  1. Claw Washout Palin says:

She should not have trashed, Hollywood. They will now do a documentary about her. Starring, Ashley Judd. The media will play this for all it’s worth. Shatner is just the beginning.

  2. nswfm CA says:

    The Birkenstocks are a bonus.

  3. trisha says:

    This was hilarious.

  4. let it run says:

IMO this tweeter read was better than the first one. Shatner is more into it. My guiessis they lay lwo until she makes some supremely incoherent statements. Is that possible?

  5. @SouthernMiss #13 – I image her screaming at the TV. Ranting and raving about Hollywood and the media all making a fool of her.

  6. clydedog says:

In the 70s I had a boot leg album and between songs there were Star Trek bloopers for some reason. Shatner and Nimoy were yucking it up pretty good. It was a great contrast to their roles on the show.

  7. The Right Reverend says:

Tizzielish, you just have to listen to any of her speeches to know she doesn’t know how out of touch she iss. Palin blames everyone but herself for any shortcoming. She’s proud of her so-called “tell it like it is” attitude while having nothing to back it up. No facts, no education, nothing but winks and sound-bytes. For crying out loud, all she had to do after Nov. 4th was turn on the TV and listen to any number of talking heads giving her free advice to be considered a serious political contender (hit the books, do some real work, govern well, be consistent). But she couldn’t be bothered with any of that. Instead, she goes the opposite direction, lashing out at any slight, making pointless appearances (and arbitrarily cancelling others), and ignoring her job…
Then, with her popularity crashing, she takes the coward’s route and quits rather than dig in harder (the latter, incidentally, being more free advice from the MSM’s talking heads).

It’s a wonder she can do her hair and makeup at all before blathering at a podium, considering the giant blind spot she sees whenever she looks in the mirror.

  8. strangelet says:

I’ve liked Shatner ever since I realized he was a comedian, which really changed my opinion of some Star Trek episodes. I think his gig with Ben Folds may have set him up perfectly to be the interpreter-of-XGINO in free verse. If Conan keeps it up, it’s remotely possible that she may stop tweeting.
If she doesn’t stop, well, more laughs for us.

However, even though I am not a big C&W fan (in the sense that Ben Nelson is not a big fan of abolishing health insurance companies), I do know that “Big and Rich” is a (slightly out of date) hat act, and Bill maybe shouldn’t have rolled his eyes at it.

  9. tizzielish says:

. . . . on second thought, I wonder if Palin feels insulted by these Shatner bits. Maybe she is so far gone that she doesn’t get how hilariously idiotic her tweets are.

I am reminded an an old Saturday Night Life sketch. Gilda Radner played the daughter of some awful parents and the whole family is seeing a psychiatrist. The parents (the dad was Bill Murray) talk over her, on and on, uttering ridiculous things but they keep saying the problem is the kid . . . the kid, Radner, just sits there with her head bobbing, she keeps looking at mom, then at dad, then back at mom, obviously confused and you realize the poor kid is stuck in a crazy nightmare family and the poor kid has no hope of being sane with these loonie toon parents. . . and the whole time the parents are sure the kid is the problem. . . .

maybe Palin is like the character Radner played, crazy loonie without a hope of being coherent . . .but, thankfully, the kid is so out of it that she’s happy, she is too far gone to know she is hopelessly loonie-tunes.

Palin might not realize how hopelessly out of touch she is with coherent reality.

  10. tizzielish says:

I bet these Shatner bits are enraging Palin. She must be spitting nickels. She can’t accuse them of making stuff up: they quote her verbatim. They don’t poke fun at her.

This is absolutely perfect satire. She does all the work of demonstrating that she is a mindless loon.

and, yes, the guy on the bongos was extra fun in this segment Palin poetry segment. It almost seemed like he could feel Palin’s anger when each thump of the bongo. Isn’t it hilarious how that bongo perfectly emphasizes the nuttiness of her words?

  11. daMamma says:

Can’t wait for the next installment of (P’s) Poetry as spoken by Bill Shatner.

  12. VernD says:

I heard that it’s blocked due to “copyright Infringement” accusations.
    Hmmmmmmm……

  13. Quetzalcoatl says:

    OHhhhhhhhhh

    the nbc link is zorched.

Here’s one from the Tonight Show.

    What a laugh riot.

  14. Ripley in CT says:

This is really priceless, with Shatner. If everyone in the universe doesn’t find this funny, they are broken.

  15. MinNJ says:

My cousin’s husband is from Pittsburgh, and I will be thinking of you the entire time, enviously.

  16. MinNJ says:

austintx: no kidding! Holy cr@p, amazing. Well, he has a job. The one I had envisioned for him had a lot of red-horned creatures around him.

Oh I love it that she no longer has a platform to pi$$ from.

  19. sauerkraut says:

If Conan keeps this up, how will Dave respond? By bringing in Nimoy?

