Sullivan Saga…Chapter 2. The Cocktail Waitress Speaks.

Court documents came to light yesterday which seemed to point to Dan Sullivan mayoral candidate and bar owner, as the infamous “Dan” who served drinks to a young cocktail waitress in his employ until she was over the legal limit and then sent her out into the world at 4am to drive the wrong way down I Street, cause a head on collision, flee the scene and ultimately end up arrested.  The right wing leapt into action proclaiming that it couldn’t possibly be THAT Dan.  Surely there must be some other Dan….a miscreant Dan…a Guinness pouring Dan at McGinley’s pub that…

Two Candidates and the Bridge to Debt.

I popped in to see the mayoral candidates forum hosted by the AARP at Central Middle School last night. Each candidate has made his views known, and has honed their answers to most of the questions by now. These two have been seeing a lot of each other lately. So, I’ll just note a few things that popped out at me. Both candidates look a bit tired. Eric Croft, who is usually 1000 watts of raw enthusiasm was only about 993 watts of raw enthusiasm, and Dan Sullivan looked even mopier than usual. He’s OK when he speaks, but then…

Who is Bob Poe?

Dennis Zaki just got back from Kodiak, where he met Bob Poe. He asked him the question, “Who is Bob Poe?” and got this answer. Dennis hopes to ask this question of all the gubernatorial candidates. **WARNING** Do not watch this video if you feel insecure about your resume. Who is Bob Poe? from Dennis Zaki on Vimeo.

Stevens Endorsement – Kiss of Death?

Wow.  I didn’t expect this one. ANCHORAGE, Alaska — In a poll conducted by Channel 2 News, Thursday, April 23, 2009, respondents were asked if they were more or less likely to vote for Dan Sullivan with Ted Stevens’ endorsement of Sullivan. Here is the official question and results: Are you more or less likely to vote for Dan Sullivan with Ted Stevens’ endorsement of Sullivan? More likely                   13% Less likely                  70% No change                   17% All polls conducted by Channel 2 News and KTUU.com are unscientific. I know, I know.  These kind of polls mean nothing.  I get it.  But it was…

Palin’s Future in the GOP.

After the deep, dreamless, recuperative shut-eye that was the inevitable result of the brutal Legislative session that ended yesterday, I awake to this on Politico: “Is Palin the Rev. Jackson of the GOP?” (balls up fists and rubs eyes furiously, blinks and checks again) “Is Palin the Rev. Jackson of the GOP?” Yup, I read that right. (runs to get coffee, comes back and reads) This article is a good one.  It talks about Palin’s role in the GOP, now that she’s proved herself to be completely unfit for the nation’s highest office.  Not only is it chock full of…

Sarah Palin Out of Touch and Out of Town.

Alaskans are picking themselves up and dusting themselves off today after dodging the bullet that was the appointment of Wayne Anthony Ross for Alaska’s Attorney General.  Relief is the word of the day. There were many factors leading to the demise of this nomination; the fact that he called gays “degenerates” in the Bar Newsletter, the condemnation by every major Native organization, the report of comments that can only be described as sexist and misogynistic at meetings and panel discussions, but the final nail in the coffin for several of those “nay” votes may have been the most awesome “gotcha” moment…

Unity for Eric Croft!

What better way to celebrate this evening than to hang out with a bunch of happy Democrats at an Eric Croft fundraiser!  It was held at the home of Senator Mark Begich and his wife Deborah Bonito.  Little Jacob Begich met us in the driveway, and told me he’d have to “wand me” for security purposes.  And sure enough he did, with a little plastic “security device”.  He was having a grand time as the security guy.  Very cute. The event was absolutely packed. I don’t know how many were there total, but at times it was almost impossible to get…
