Sarah Palin Brings Cookies – The Sequel

Streeeeetch….. streeetch your minds back, Mudflatters.  It’s February of 2009, and Sarah Palin wings her way to the remote village of Russian Mission to address the problems of the food/fuel crisis that was causing rural residents to have to choose between heating their homes and feeding their families.  Palin’s solution?  No, not a state of emergency, silly.  That would be a government public sector-type solution.  The private sector provided her with evangelical preacher Franklin Graham, a cushy private jet, some boxes of food with a sprinkling of religious literature, and a plate of Sarah’s homemade cookies.  Really.  She brought cookies.  Cookies that…

Oyster Roundup

~Thick and fast they came at last, and more, and more, and more!   Neighbors and Cupcakes and Bears – Oh, my! For the faint of heart, and the thin of stomach lining, the ADN’s Julia O’Malley got a peek at the first episode of Sarah Palin’s Alaska, and she watched it so you don’t have to. Between carrying on about the neighbor, and trying to shoo boys out of Willow’s room, you can get all the details about what it takes to go fishing in “bear country.”  Just to clarify what you may already be thinking – yes, all of…

Peepgate Update – McGinniss Has Had Enough of Palins’ Spying

Update on Peepgate.  It seems that Joe McGinniss is none too pleased at his former neighbor Peeper Palin. Through his attorney, McGinniss is demanding that his image be removed from the first episode of Sarah Palin’s Alaska, entitled “Mama Grizzly.”  The proper terminology for the female brown bear defending her cubs is really “angry sow” but I’m sure that title was rejected. I’ll bet in respose to the letter below, Palin will sue, and demand that McGinniss take down all the photographs of them he’s posted on the internet, and all the scandalous spy reporting about how many bags they bring in…

Who’s the Real Peeper? Palin v. Neighbor in New Show for TLC.

Alas, we have been ignoring her but she has not fulfilled her end of the bargain and gone away. Far from it. Last week I received a lovely email invitation from TLC asking me if I’d like to attend an open house event in New York City for bloggers and online media to learn more about Sarah Palin’s Alaska. It was a nice invitation and it assured me that the show was not  “political.”  I passed.  Even I have my limits. I hope I have your forgiveness. Those in attendance were treated to a little extra sneak peak of the…

The Public Records Act and Joe Miller’s Delete Key

Recently, we all learned a good bit more about ol’ Moose Poaching, Divorce Lawyering, Journalist Arresting, Line in Sand Drawing, Computer Hacking, Farm Subsidy Taking  Joe Miller (I could add more, but really….it’s a bit much as it is. He should stop being such a hypocritical jerk so I don’t have to type so much). It wasn’t particularly surprising to learn that while employed as a part-time lawyer at the Fairbanks North Star Borough, Joe Miller had 60 — yes, SIXTY — pages in his personnel file, or that he admitted that he was a liar, or even that he…

Rachel Maddow Talks to Vic Fischer & Shannyn Moore

Well, it was a pretty exciting night in Anchorage! Rachel Maddow came and filmed her Tuesday night show right here in our humble city. Before I go pour myself into bed, I thought I’d put up one of my favorite segments of the show. This is Rachel interviewing Vic Fischer, one of the original delegates to Alaska’s constitutional convention. Yes, he’s one of our founding fathers so when certain candidates go throwing around comments about constitutions, he’s the guy to set them straight. And of course, Shannyn Moore livened up the discussion with her take on the election. It was…

Election 2010: There’s Only One Road to Transparency in Alaska…

In June of 2009 I embarked on an idealistic journey. Thanks to many Alaskans and folks across the country, I was able to raise enough money so that the State of Alaska would release the Records Request they had been sitting on for months. When the emails arrived and the only “good stuff” was redacted  or witheld due to bogus-sounding claims of “privilege,” I was not worried. I was sure that as soon as the email lawsuits brought by Andree McLeod and Don Mitchell against Palin were resolved (in McLeod/Mitchell’s favor…no one thought otherwise), I would then be able…

Palin Desecrates Flag. Again.

Desecrate the flag once, shame on you! Desecrate the flag twice? Shame on you also, too. Yes, Sarah Palin has taken her big honkin’ Sharpie marker and yes…. autographed a FLAG. The Stars and Stripes is now the Stars, Stripes, and Sarah Scrawls. For supposed uber-patriots, I don’t know whether to be more surprised that someone actually asked her to sign a flag, or that she actually DID. You can see the spectacle at about 1:31 in the clip. This whole flag desecration thing is getting to be quite the persistent metaphor for the entire Palin impression on the nation’s…

Joe Miller’s Alaska Militia

Joe Miller is fond of private security. In the Spring of 2008, Joe Miller showed up wearing Eric Estrada circa 1984 mirrored sunglasses, with security guards in a staged coup d’état of the leadership of the Alaska Republican Party. He lost. Randy Ruedrich still stands supreme as the party Chair, and now supports the man who once tried to oust him. Fast forward to July 4, 2010 – US Senate candidate Joe Miller’s supporters marched with assault rifles and campaign signs. The Alaska Dispatch has been doggedly pursuing a story on why Joe Miller lost his job several months after…

Guest Blog Post from Wickersham’s Conscience (Updated)

This is for those of you who have yet to discover WC’s blog and his superb combination of legal wisdom, political humor, birdwatching knowledge and gorgeous Alaska pictures. I thought this was a great summary for the weekend of some Joe Miller articles this past week. I found his last comment the most interesting. (By the way, in the picture above, it’s not previously been mention but the other man besides Joe in that picture is right-wing Conservative Patriot member and the Tea Party’s personal radio talk-show host, Glen Biegel.) —————————————————————————- WC isn’t the only blogger who is . ….
