Who is Bob Poe?

Dennis Zaki just got back from Kodiak, where he met Bob Poe. He asked him the question, “Who is Bob Poe?” and got this answer. Dennis hopes to ask this question of all the gubernatorial candidates.

**WARNING** Do not watch this video if you feel insecure about your resume.

i wonder. does anyone think gov. palin would attempt a second term?..b
    ———–

Bubbles, if she does that, she will be doomed. Probably her PR people have told her that already.

I think Andrew Halcro might be running against Bob Poe. Whether Andrew runs as a repub, or indep, remains to be seen. But Andrew also figures in as a definite possibility, if that’s what he’s going to do.

So maybe we’ll have Poe, a yet-to-be-named GOP candidate, and Independent Halcro — ?? Or maybe Halcro will go GOP?

(Hey Andrew, you’re probably getting a big kick out of reading this stuff, huh?)

Any way you look at it, this next Governor’s race is going to be velly velly intellesting.

  2. Aussie Blue Sky says:

I’ve just been looking at Bob Poe’s website. It appears he is able to commence fundraising tomorrow.

  3. Aussie Blue Sky says:

His resume is kind of amazing. I hope we see more candidate videos from Dennis. 8)

  4. MinNJ says:

    @Alaskan Sisu

Both are completely hysterical and creative suggestions! Have you thought about another career? LOL

  5. Bob Poe sounds like a great choice for governor. I hope he does well. Good luck to him and to Alaska on this one.

  6. Alaskan Sisu says:

How about a Rosie ODonnell-Palin show, they both have pitbull characteristics. Rosie is smart enough to keep it going – they both like their conspiracy theories. Also, I wonder what Donald Trump would think about putting Palin on Celebrity Apprentice. I would write a thougtletter of recommendation for either of those endeavors, as usual, for finding her a new career is near and dear to this Alaskan’s heart, so very much.

  7. MinNJ says:

Dear God I hope he wins. For all of us.

  8. I know Bob Poe. He’ll be the formidable challenge to Governor Palin she deserves, and the good governor we need.

  9. InJuneau says:

Team Alaska–seriously? The huskies are named Ben and Jerry? WOW, that’s too cool. Even more of a reason to vote for him (and Terzah IS a wise Inupiaq).

  10. Ashkee Colorado says:

Very unwordsalady, but can he plow when God opens the door? Poebama for Alaska! Sounds good to me.

  11. DD says:

This is a guy you hire not vote for…..

  12. Gindy50 says:

She could be on TV, as a late night infomercial hostess.

  13. Team Alaska says:

I know Bob Poe and I Like him!

Bob would be a great Governor of our diverse state of Alaska. Terzah Tippin Poe is beautiful and wise Inupiat Alaskan Native! Their Siberian Huskies are called Ben and Jerry, how cool is that. This couple knows Vermont’s finest Ice Cream, they get my vote!

Seriously, it’s a rare day that we get such a balanced business leader, turn into political candidate, because they see the ship headed for the rocks and have coordinates and skill to plot a new course into a successful future for are state.

Its a pleasure to know Bob and Terah Poe.

  14. bubbles says:

nice guy. looks to be a reasonable sort of man.would make a very fine governor..b

    He sounds absolutely perfect. lol

See, Texans, you have a perfectly good potential candidate there (excepting the fact that you’ll have to make your state a bit more blue to make Cecile (who sounds like a winner to me) acceptable as a replacement for Gov. Good Hair (that is what you call him, right?)). Oh, that and you’ll have to get her to move back to TX in time to qualify…!

…The only place I can see her fitting in is as a replacement for that gawdawful blonde on The View. That would be an even swap of one vacuous airhead for another. )

Honestly, I don’t think Sarah could replace Elisabeth. Sarah seems to shut down when confronted (“”I feel like you guys are always trying to put me on the spot!”), unlike Hassledreck, for whom opposition seems tied directly to her verbal volume / speed dial.

I used to love The View, but I don’t watch it anymore because of EH.

  20. the problem child IS MY NAME! says:

Okay, that is one sincere and talented guy! He even speaks in complete sentences!

  21. Mizzou-DMCRT-Plexico says:

I love MUDFLATS…Come here everyday to get my fix and just can’t wait to read the comments/blogs. LOVE YOU AKM! You and everyone here “ROCK” But I had to post something about Mr. Poe. I am from Missouri and see that you have one of our hidden treasures there in Alaska. I wonder what he could have done for our state if he would have stayed here..(sigh) The good thing is we do have a DEM. for our GOV. now and maybe things will start looking up in MO. I fill that BOB POE would take the great state of AK and all the people who live there and do whats right and best for ALL…not just the ones that will benefit his agenda unlike GINO! I would absolutely LOVE/PAY to see a debate between the two..HOPE THE GREAT PEOPLE IN AK VOTE HIM IN AS YOUR NEW GOVERNOR COME ELECTION!!!

