping the same page.

It can be argued that the AKGOVSarahPalin twitter identity and following was created using state resources. That despite the service being free, the identity and all that goes with it don’t belong to her.

I think that to be on the safe side, the Gov is doing the right thing by creating a new identity. Believe it or not, she’ll probably get lots of help from the media in advertising it.

    CruelaDev,  July 27, 2009 1:58 PM

Califpat, this was just a joke going back and forth because Lynnrockets wanted to apply for the Hollywood circus as a clown. I invited Lynnrockets to Fawnskin’s and Lori in LA’s without asking, just to make fun of the Hollywood area $P seems to hate because of Ashley Judd raising money because of hunting wolves from helicopters.

(Therefore the mentions of big shoes, buzzer, etc. by Lynnrockets.)

  27. Lori in Los Angeles says:

honestyinGov – we just do not know re Palin coming or not coming to the Reagan Museum. As usual she is a “maybe yes,” and “maybe no” so she can throw a tantrum when they have to find a replacement at last minute. We now question this appearance because yesterday, after Govs picnic, both her dad and Meg said of the Simi Valley event: “It is not confirmed yet.” WTF? The $150 tickets to the “no Press except Zeigler” event are sold out and the Republican Women’s Group has been promoting her and the event. She is the epitome of rudeness and self-importance. Who, in their right mind, would invite her to speak anywhere? If she is a no-show, it would not be the first time she just “stands up” her “date” and reneges on her obligations. What a maverick, huh?

I also think we all need to be aware of what she is up to or we all just may of wished we had as she will sneak in a back door when we are not prepared.I think she can do real damage with her innuendos and lies,All it takes is running around the country and getting folks that are hurting to follow her.I think it would be a mistake to just say good by and let it go at that.

  104. Well, the TV signal has left because of storms, but we still have internet. So I went on Huff Post and found out that the DEMS have caved again!!!! Taking out the Public Option of the Health Reform Bill. This was the Senate finance Committee. So I looked up the member page of the committee site and emailed everyone of them the following.

“Please do not let the committee drop the Public Option from health reform. I do not trust the private companies to keep any promises to individuals or groups. I have been on the wrong side, to often, of their polices. If there is not a Public Option, I fear there will be no reason for private health insurers or the drug companies from raising their prices again and again.

I have HCV, a chronic illness. I was once on Blue Cross Blue Shield. When I started having more costly care, they started refusing everything. I had to fight for them to pay anything. The cost of my insurance went up catastrophically. I had to go on Medicare. I have received excellent care on that.

Please put the Public Option back in. It is up to the individual to consider it, giving more choice than the private companies actually let the public have.”

Will it help? I don’t know. But maybe . . I can hear the storms. Will put this on before I lose the computer.

SP reminds me of a dean I had in college. The dean was a really credentialed and respected man and all his collegues and students liked him. Well half way through the semester the dean would stop in our classes unannounced and would make off the wall remarks and act wierdly like sitting in the class and laughing at nothing. I thought to myself, this guy seems to becoming unstable but nobody else seem to notice his odd behavior and they treated him as if his odd behavior was normal. This went on for some time and I kept thinking this guy is going over the deep end with his inappropriate behavior. Then one day he bought party invitations to school and started passing them out to everyone, students, non-students, and staff, to come to his house for a party. It was then and only then did other staff members realize that the dean was suffering from a form of dementia. Of course Sarah isnt credentialed but the MSM are treating her bizarre behaviors as if they were normal. They treat them as mavericky or heroic. I wonder when they will realize that this woman is in the throes of a nervous break down or some mental disorder? It boggles the mind that they have not picked up on this. Sheesh!!

I was suppose to head home today after being delayed in Fairbanks for a week and am now delayed again from returning home. Though it is for a good reason my husband is getting a break so he gets to come home for a week. He has not been home in 4 months.
I moved to a different hotel today and it figures the internet is good but they don’t have MSNBC… waaa

    Associated Press – July 27, 2009 6:34 PM ET

—“FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) – New Alaska Gov. Sean Parnell is spending his first full day in office meeting with locals in Fairbanks, including ministers, community leaders and the editorial board of the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner.

