MUDFLIX – My Fellow American

I thought this video was poignant and well done, and the audio commentary is jarring to say the least. The website My Fellow American is worth checking out and includes a feature that allows you to share your own stories. Certainly many Muslim-Americans are native born, but thinking about the immigrant population and our recent holiday put me in mind of this quote from Eleanor Roosevelt: We Americans are well aware that this is not a one-sided relationship. We are offering you a home and a haven, to be sure. However, you… are bringing us your skills, your talents, and…

Open Thread – Evening Glow

Beautiful glow on the mountains tonight. This picture was taken at about 11:30pm as the sun was setting. The colors looked just as surreal as they do here.

Open Thread – The Walk Back

Happy 4th!  I hope you are all enjoying yourselves in the real world, and in this virtual one. Last night we walked down the length of my driveway, enjoying some of the beautiful things to be seen. Tonight, if you’re rested up, we’ll take the trip back. It really is the peak of the season for wildflowers in this neck of the woods. There are a few late bloomers that haven’t come out yet, and we’ve missed a few of the early alpine bloomers on the higher elevations, but for me, this time of year can’t be beat for variety,…

Open Thread – Nature Walk on the Driveway

Before we begin, may I be the first to wish you all a Happy Alaskan Independence Day. Yes, it was on July 3, 2009 that Sarah Palin announced she’d be stepping down from the job that she hated for the good of the state. I thought about writing something up about that, and then decided I’d much rather take a walk and remind myself of the things I like about Alaska, and not the Quitter, nor her successor who is even worse. Open Thread – Munching

I was hanging out on the deck today, and was there quite a while before I noticed Brian was hanging out in the yard being lazy and content, and munching on the grass. He’s got a nice velvety rack coming in and appeared completely blissed out, enjoying the day.  A handsome fellow, indeed.

Open Thread – Clouds

Here’s my first delayed post from Netroots Nation. Things have been non-stop and completely crazy here in Minneapolis. I’m hoping to catch up and fill you in on the goings on tomorrow. I have finally figured out how to resize, save, find, and post pictures using my new laptop, so it won’t be long! The weather in Minneapolis has been really great. Sometimes it’s been just a tad warm and humid, but there have been a couple brilliant thunderstorms. Thunder and lightning is not something one often sees in Anchorage, so I’ve had a great time sort of lurking around…
