Hope Truck Leaves for Eagle!
After driving back and forth through the parking lot at Lowe’s and marveling at exactly how many black pickup trucks there were, I spotted it. A black truck with a canopy, full to the brim, and balloons tied to the rack. The Hope Truck! It was great fun meeting up with Hope, and…..Mr. Hope.
And it was wonderful delivering the good news….that Mudflatters contributed $770 to the pressure washer and cleaning fluid for Eagle! Needless to say, that was plenty! (And that’s not including direct contributions to the Rebuild Eagle Fund, or boxes of supplies sent direct, or dog food!) So, the pressure washer, hose, cleaner, and a few other things are heading north as a gift from the Mudflats community to the good people of Eagle. The remainder will be sent to the Rebuild Eagle Fund at Wells Fargo bank.
The Hope Truck was so chock full of tools, clothes, and supplies that a second truck was added to the caravan to haul the pressure washer and other goodies. It was a rainy morning, but when the truck pulled out of the parking lot at 5:00, heading north, the sun was shining.
We’re hoping to hear a report from Wasilla and points north as the truck passes through. Hope tells me that she’s been snapping lots of pictures, and plans on giving a report of the trip once she’s back at a computer.
Drive safe, Mr. and Mrs. Hope! You carry the good will of many with you. I am once more amazed at the generosity of spirit, and can-do attitude of Mudflatters.
Just ckd. the forum and YBG reports that Hope landed in Eagle. Her exact word was , “stupendous”.
I’m in CA right now, with finally the time to check in, and I am SO PROUD OF YOU HOPE! You go, girl!

The old-timers named it Chicken because they couldn’t agree on how to spell ptarmigan.

Funny ! Thanks for sharing that little nugget. Gotta love it !
If Hope reads this or if AKM has a cell phone number for the Hopes, there’s wifi and a satellite phone, too, also, in Chicken, Alaska at the RV park on the road to the Chicken airport. It’s past the Chicken Creek Saloon. There’s generally no cell phone reception on the Taylor Highway except on top of Mt. Fairplay at Mile 40-45 or so. (The old-timers named it Chicken because they couldn’t agree on how to spell ptarmigan. The hills around there are full of ptarmigan in a good year. They look like small Barred Rock hens. Sort of. I have recipes.) I’m going to send this Mudflats article to my friends at the Chicken Gold Camp & RV Park and ask them to BOLO for the Hopes.
Sending lots of good wishes for save travel and weather from the “bush”!!
Vic & gang
What great news about the Hope truck! It makes the damp sunshine here feel just that much better. Happy Trails and safe travels, Mr. and Ms. Hope!
re: our boy brian…
he’s already made an appearance here in southern california and akm has the evidence.
he’s quite the charmer, i might add, but has quite the appettite.
I was just thinking of the unselfish giving of people like The Hopes, who are helping others just because it’s the right thing to do & the narcisistic self promotion of people like The Palins & Ziegler. Why can’t people who support them see through their charade?
As I sit here waiting for my coffee to brew, I read….and I laugh! What a gadabout that Brian is!!!
And I was just thinking last night, and needed a place to post it… here is perfect.
I love this place. I love this blog. I love the good and honest people that hang out here. I love the “feeling” of it all. Thank you AKM. Again. What a blessing.
And Hope, you and Mr. Hope are incredible people. Thank you for “representing”.
Let’s see if Sarah will appoint Brian de Moose as Alaska’s Ambasador of Goodwill sans portfolio.
If she doesn’t know who Brian is it might work.
It lovely to see people who will help, really help, their neighbors. It makes the world right for a little while.
What a world we would have if filled with people like The Hopes. Grassroots giving.
What everyone else said. Have a safe trip and a safe home. Can’t wait for the pics of the Hope truck arriving in Eagle. I bet the pressure washer will make rainbows…
Great to see the Hope truck!
Good work Hope, Mr. Hope and Caravan Pal! Have a fast and safe journey.
Looking forward to reading about your trip, Hope.
Great work! Have a safe trip.
TiredMom
Thanks. I never figure on googlemaps having the right time. That’s a long enough trip!
Hope they remembered to pack sandwiches! Doesn’t look like there’s a lot of McDonald’s along the way!
Baker’s Dozen,
According to my friend, Bear Woman (who is in Juneau), the trip from Anchorage to Eagle is about 8 hours or so.
You are spot on Karin in CT: this place brings endless smiles to my face too, also!
Nan, I am teary eyed with you as well, too, also.
Hope, and Mr. Hope: drive safe, enjoy all the good Mudpup vibes that are traveling with you, and thank you for stepping up and doing what is good and right.
And Mudpups one and all…. I thank you for your endless support of me during my hubby’s illness and passing…. I received the fourth delivery of flowers from the community today…. when they coined the phrase: “share the love”, this is what they meant!! MUDPUPS ROCK! and then some!
Just how far–in miles and in hours–is the Hope trip?
AKM, a request? When Brian’s travel gallery gets sorted, can we have a variety of Brian poses against a blue or white background? Then those of us outside Alaska can Photoshop Brian to other areas.
Just a thought…
Brian is quite the stud………..Beautiful wife , twins , and a social life that would tire a marathon runner !! The dude is the Master of his universe !!
lol, Corning, I stand corrected! 🙂
You mean “MOOSE about town”!
Go Hope Truck! Kudos to all who pitched in!
This is just sooo cool…Once again it never ceases to amaze me at how blessed we are..This is what life is all about…Makes me sooo happy hat i found this place AKM…Truly an honor blogging here…
Brian’s beginning to look like Alaska’s version of a garden gnome! 🙂 He travels and gets his picture taken. If I were Brenda, I’d be pretty chapped that I always had to stay at home with the kids, though (unless this is his job and he’s getting paid). So, Brian, I have a suggestion for you. On your website where people fill in the form asking for your august presence, please put in a box marked, “Is the Best First Family Invited?” Don’t go unless you’re all invited–and they’ll give you something from the Mudflats shop to wear on camera. 😀
Hope springs eternal. Just didn’t know it came in a black truck!
and, yep, Brian is just the “man around town” now!
YAY!!!! 1 am here in Kentucky, I was staying up to hear a Hope truck update!
Nice post, ah, it looks like you worked at not showing Mr and Ms. Hope’s face’s. You might want to blur out their lic plate # if ID is an issue.

Woo Hoo! Go Hope! Good on all the mud pups who contributed. Wow, over $700.00. This should be sent to Ms. Palin and then we should ask what she has done!!! A letter for disaster assistance 3 weeks late????
Yeay, Mudflatters! What a team.