Parnell, who inherited the job with Sarah Palin’s Sunday resignation, met Monday morning with more than 50 ministers.

Spokesman Dave Murrow says the breakfast meeting focused on how to align nonprofit resources to community needs such as feeding hungry people and dealing with domestic abuse…”—

Hey! Isn’t this the kind of idea Obama had while he was on the campaign trail? I remember him talking about involving churches to help raise funds and feed the needy….not a bad idea, unless he’s going to be distracted by religious political pressures – hope not!

  147. AKPetMom says:

I have to sum up my feelings before I go back to my flu bed.

Sarah Palin is unintelligent and incapable.

I was very disappointed when she was elected Mayor of my town.

I was even more disappointed when she was elected Governor of my State.

I was even MORE disappointed when McCain picked her as running mate for the highest office of my Country.

Right now, I’m still disappointed because even though she has resigned she has left behind a cadre of appointees, committee members and other loyalists that will prevent Parnell from governing on his own terms.

In 2010 Alaska needs to finally make the right decision and elect a completely Palin-free candidate as Governor. We need to put someone in the office that respects it and can do the job and can clean all of the dark corners of the administration and insure that the office of Governor is finally a “Palin-Free-Zone”.

Had to rant, but crap, let’s get the Maverick and all of her “barnacles” out of Juneau FOREVER!

About Alaska governor’s picnics & Juneau. I don’t ever remember a governor’s picnic held in Juneau – they traditionally happen in Anchorage & Fairbanks. The fact in the last couple years there’s been on in Wasilla is odd, and not traditional.

In Juneau one enjoys the annual Juneau Democratic Picnic, traditionally held during the last half of August (8/23 this year) — always a great, well attended event at Sandy Beach in Douglas.

  164. Husky82 – I think the media should boycott her. I was listening to Pat Buchanan on Hardball and his voice is as shrill as Sarah Palin’s. They are hard on the ears.

She loves Alaaasssskkkkaaaa, but she wants to dig it up, drill it up, fence it up with pipelines (some of which we could use here in Southcentral for NatGas), kill up all the predators, starve the natives so big business commercial fishing industry can survive. God, she is all over the map.

Suffice it to say, she does NOT love Alaska for the same reasons I do, regardless of her twit rant whilst driving her RV up Parks Hwy by McKinley and then waxing poetic re: frost heaves and wildflowers while listening to “Redneck Woman” by Gretchen Wilson in an RV filled with coffee and kids….

    Ok, I’ll stop.

not only did the writer edit palin’s word-salad of a speech, but she even glamorized palin’s going away outfit. No, Ms MUrphy, Palin was not wearing “a conservative black suit”.
She donned a black jacket over jeans to honor the incoming governor.

  182. Hedgewytch says:

I guess Sarah’s Dad never read her Robert Service’s poem “The Quitter”.

    The Quitter
    Robert Service
When you’re lost in the Wild, and you’re scared as a child,
And Death looks you bang in the eye,
And you’re sore as a boil, it’s according to Hoyle
To cock your revolver and . . . die.
But the Code of a Man says: “Fight all you can,”
    And self-dissolution is barred.
In hunger and woe, oh, it’s easy to blow . . .
    It’s the hell-served-for-breakfast that’s hard.

“You’re sick of the game!” Well, now, that’s a shame.
You’re young and you’re brave and you’re bright.
    “You’ve had a raw deal!” I know—but don’t squeal,
Buck up, do your damnedest, and fight.
It’s the plugging away that will win you the day,
So don’t be a piker, old pard!
Just draw on your grit; it’s so easy to quit:
    It’s the keeping-your-chin-up that’s hard.

    It’s easy to cry that you’re beaten—and die;
    It’s easy to crawfish and crawl;
But to fight and to fight when hope’s out of sight—
Why, that’s the best game of them all!
And though you come out of each gruelling bout,
All broken and beaten and scarred,
Just have one more try—it’s dead easy to die,
    It’s the keeping-on-living that’s hard.

