Mead’s In. Lt Gov. Treadwell announces for Senate Run

To nearly no ones surprise Lt. Governor Mead Treadwell has announced that he has filed the necessary paperwork to run for the US Senate in the 2014 Republican Primary.

So now we’ve got Joe Miller and Mead Treadwell running to unseat incumbent Mark Begich.

Should be an interesting election season. Question is, if Mead loses, will he bow out with grace or run an ugly independent run like a certain other Senator.

Below the photo is Treadwell’s announcement from his site – which is now  www.TreadwellAlaska2014.com

STATEMENT BY ALASKA LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR MEAD TREADWELL

Lt. Gov. announces he will not seek re-election, will file as candidate for United States Senate

TUESDAY, JUNE 18, 2013, ANCHORAGE, ALASKA—Alaska Lieutenant Governor Mead Treadwell released the following statement today:

“On November 30, 2012, I announced in Fairbanks that I would form an exploratory committee to test the waters for a possible run for the United States Senate in 2014. Since then, I’ve done a lot of listening.

I’ve met with community and business leaders, elected officials, and my party’s grassroots volunteers from all across Alaska. In Washington, D.C., I’ve met with members of the U.S. Senate and respected national organizations and groups that share my core conservative values. I’ve talked and prayed with my family. Their responses have been positive and encouraging.

Alaskans are very concerned about what is, or is not, happening in Washington, D.C.

So am I.

This intense exploratory effort has convinced me that I have the support necessary to build a winning campaign.

Today I’m taking the next step by announcing that I will not seek re-election as Alaska’s lieutenant governor and have begun to file documents required as a candidate for the United States Senate in 2014.

My campaign will focus on three principles:

• Fighting for liberty by reversing the Obama Administration’s relentless assault on our families and our freedoms.
• Fighting for fiscal sanity in Washington, D.C. We borrow too much, we spend too much, and we tax too much.
• Fighting for Alaska. The federal government must deal with Alaska’s issues on Alaska’s terms. Ted Stevens fought every day to bring power and decision-making home, and so will I.

These are Alaska’s principles; join us and we’ll make them America’s principles again.

Well, old Joe (yes, he gets old really fast) is going to find out that a huge amount of his votes last time around were comments on Lisa and well-intentioned strategic voting, not real votes for him.

HINT and REMINDER – think long and hard if you are tempted again to do or recommend strategic voting, and kindly come back here and tell us if and when that has ever really worked. I can only think of bad instances – one in particular that went bad for Juneau a long time back and caused me to do something I probably shouldn’t have done but it was worth it and I have no regrets!

And this is coming from someone who has told Sen Begich that I will happily work to replace him, grrrrr… I despised his flippant, a-hole response to gun control. Two people in my family were senselessly murdered by guns – wrote to him about both – did he answer? Of course not. So, I guess I sit this one out.

Did you cuss while you were at it?

  2. John says:

So he wants Alaskans to make decisions about Alaska; not the feds. I suppose he will talk to his current boss about not giving up Coastal Management rights to the feds, and also too about setting up our own insurance exchanges for Alaskans instead of having that done by the feds.

  3. Pimping Palin says:

jumping from that sinking State of Alaska ship eh? Jumping to the federal level only gets you dumped in seas!

    • Anon says:

no kidding right…and they just had a meeting about putting their “agendas” into the laws…oh now boys…
that will just get untangled in the higher courts now…federal supreme courts…so much for that “sticking to the wall” hu Palin?

  4. Carol says:

Should be an interesting primary, considering Tredwell ran as the “only true (or was it real?) conservative. Wonder what his motto will be this time? Wonder what Miller’s will be. Barf to both of them.
But that’s okay, look who’s signing up for LtGov! Again BARRF.

“Fighting for liberty by reversing the Obama Administration’s relentless assault on our families and our freedoms” — I’d love to ask him if he could give me 3 examples of these dastardly maneuvers of wanton liberty-stripping via “relentless assaults” by the Obama Administration on the good people of AK (and the USA )…just 3 examples of harm systematically and purposefully inflicted (as he so implies) on “our families and our freedoms”; just a measly three [and he can pick any 3 he wants!]. I think it only fair to warn him, though, that fact-checking Would be applied to any response he makes. I wonder what examples he’d give… beth.

    Really Sir?
So I assume you will relieve the rest of us who pays for the welfare that Alaska receives, 1.84 for every 1 it sends to Washington.

    • Alaska Pi says:

Is it necessary to slap Alaskans with this welfare- state dealie to make your point?
The situation here is considerably more complex than this ratio presumes and quite frankly feeds the MeadTreadwells of the state to frame it as you have.

      • AKMagpie says:

There you go again, A Pi, injecting facts and mathematics into the discussion. Perhaps a better measure than “per capita” could be developed. Including such things as modifying defense spending on the coasties by miles of shoreline, and educational spending by distance from the road system and and costs for food stamps by transportation cost of food. How about it ISER?

    • Martha Unalaska Yard Sign says:

You play right into the love-to-brainwash mantra of the R party by repeating “talking points” which have been fed to you, with no curiosity or interest invested on your part. You can certainly do that if you want, which of course means turn on that TV every day and night to watch the Noise Anchors put on their show. There would be very little TV news if we all did a little research to discover that “Lions, Tigers and Bears – OH MY!” is just an easy way to get ratings and money. Have you looked up the definition of propaganda lately?

  8. aussiebluesky says:

With all the ructions in the ARP the past couple of years I’m just not seeing Miller getting the nomination again. If I’m wrong, and Treadwell mounts a write-in campaign, how many Democrats are going to vote against Begich to get Treadwell over the line like they did Lisa?

  9. Alaska Pi says:

    Pffffttt!!!
    What a load a hooey.
Those 3 principles are chock full of code words.
They are also designated drivers for a set of ideas which really should be put long side the road and left to sober up.
    So tired of this crap.
    I used to love popcorn…