    HAVE A GREAT WEEK-END EVERYONE!!!

InJuneau – Here ya go. I’m not sure if Molly had any kids.

  25. InJuneau says:

    C. Rock–Oh, OK, I respect you for asking ( 😉 ), but after the last gov and a half, we really can’t afford to share/trade away any of our good prospects for the future. Hm, let me see if I can come up with another option for you. Are you sure Ann Richards didn’t leave behind a good option by way of a kid or two? Or what about Molly Ivins? There must be someone…

  26. MinNJ says:

Oh, isn’t he terrific! I agree that he is the Obama for Alaska: smart, capable, accomplished, and no drama. Darn, I wish I could vote for him…could someone send me an absentee ballot?

  27. austintx says:

Man – talk about opposite ends of the spectrum……….POE—-______palin.

  28. C. Rock says:

    InJuneau Says:

Hm, maybe that should, actually, be no way in heck NO!!

AWWWW. Like my mother always told me if you want something Ask for it, the worst that can happen is they tell you No. Cant blame me for trying .

  29. Priceless says:

Bob sounds like the kind of guy we need hanging out in OUR party! All we get is the outerspace rejects!

  30. Alaskan Sisu says:

I do not feel the GINSTER would try a second term, she’s packing too much baggage and more daily. Imagine being desperate enough to have a legal fund, she’s stepped in it too many times. I wouldn’t hold a lot of trust in her either since she continues to poke fun at her ethics violations if I was thinking about donating. Contrary to her behavior, there are thousands of Alaskans that understand the basic ethics 101. Her ethics cloud will follow her everywhere, her behavior, even in a private business would have kicked her out years ago. Remember, her personality disorder considers herself to be a gift.

  31. TBNTJudy says:

Bob Poe has actual experience dealing with Russia as Alaska’s International Trade Director, unlike SP who can only see Russia from her house 😉

  32. InJuneau says:

Hm, maybe that should, actually, be no way in heck NO!!

  33. InJuneau says:

    C. Rock–NO!

  34. C. Rock says:

Can we steel him away from Alaska and replace Gov Perry. Pleeeeease !

  35. michigander says:

bubbles – I don’t believe Palin has any intention of running for a 2nd term. She has her sights set on bigger things like Queen of the Universe.

  36. Professor Geezer says:

Another idea for SP’s FOX show: They will fit her with a “female” version of “Colmes.”

  37. Professor Geezer says:

    Go POE!!!

Here’s how FOX can give SP her own show: giver her a co-host who will actually speak in complete sentences. (But SP will insist that the co-host is not as “attractive” as she is.)

  38. BooBooBear says:

Hooray—someone who can actually speak in complete sentences! He would be a breath of fresh air! Can you imagine a debate between Bob Poe, Andrew Halcro and Palin? Now, that would be great! None of us will be fooled by HER a second time. She has shown her true colors and it ain’t purdy!

  39. GA Peach a/k/a Lance the Boil aka Crust Scramble says:

re: a Poe/palin debate. palin doesn’t debate, she deflects.

  40. womanwithsardinecan says:

Ruh Roh, Sarah…another good reason not to run for reelection. You are SO outclassed. also, too.

  41. Alaskan Sisu says:

At least Bob Poe would roll out the welcome mat to all Alaskans that visited the mansion which he would hold in high honor and esteem. It’s hilarious watching Palin pretend the mansion isn’t there or the Capital isn’t in Juneau. She has her own little mansion built by Todd’s friends – does the IRS need to get knocked over the head with a board before they investigate, DUH?! Sometimes I just wonder Is she really ethically arrogant, “cheap”, and broke – she sure acts like it too, also, anyway.

  42. bubbles says:

i wonder. does anyone think gov. palin would attempt a second term?..b

  43. gnomestrath says:

Interesting vid. writing from the other side of the world you could do with a few more guys like that at many levels in your local and national politics.

  44. InJuneau says:

AND he’d live in Juneau, the CAPITAL, in the Governor’s House/Mansion; he’s said so!!

  45. karen marie says:

a competent person running for governor in alaska?

think he stands a chance in hell of getting elected?

    i have confidence he does.

his inauguration will be a breath of fresh air after your current palindromic chief executive.

  46. EyeOnYou says:

What I would love to see is a debate between Poe and Palin, but town hall style with no notes to support them. They simply have to answer the questions from their own knowledge and not from facts that someone else has provided for them .

I think, and this is merely my own opinion, that Palin is exceptionally under-versed in everything and can only sound like she knows about a subject in a reasonable manner if she has a prepared speech or notes to give her talking points.

Poe, just from sharing his basic resume in that video clip seems to impart his ability to have a wealth of knowledge on a wide variety of subjects.

  47. Closet Mudpup says:

    @InJuneau

I’ll bet you’re right – she’s ever the clever one!

