Don’t Tread On Grammar: Reader Response
Posted by Zach Roberts on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 · 10 Comments
So, a while ago I made this No Pebble flag using art by the inimitable Ray Troll. It’s a riff on the Gadsden flag.
Someone didn’t like it too much. I got this in my e-mail.
Which, of course I forwarded to Jeanne.
After some grade school corrections from Jeanne, I created this.
Remember kids, fund public education.

Don’t Tread On My Obamacare – pretty clever!

Not being one that wants to disparage patriotic ‘murricans like this one, I’m gonna give him the benefit of the doubt. My guess is he would eat a mile of Palin or Nugent fudge just to see where the peanuts came from. Furthermore, someone claimed he ate s%^t sandwiches, but I informed his critics he doesn’t like bread. 🙂
I suspect this person has been treated as dumb and ignorant his whole life, and parading around under this little yellow flag gives him a feeling of solidarity, of being understood and accepted as someone holding worthwhile beliefs.
Kinda like wearing white robes with pointy hats.
Mark Twain to the rescue:
Patriot: the person who can holler the loudest without knowing what he is hollering about.
I’m self conscious about my grammar now. Mo, I do thoroughly love your comment.
As a former proofreader and editor, I approve this message.
Ditto. Also, too- from a retired English teacher, who ran out of red pens correcting Palin Word Salad 😉
Grammar issues aside, this doof doesn’t recognize Zach’s “flag” as an appropriate appropriation of the underlying values we associate with the original- as per slap back at a government which is out of touch with its peoples?
Pfffttt!
Our State government settled a case , rather than litigate, in which plaintiffs ( peoples of the Bristol Bay area affected) asserted the state had abused its powers/responsibilities in land use classifications with an eye towards large scale mining :
http://ourbristolbay.com/pdf/NondaltonTribalCouncil-v-StateDNR.pdf
The settlement , under current DNR policies, hasn’t allowed local folks much satisfaction as regards the process and outcome of the BBAP and so far the $s the Leg set aside to look at salmon issues v mining issues ? Does anyone know what’s up with that? after what? Three years??
So double Pfffttt! on the “patriot” who doesn’t seem to get the idea that Zach’s “flag” is spot on!!
The tea cakes can usurp the Gadsden flag itself but no one else can play with the underlying notions? Horsepunky!
The person who sent the email never read the book “Eats, Shoots and Leaves” by Lynne Truss. What a pity! I have “The Lynne Truss Treasury” and it’s very funny.
Love “Eats Shoots and Leaves”! I used it often in my English classes…
