Book it, Dano. The Mudflats Family Emergency Plan.

For those of you who are loyal readers of the blog, I want you to bookmark the OLD blog site, in case you don’t have it any more. It’s mudflats.wordpress.com Right now it’s used for archives of all the 2008 election articles, but the old site has much bigger better faster servers than the new site. SO… when something really exciting happens and everyone and his uncle in the world links to The Mudflats and crashes the site, check back to the old address. That way you can read and comment there, and relieve a little pressure from this site….

Open Thread – Rachel Maddow Visits McAdams HQ!

Thanks to all who sent in their email requests for tickets to the live broadcast of The Rachel Maddow Show from the Taproot Cafe in Anchorage tonight!  We were INUNDATED with requests. With a limited number of tickets to give, and thousands of requests, there were relatively few lucky winners.  If you were fortunate enough to get tickets, you should have gotten an email to the address you used that would have arrived somewhere between the hours of 11pm and 1am.  Be sure to check your spam filter for an email from [email protected] just to make sure you didn’t miss it. But,…

Open Thread – Ruth Moulton Plaza at Town Square Park

I’m posting the open thread a little early tonight in the hopes of catching some of you before you plan your day. It is a very special day for me, and the many friends and admirers of Ruth Moulton.  Ruth was an activist, but didn’t like to be called one.  She liked to be called a citizen because she believed that carried certain responsibilities and obligations in itself, which involved engagement in civic affairs, efforts to improve community life,  and stepping up to make things right when they weren’t. Ruth had many battles.  Some she won and some she lost,…

Open Thread – A Galaxy Far, Far Away…

In this season of madness, have you ever just wished that for a moment, you could be far, far away?  Well, scientists have now determined the farthest away that you could possibly be, and still be in a galaxy somewhere.  The farthest galaxy out there is located in the constellation Fornax.  I’ll lay it out there right now and say that I never even knew there was a constellation Fornax. But nevertheless, there it lies.  A tiny, tiny red speck of a galaxy. It all started with the classic image called the Hubble “Deep Field.”  The story of how the…

New McAdams Ad! (VIDEO)

Another great ad for Scott McAdams. Pass it on! And congratulations to Scott for raising over a million dollars in two months with the vast majority of those donations being under $200. Not corporate PACs, not the billionaire Koch Brothers’ Tea Party Express, but real people.

Open Thread – Who I’d Like to Be Today

The lawn is white. Not snow, but heavy frost. I can see the actual snow too, creeping down the mountains. It takes two steps down, and one step back… So, since I forgot to put up an open thread when I usually do, I was rummaging through some pictures to find something to post. And then I saw that guy. And then I thought, “I’d like to be that guy.” So there he is… a moment of summer as we wait for the snow.

Open Thread

Our virtual flight has come to a close.  Here we are approaching Anchorage before landing at Merrill Field.  We’ve traveled across Cook Inlet, and flown over the incredible wilderness, wetlands, marshes, and rivers over the communities of Beluga, Tyonek and beyond. Tomorrow, I’ll share the whole story with you.  It’s a curl up and settle in kind of story, and one that very much needs to be told.
