Open Thread – Enable Cookie

Some silliness for a Saturday. It reminded me of my dad who would, every time he had a fortune cookie, ceremoniously look through the half-spectacles on the end of his nose, unfurl the fortune, and in a very grave tone say, “Help. Help. I am being held prisoner in a Chinese cookie factory.” It always made me laugh, even though I knew it was coming.

Hungry Kids are the Latest GOP Political Pawns

By Elstun Lauesen “Christ of the Breadline” by Fritz Eichenberg (1901-1990) is a beautiful woodcut that instructs us to remember that Christ may appear in any form, calling upon our capacity for grace. Mr. Stoltze and his fellow Republicans would be wise to remember the parable of Lazarus and the rich man. Lazarus, covered with sores, lies at the gate of a rich man who refused him. They died on the same day. Lazarus was welcomed into Heaven; the rich man was not. Readers will not be surprised to learn that I was once an aspiring evangelist. At the age…

Mudflix – When Mitt Romney Came to Town

This 28-minute mini Mittens movie may as well have come from Moveon.org, but instead, the force behind the operation is none other than the equally loathsome Newt Gingrich. Now, mind you, even though the messenger is less than stellar, the message is pretty accurate and hard-hitting. This is worth setting aside a little time for. Enjoy watching the elephant on elephant violence that is the current crop of GOP candidates. If Romney is the heir apparent, and will go head to head with Obama in the fall, stuff like this will make sure that he enters the race with a…

Unvetted Palin Says Republicans Should “Vet One Another.”

Sarah Palin, perhaps politics’ most high-profile vetting escapee seems to have a strong opinion on the matter of vetting when it comes to people who are not Sarah Palin. Despite documentation that proves Palin was never vetted (as John McCain and others claim), she is waving the red flag, encouraging Rick Perry, Newt Gingrich and others to continue their public “vetting” of Mitt Romney and the cast of Republican presidential hopefuls. Palin says that criticism of Romney’s record as the head of Bain Capital is fair and that he should provide the public with proof of his claims that he…

Open Thread – One Too Many

This picture was not taken in Alaska. While we do have moose a-plenty, we do not (as a rule) have apple trees enough to cause this yearly Swedish phenomenon. In the fall, it seems, our Swedish ungulate friends develop a taste for the intoxicating fermented snacks. This guy, after imbibing on the low-hanging fruit, reached higher with disastrous results. Luckily for all, no one was injured, and the moose teetered away after mostly sleeping it off in the yard. You can read more about the incident HERE. And for periodic moose-related news and status updates, you can follow the Mudflats’…
