Open Thread – Brian Goes Bard, and We Go Netroots!
~Brian attends The Taming of the Shrew (photo from Mudflatter Jimzmum) Did we ever doubt that Brian the Moose was a fan of the Bard? While our blog moosecot was busy soaking up some culture en plein air, progressive blogger types in Alaska have been scuttling around with suitcases. It’s that time of year again – the annual gathering of the online progressive community – Netroots Nation. It’s three days of panel discussions, workshops, films, presentations, and awesome speakers. And of course there will be networking galore, and a chance to catch up with old friends. And we can’t forget…
Open Thread – Dogwood Flowers
Not the kind that grow on trees – these are the dainty alpine dogwood, which grow close to the ground. Each blossom is about the size of a quarter. There’s a big patch blooming out back. You may see more of these before I’m through.
Open Thread – Salt Water
“The cure for everything is salt water – sweat, tears, or the sea.” ~Isak Dinesen I’ll be heading out to sea for a couple days, Mudflatters, but fear not. I shall bring back treasures to share. Shannyn and Linda to hold down the fort – check. Dog/House sitters – check. Cameras – check. Laptop – check. Brian the moose – on his own. So, as my dad used to say, “Do good. Avoid evil.” And leave me lots of good links so I can catch up on the goings on in the world when I get back!
Open Thread – Horse Tails

Though I don’t support the missions in Iraq and Afghanistan, I very much support the troops involved. Many Americans seem to have forgotten that this is a time of remembrance and not just the ceremonial beginning of summer to be celebrated with cookouts, beer, and fireworks. Earlier today someone told me “Happy Memorial Day!” The…

Just a cool picture of what happens when a pile of flour, and a couple eggs meet a new pasta crank. Chatter away…
Open Thread – Troll of the Week
It’s time once again for the little segment we call “Troll of the Week” because it sounds better than “Troll of an Undetermined and Random Time Interval.” Every once in a while a particularly fascinating troll will wander across the mudflats and end up at our back door. There are lots of trolls of the not-so-fascinating variety that come by and yell an insult, or call us all names I can’t repeat. The fate of those trolls is to live in anonymity, with comments never posted, and then be flung unceremoniously into the mudflats from whence they sprang. But the…
