Internal Emails Reveal Joe Miller Campaign Distancing Itself from Tea Party

[Cross-posted at The Huffington Post] Sorry, Tea Party Sugar Daddy. Looks like your sweetie really isn’t that in to you.  Now, don’t get me wrong, he doesn’t mind spending your money like a drunken sailor trying to stumble his way into the halls of the nation’s capitol, but to be seen with you in public? Well, frankly he thinks you’re just a little embarrassing. There is no question that Alaska Republican Senate candidate Joe Miller has been treated like a king by the Tea Party Express.  Last June, he received their full endorsement.  He was a long shot back then. …

Lisa Goes Rogue

I made my way into the Dena’ina Convention Center in downtown Anchorage where Lisa Murkowski was scheduled to make a “big announcement”.  Earlier in the day her cousin leaked the information on her Facebook page that the announcement was going to be the launch of her write-in candidacy for U.S. Senate.  I was hoping that she would change her mind at the last minute.  She’s apparently been changing her mind at the last minute for some time now. There were a few hundred people packed into the upstairs lobby and they were all beaming.  The energy was high and they were…

Spotted About Town – “Dance Bristol Dance”

In this season of political signs, Anchorage print shops are bustling with activity.  But not all signs are what you might expect. Mudflatter Soapy got a surprise when he happened across a pile of signs fresh off the presses that are seemingly destined for out-of-state use. It’s reported that Sarah Palin will be in attendance when daughter Bristol appears on the season opener of Dancing With the Stars on Monday. So if you’re watching, keep an eye out to see if they might pop up somewhere. TMZ reports: Our spies say security has been “beefed up” for Sarah’s appearance. And get this … We…

Sarah Palin on 9/11 – A Report from the Goofy, Brutal, Leftist, Lamestream Media

Installment #4 from my evening in the Belly of the Beck.  Legal Eagle and I were on the scene, bearing witness so others didn’t have to.  My comments are in red. Everything else is straight from the mouth o’ the Quitter. ********************************** How long has it been?  It’s going on forever! She just keeps talking.  How does Todd Palin not want to hurl himself off a tall tower or stab himself in the temple with a fondue fork?  I lean over to Legal Eagle and ask, “Is it just me or is she just screeching like a Harpie?”   “No. It’s bad,”…

Mudflats Chats – Joe McGinniss (Part 1)

Sarah Palin’s famous neighbor is gone, and Alaska is a little emptier than before.  But before Joe McGinniss took off into the waning light of the late Alaskan summer and back to the East coast, I had the opportunity to sit down with him and talk about his book.  No, not that one – the new edition of his classic Alaskan adventure Going to Extremes which was originally published in 1980. Like a nineteenth century flaneur (from the french to stroll, and meaning “a person who walks the city in order to experience it”) McGinniss traveled the state of Alaska…

Palin and the Statue of Socialism

We’re back for the third installment of our foray into the dark and bizarre world of the Glenn Beck/Sarah Palin 9/11 rally in Anchorage.  We return to the scene with Palin on stage talking about Beck.   My comments appear in red. The rest is right out of the mouth of the ex-half-governor. *********************** He has such an infectious eagerness to learn and share. He was named one of the most influential people in the world by Time Magazine.  Time Magazine! And you know Glenn and I are big big fans of Time Magazine. (laughter)  But, anyway… he was named and…

Next Stop 2012? Where Will Palin Make the Announcement?

When we last left AKM and Legal Eagle, they were deep into a glass of wine, sitting at the Glenn Beck/Sarah Palin Exploit-a-Palooza to commemorate the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Lights down, and first up is Sarah Palin. “Let me ask you first Alaska, do you loooove your freedom?” Hey… didn’t I just hear that a couple hours ago at the 9/11 rally at the Wasilla Sports Complex?  Yes, I did.  These Alaskans also apparently love their freedom too.  You’d think after how much she asked she’d figure out that everyone pretty much loves their freedom.  But, whatever….

Politics v. Policy – The Wrong Side Wins With Berkowitz’s “Visionary Plan”

Until last week, we believed that both Democratic candidates for governor were good choices. We believed that both put the interests of Alaskans first, supported Democratic achievements, and could be effective leaders working across the aisle to pass legislation and to support policy and existing legislation that benefited the people of Alaska. Many of our readers support Hollis French. Many of our readers support Ethan Berkowitz.  But very few had substantial angst about the other. But last week something happened that rocked the boat, and by ‘rocked the boat’ we mean pitched the boat to the point where a lot…

Open Thread – Alaska Women Not For Sarah Palin, Part 9

Netroots Nation 2010 is drawing closer! I’ve been a bit quiet lately, mostly because I”m preparing for the trip and getting my other life in order, which is always more complicated than you think it will be. I did have a strange encounter the other night which I’ll share. We haven’t had a good “Brian the Moose” story lately, so this one seemed like a good runner up. I was sitting here at the computer (imagine that!) and all of a sudden I heard a tapping on the glass of the sliding door. It was about 2am, so I wondered…

“Refudiating” Palin’s Racist Tweet

It feels strange weighing in on a house of worship thousands of miles away, well, at least for me. A proposed mosque two blocks from Ground Zero has Palin tweeting on a Sunday afternoon. According to Politico: Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s City Hall hit back at Palin, first tweeting “@SarahPalinUSA mind your business.” The aide, policy hand Andrea Batista Schlesinger, followed that up with: “@SarahPalinUSA whose hearts? Racist hearts?” Bloomberg has defended the plan for the mosque, arguing that blocking it would impinge on religious freedom This is a local issue for New Yorkers. I’m weighing in on Sarah Palin. She’s…
