Photos: Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
For the first time in my weird career as a photojournalist I covered the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. My photographer friends and colleagues all sighed and said that they were thankful that they didn’t have to do it. They were weirded out a bit more when I said I had volunteered for the gig.
So when I woke up at 7am (realistically a bit too late) I jumped on the subway uptown with a bit of apprehension and exhaustion, I had been covering a protest until about 10pm the night before. After talking my way into the gated off parade perimeter, which included two layers of metal barricades and a metric ton of NYPD, I stood in the middle of Central Park West looking a giant squirrel chasing an acorn. And thus began the most fun I’ve had shooting an assignment in quite a while.
Cool beans, Zach. Looks like it was fun.
Thanx for the pics. Looks like it was a good day. Most grateful there were any incidents. Be safe, n
OMG! Snoopy has been beheaded!
The only time I ever attended was bringing kids from institutions to see the parade from the safety of second-floor windows. It was the 70s; the parade was much smaller. Glad you had a fun assignment, Zach.