  48. Alaskan Sisu says:

I don’t think Palin can FOCUS on issues or debate issues so I can’t see her running her own show of the non scripted variety. Mrs. Greta allows her in her airspace because she knows how limited Palin’s capabilities truly are. Also, and so, therefore, don’t you think her latest legal fund might backfire by drawing so much attention to her ethical arrogance. I don’t know of any company in this world right now that would hire someone with the baggage GINO has currently got hitched to her wagon. She’s looking more like a burden than a victim to me everyday. Happy Friday mudpuppers

  49. txindygirl says:

i wish bob poe would come run for governor of texas. he’s smart, articulate, capable, and has a nice, easy manner. oh well….

i can see him doing very well against the phony palin folksiness she likes to use when progressin’ her agenda and talkin’ to the people of AK.

you know who i’d like to see debate palin? ann richards. (of the “george bush senior was born with a silver foot in his mouth” fame). that would be real fun. yessiree.

  50. InJuneau says:

@Closet Mudpup–Prob. not Sarkozy, but what do you want to bet she’s following Putin so she knows when he’s going to rear his ugly head up over her state of which she is governor?!?

  51. the problem child IS MY NAME says:

Darn it, can’t watch video at work. (At least I can delay my resume envy…)

  52. Closet Mudpup says:

    EyeOnYou @ 11

I agree. She fits the Fox ideology, but really doesn’t have the verbal or thinking-on-her-feet skills to hold down a seat. The only place I can see her fitting in is as a replacement for that gawdawful blonde on The View. That would be an even swap of one vacuous airhead for another. BTW, is Palin following President Sarkozy on Twitter yet??

  53. InJuneau says:

Yeah, I, also too, can’t see anyone actually hiring her as a fulltime talking head. I do think even they require talking heads to be able to speak fluently, in some language other than Palinese!

  54. dowl says:

Bob Poe sounds like a good guy. When his name was mentioned here months ago, I dutifully checked out his website (thanks for the info w/links, AKM) and I was appropriately impressed with his credentials.

I trust that conscious AK voters who want the best for ALL of its citizens will to their level best to elect the most qualified for the job. Hopefully, the decisions made will not just simply be, well better than SP, but to choose the best person for the governing of the state. That person’s job will include a lot of clean-up work.

  55. ocliberal says:

Poe is to Palin as Obama was to Bush.

Hopefully Alaskan voters will wise up like the rest of America did.

  56. EyeOnYou says:

InJuneau ~ You know I am not sure that Fox News would actually hire her, at least not as a fixed personality. She might become one of their “consultants” or part time personalities, but I just have this gut feeling they like their on air types to be able to string a complete sentence together on a regular basis. Don’t get me wrong, she would fit right in over there, but it would be tough for the others to give up their seniority and Sarah isn’t going to accept being low man on the totem pole if you get what I am saying! 😉

I picture her as more of a Jerry Sringeresque type of host with the same level of intelligence as her guests!

  57. InJuneau says:

EyeOnYou–Yeah, unless she takes that vast “executive” experience on out of here and puts it to use helping run Faux/Fixed News or something like that! 😉

  58. EyeOnYou says:

But Governor Palin was Mayor of Wasilla and was on the PTA, so he is up against someone with ‘executive’ experience! 😉

  59. mwThatOne.. says:

Not often do we see a politician who has business experience, is an administrator who ‘gets things done’, can work with everyone, is passionate about our state ~ idealistic, realistic, practical, futuristic AND a do-er. Go, team! Truly a “real Alaskan”……….

  60. Deep Blue says:

Well, I am sure glad I saw that video. I knew nothing about Bob Poe before, but I can say now he is certainly qualified to do the job and seems to be very smart and articulate as well. What a nice change that would be for Alaska!

  61. gdwyer says:

Wow!! I’m impressed. How much longer before he can get started?

  62. Nan says:

We *did* have such a one in St Louis… Bob Poe, apparently! And if I didn’t have qualms about my resume before, I sure do now.

Hang onto that guy, he sounds like a good ‘un!

  63. tigerwine says:

GA Peach – you are spot on! And to think we might have to put up with Gingrich in addition to Isakson and Chambliss! Not to mention Bob Barr. They are all there lurking!!

  64. Enjay in E.MT says:

    OT OT OT

Some “idiot” in MT wrote a stmt to the court on why he couldn’t serve on Jury Duty — for a good laugh (What is scary is he apparently was able to vote – since voter rolls give us Jury Pools)

    read more @ http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2009/0430091jury1.html

  65. Matha says:

Hmmmmmmmm? Kinda makes a person feel unaccomplished! I think I’ll kidnap him, we have a provincial vote in 2 weeks and he would make a wonderful Premier.

If Alaskans pass this man up, I’ll be forced to give up on Alaska.

  66. GA Peach a/k/a Lance the Boil aka Crust Scramble says:

Well, he impresses the heck out of me. Wish we had such in Georgia. Good luck, Bob Poe.

  67. Ripley in CT says:

Proving, once again, that you have some real gems up there in the coldlands!
