“The Hell With Sarah Palin” – An Update from Emmonak

Last week Governor Sarah Palin sent a series of messages from her Twitter account regarding the subsistence fishing situation in Western Alaska.  “Good news!” we were told. AKGovSarahPalinGood update re Rural Advisor John Moller’s recnt Emmonak trip, great news he reports; we’ll twitter assuming press won’t pick up good news.about 3 hours ago from TwitterBerry John Moller was in the Western Alaskan village of Emmonak to discuss the topic on everyone’s mind – salmon.  Salmon are the primary subsistence food, and primary income source for residents of the Lower Yukon River.  Big problems, starting with the mismanagement of fisheries have caused…

The Poe-Mobile Hits the Road

I had an opportunity a few days ago to stop in at an event at the residence of Bob and Terzah Poe.  Bob Poe is the only Democrat so far to officially throw his hat in the ring to run for governor in 2010.  After having an “If not me, who?  If not now, when?” moment, he decided to declare his candidacy.  At the time, the Daily News column The Ear, said that it probably wasn’t a good idea to run for governor if the first question people asked was, “Who’s Bob Poe?”  He took the point, and has spent…

Welcome to the Fray.

There’s a bit of sage advice that most politicians take to heart:  Rise above the fray.  President Obama is a great example of how this works.  Sarah Palin and spokeswoman Meg Stapleton are a great example of why the advice exists in the first place, and as we have seen before, they are main characters in yet another cautionary tale. After the now infamous “Divagate” incident, Palin spokeswoman Meg Stapleton issued the following ill-conceived screed: Recently we learned of a malicious desecration of a photo of the Governor and baby Trig that has become an iconic representation of a mother’s…

Palin Blasts Blogger – Again.

Welcome once again to the wacky world of Alaska politics.  When we last left our governor, she was involved in a knock down drag out fight with David Letterman over a crass comment about her daughter getting “knocked up” during a baseball game.  We all know how that turned out, and regardless of which side you were on, or whether you were somewhere in the middle, it was quite a spectacle.  A battle of the Titans.  Former VP candidate and Queen of Alaska Sarah Palin vs. The Undisputed King of Late Night Comedy who can make or break politicians with…

Breaking News – Three More Ethics Complaints Against Palin, and Then Some?!

Alaska Report has breaking news!  According to the site, there are three (count ’em…THREE) ethics complaints against Governor Sarah Palin coming down the pike. Mention is also made of a “long simmering embezzlement/IRS scandal” that is still being looked at by the feds. Wow. I have no more news than that, folks.  Check it out at the link above, and use this thread to… I don’t know…. speculate I guess! Have at it.

Another One Bites the Dust.

The 2012 Republican prospects are a bit challenged these days. First, there was Bobby Jindal and his famous “What the Hell was THAT?” response to President Obama’s address to Congress back in March.  That’s the one where he ridiculed money to be used for volcano monitoring….just before a major volcanic eruption in Alaska, along with looking, in general, like a creepy version of Mr. Rogers who had no clue what he was talking about. Then, Newt Gingrich did his best to alienate women, Latinos, and anyone with an ounce of sense by calling Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor a racist….

Mudflats Theater! I’m Ready for My Close-up Now…

This is great!  You all are in for a real treat.   OK, I’ll wait while you grab your Jiffy-Pop. (time passes, we pop corn, and settle in) This is the funniest thing to happen since the “fugus” comment. Only this time, it’s an actual 5-minute YouTube video!  The first time I saw it,  I was on a computer without sound and I watched, riveted, just reading the text.  I wasn’t getting a complete picture by any means, but by the time the thing was done I was howling with laughter and I couldn’t wait to hear it so I…

Brother Can You Spare $600,000?

$600,000. That’s the growing pile of legal debt that Sarah Palin claims to have incurred since last summer. We don’t actually know that for a fact, nor do we know how these legal bills are itemized, or even for whom, because like so many things in the Palin administration,  (leaning over and whispering in your ear) it’s super secret.  But, that’s OK.  We’re not going to worry our pretty little heads about stuff like that. This mountain of debt is blamed, of course, on ethics complaints, and those who file them. “Ohhhh!  They’re trying to bankrupt the governor!  See, none…

Palin Won’t Release Amount of Gifts Because It’s a Secret! Shhhhh…..

It an amazing display of a different kind of “don’t ask, don’t tell,”  the Palins when asked to disclose how much the gifts Todd Palin receives from Arctic Cat (his sponsor for the Iron Dog snowmachine race) are worth, and they replied with silence.  They “can’t” tell us.  (looking around furtively and whispering in your ear)  It’s a secret. That’s right, gifts which could, according to sources, be worth in excess of $20,000 for the year 2008 alone are a “trade secret” according to the governor’s personal attorney, Thomas Van Flein.  These gifts include snowmachine(s) and “any discounts offered on wear.”  …

Sexism and Free Market Comedy.

The following press release was issued today.  Read it first, and we’ll all join up afterward for a big helping of irony. Sen. Menard and Rep. Fairclough angered by Letterman joke, encourage apology to all women. Wasilla, AK, June 15, 2009 – Alaska Senator Linda Menard and Alaska Representative Anna Fairclough today expressed their concerns regarding CBS comedian David Letterman’s sexually exploitative comments regarding Governor Sarah Palin’s young daughter, and his refusal to apologize not only to the Palin family, but to a nation of women he offended. “I have been watching this progress for nearly a week and still…