  20. Lori in Los Angeles says:

“He (Bernanke) must be talking about the 9% that think the audit is a bad idea.”

Count me in the 9%. In precarious economic times, a bank may show low reserves (depending on loans out and loans due). An audit, made public, could show a bank bordering on insolvency one week (causing a bank run or upsetting markets ) and two weeks later (as loans due are re-paid) the same bank is solidly solvent. I understand the public’s concern, but where were the demands for these audits when Bush was President (especially during the Fall of 2008)? The Federal Reserve is doing a delicate balancing act right now.

  21. Karin in CT says:

My mom and I can’t stand the guy but we LOVE him now for this!

Jack Handley’s (?) “Deep Thoughts” may have some competition.

  24. SystemBucker says:

HA-HA-HA! Thanks AKM! I needed a good laugh. I’m still chuckling over the last phrase…no rain means no rainbows…deep man, really deep! lol

Just caught this on Huffpo and it is hilarious. Not enough that William Shatner turned Sarah Palin’s Resignation speech into poetry, Conan O’brien turned him loose on her tweets!! The bongo and bass players are even more into it!!

Please note the time I entered this comment on the open thread this morning. Nobody seemed to pick up on it until AKM did. Neener, neener, neener. I got to ROFLMAO much sooner than you did! Again William Shatner goes where no man has gone before!

  31. London Bridges says:

Is Shatner one of those Hollywood Starlets of which Sarah spoke of?

  32. Donald from Hawaii says:

Sheer comedic genius. “No rain, no rainbow.” Simply priceless.

  33. AKaurora says:

Denny Crane acknowledged his “mad cow” issues, more than can be said of Sarah Palin. Yes, her mind is wired differently.

  34. winkwink says:

Hilarious!! Sarah Palin Speech Generator –http://www.cricketschirping.com/jsmarkov/palin.html — Found this in the comments section (about Sarah’s ethics) in the Juneau Empire.

  35. BBHounds says:

I’d love to seen the rehearsals. The guys in the background can’t keep their faces straight.

  36. Women Who Run With The Wolves says:

Capt. James T. Kirk, aka Denny Crane OMG! It took him having abs. of steel to keep a straight face while reading her poetry. Gee, where have we heard that phrase before? Ok, maybe he does not have abs. of steel, but he sure does have the intestinal fortitude to read that garbage. The woman is CRAZY!

  37. lissa says:

Awesome funny! Keep it coming Conan!

  39. Seagull Junker Palin says:

Idiocy has no “sell by date”

    This will continue….

  40. seattlefan says:

This is absolutely hilarious! Shatner may become a regular on the Toight Show doing this if she continues to tweet. Brilliant….Denny Crane channeling Palin. Couldn’t be more funny. The bongos are the icing on the cake.

  41. Fantastic! Love the guy’s expression on the bongos. He seemed to enjoy it even more this time.

And really, at least it sounds better coming out of Shatner’s mouth than out of SP with her irritating voice.

  42. SouthernMiss says:

Oh to have been a fly on the wall when $arah found out about Shatner’s “beat poetry” interpretation of her speech and her tweets. lol Please, please, Conan and Captain Kirk (my first crush), make this a weekly gift to the public……

  43. clydedog says:

Love the bongos. $P should use them when she speaks.

  44. austintx says:

Texas Tech gave Gonzales a job……….they might hire her.

  45. jc in co says:

Now that Boston Legal is off the air Shatner can get a job traveling around with her being the “official wordsalad/palinese translator” sort of like those hearing impaired translators down in the corner of your tv screen Between his priceline negotiator gig and translating he’ll do quite well for himself.

  46. chuck tatum says:

She’s a poet and she don’t know it.

That’s the kind way to say she’s a batsh!t-crazy whackjob.

  47. pvazwindy says:

Do you think she gets it? I’ll answer that, NO!

  48. John says:

Well if she were a college professor, she would have to teach Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail. Oh, wait, she already did that.

    Shattner is a genius.

  49. C.Rock says:

    WICKED ! !

  50. jojobo1 says:

At least I got to see this before NBC put a block on it. Star Trek was one of my favorite shows,Wish we could bring Spock in he would be hilarious

  51. texdude says:

    No rain, no rainbow.

Priceless. The philosopher from Spencer’s Gifts.

  52. Candy Knight says:

According to the latest Fox News poll, a staggering 10% of Americans think the best job for Palin (now that she has resigned her crown) is “college professor.” After listening to this, I’m thinking they see her teaching poetry? Or perhaps Advanced Lying? Fear Mongering 101? Demagoguery for Dummies?

  53. Carol.Seattle says:

Even better than when he did Star Trek… the man’s a genius for what he was able to do with that material!

  54. The Rubber Room Hotel says:

I love this, comic genius, Thanks AKM.
