I am happy to announce that I got an email today that started like this:

Wow! I feel so…..scholarly!
I’d like to thank all of you who have been so supportive of the blog, and of my application! This is a really exciting opportunity, and a wonderful chance for me to learn and meet other bloggers, and expand my horizons a bit. And it also means that you all will get to come along, because I plan to be blogging about it and tweeting and facebooking and taking pictures, and all that good stuff. Netroots Nation will happen the second week of August in Pittsburgh.
Right now, I’m still a little bit in shock…. But I did want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. You guys are the best!

Next year, we should nominate AKM in one round, Shannyn in another and Celtic Diva in the third. That way, we can ALL vote for ALL of them to go.

Much easier this go round, didn’t have to do all the signup hoops like when we first voted for AKM. Just pressed on the link rightside & midway down Shannyn’s application page saying:

Does anyone remember? There was another contender that was running close to AKM for a while. Can’t remember his name.
His blog was about Appalachia and several posters here thought he also had an excellent, informative blog. I want to keep any eye out for him, check out his blog and perhaps vote for him next if he’s still in the running. He might be an interesting person for AKM to meet, given the differences but similarities concerning rural AK.
Fantastic news but not surprising! Given the quality of Mudflats WRT news, humor, just fun reading, shortage of trolls – AKM you simply deserve this opportunity! Are the democracyforAmerica people sending out a press release on this? I’d like to get a copy to forward to all the county Democratic committees in this state. I’m sure the yinzers in Pittsburgh will be very interested in the presence of AKM. Some might even want their picture taken with Brian.

I’m guessing the scholarship covers air travel and reasonably-priced hotel stay for the duration of the conference/workshop/thingamie. But if not, if AKM’s internet writing is bringing in any income at all, this trip is absolutely a business trip, and has legal tax deductions associated with it, travel expenses being among them.
I’m sure AKM will let us know if a begathon of our own is in order.
In the meantime, let’s get those yellow boots dancin’ and kickin’ their heels!
