Celebrating Mixed Messages.

So….. Abstinence didn’t work for Bristol Palin. And…..she doesn’t think it works for anyone else. But….she’s now a teen spokesperson for an abstinence organization. And…Candie’s, the organization who runs this abstinence foundation, has ads like this.

Open Thread – Blue Sky & Vitamin D(emocracy)

(brushing grass off arms) It’s a perfect day in Anchorage.  Warm, but not too warm.  A cloudless sky.  A slight breeze.  And I’ve come to a conclusion. There are few things in life quite so wonderful as lying in the grass on a warm spring day with a dog and a kid, looking at this: The only things that interrupted that amazing blue vista were an occasional recreational aircraft heading in the direction of Seward, and a twig-carrying magpie working to put the finishing touches on the summer abode. After a long cold dark winter, you’ll have to forgive me if…

Open Thread for Anything But Dan Sullivan

It was Friday night until recently, and for those of you who are as up to your eyeballs in Dan Sullivan as I am, here’s an open thread to start the weekend and talk about other stuff.  After today, I truly believe if I hear the name Dan Sullivan again my brain will start bleeding.  So, off I go to bed. Make it stop!  (Runs upstairs and dives into bed pulling covers over head) See you in the morning.

Palin in Indiana. The Whole Enchilada.

OK, this is not for the faint of heart. But it answers the question that was on everyone’s mind as the Legislature deals with the frantic last week of the session, working on budgets, a senate appointment, an attorney general confirmation, and other critical issues. Good question.

Unity for Eric Croft!

What better way to celebrate this evening than to hang out with a bunch of happy Democrats at an Eric Croft fundraiser!  It was held at the home of Senator Mark Begich and his wife Deborah Bonito.  Little Jacob Begich met us in the driveway, and told me he’d have to “wand me” for security purposes.  And sure enough he did, with a little plastic “security device”.  He was having a grand time as the security guy.  Very cute. The event was absolutely packed. I don’t know how many were there total, but at times it was almost impossible to get…

Palin Reacts to Ross Smackdown.

And here is the official word from the governor on the rejection of Wayne Anthony Ross.    Dateline Indiana: “In an unprecedented move, the 26th Alaska Legislature today rejected Governor Sarah Palin’s nomination for attorney general. Lawmakers failed to confirm Wayne Anthony Ross by a vote of 23 to 35. “I believed I knew what Alaskans wanted when I selected an individual who is a strong backer of 2nd Amendment rights, a staunch supporter of the state Constitution and a defender of life,” Governor Palin said. “Wayne Anthony Ross supports responsible, ethical development of Alaska’s rich resources. I’m surprised that legislators…

WAR is Over! (Updated with Roll Call Vote)

23 for and 35 against. House – 16 yea, 23 nay Senate – 7 yea, 12 nay I have to say it.  I am proud of my Legislature!  Well, I am proud of 35 of them, and that’s saying a lot.  Trust me. Here’s the roll call vote, courtesy of the Daily News Miner: Alaska House (Richard Foster, D-Nome, who caucuses with the largely Republican majority, was excused) Yeas – 16 John Cohill, R-North Pole Nancy Dahlstrom, R-Anchorage Anna Fairclough, R-Eagle River Carl Gatto, R-Palmer John Harris, R-Valdez Mike Hawker, R-Anchorage Carl Johnson, R-Anchorage Wes Keller, R-Wasilla Mike Kelly, R-Fairbanks…

The Unhinging Continues

Here’s a status update on the “gang of three”, Palin’s state senate appointments to a Democratic seat left vacant by Kim Elton.  None of the three was put forward by the actual Democrats themselves, which is how it’s supposed to be done. These three rogue picks fall out like this: Joe Nelson – Rejected already by the Senate Dems, but still on the list of three until today, when he wisely withdrew his own name. Tim Grussendorf – Rejected already by the Senate Dems.  “Didn’t realize he was a Republican until a couple weeks before the appointment.” Alan Wilson –…