So, first it was the refrigerator magnet words of wisdom in the July 3rd speech. And now yesterday’s speech featured quotes from a bumper sticker and a t-shirt.

So that’s what Pallin meant when she told Katie Couric that she read “all of them.”

So the media has been making stuff up??? If anything, the media has been leaving detailed info out of their reports and Palin should actually be grateful for that, even though many of us here have been frustrated with the lack of information in some of the news reports.

I think Palin is going to experience a backlash for the media comments she made yesterday. What I hope is that the media will cough up more facts and start researching blogs like this one so they can report accurate information in great detail!!! Either that or they can just post a headline and the body of the copy simply directs readers to themudflats.net!

Oh, and one more thing…how many times can the Quitter say military??? She almost sounds like she thinks the military is fighting for her and her needs alone! Like they’re fighting for her special, warped 1st amendment right…the right to have printed only her versions of what she does and who she is, not reality.

(Dân trí) – bang female Alaska governor Sarah Palin that she not only continues to pursue politics but also to plan the “Vocational entry” to the fight for the country since the end of this month.

“I will on behalf of the candidates believe in right, regardless what party they belong to, to go across the country,” she said in an interview with the Sunday Times tờ Washington.

Ms. Palin made the comments as well as the league’s surprise on 3 / 7 when the last statement will be from the State governor. Governor Palin will not have a plan to re-election and that is not fair when you still know right after the failed election in the 2008’s. Instead, she will retire on 26 / 7 and to pursue a career in country size. But she does not know for the development of the election campaign in 2012 or not.

Ms. Palin protected from the decision by his statement “reality, Alaska on good will, “she states, if not time for the complaints of ethics aimed at her. She also said that since the plan was considered for many months now.

Consult Dr. John McCain, who chose Palin as the “colossus” in the campaign’s election last year, also received the rumor that Mrs. Palin will reject political.

“I do not think she will reject it,” McCain said. “I think she might just change your priorities.”

However she now Palin will not specify the priority that is nothing.

“I will not remove anything. This is my way of life as a child, “she said in an interview with the Washington Times. “Let me out of here and see if there is the door open elsewhere. And even if a little light, I hope will be the last turn. ”

Mother’s family also plans to write a book signing. However she declined to discuss the ability to have a contract to become a comment on television. “I can not talk about this when I made the governor,” she said.

But she found that she also want to double the party and of the family. “Everyone was too tired to party with the right, even my son, nor republican,” she said.

Like his father, Track Palin, 20 years old, registered “not by any party in Alaska .

Buffalo has one of the most beautiful park systems you’ll ever find , designed by Frederick Olmsted , famous for designing Central Park and Prospect Park, as well as many others in US cities. We also have a city filled with ancient trees. They’re simply stunning and , for those of us that are tree spirit lovers, they also seem wise, somehow. (truth be told, i talk to them on my walks. )

Anyway, 2 years ago we got hit with an ice storm that took out too, too many of our old trees – trees that had been here when it was all Seneca and Iroquois Indian land. It broke my heart. I might sound “soft” to some but I’ve never really gotten over it and still grieve their leaving and the change in the landscape that I’ve known for 47 years.

Today, a neighbor who was unhappy with autumn leaves piling up on the lawn decided that one of our oldest trees had to go. Since 7am I’ve been listening to them chain saw this grand testament to our history, bit by bit. We’re going on 9 hours now so that gives you an idea of how big this is. Was. Each piece was then fed into a chipper. Pieces so big it took 2, 3 and 4 burly, cursing, spitting men to feed it through. I used to play around that tree and climb it every chance I had.

This doesn’t necessarily directly connect with Palin but in a way, it felt like it did. Her view of wolves, drilling, environment, Native cultures, etc. seemed to be there with every branch that came down. Not sure that makes sense but, being as it’s an open thread I thought I’d toss it out there because I just had to go somewhere with it.

As I said, I started having doubts about her before McCain picked her, but the 2008 campaign was the last straw. I hated the way she demonized her opponents. It made me sick to hear her claim that the only “real Americans” were the ones who thought like her. She was treated unfairly by the press at times, but a mature Christian should have known better than to respond in kind.”
