Open Thread

Well kids, I’m beat. Tomorrow I’ll have an election analysis for The Huffington Post and will be hosting a chat at The Washington Post, talking about the Alaska election. I’ll post more details when I have them. For now, goodnight. Tomorrow we rise to fight again.

Alaska Election Central Report

8:40pm The polls have been closed for 40 minutes. Sitting here at Election Central in Anchorage.  No results yet. The place is packed with local and national media. None of the candidates are here yet.  This is as busy as I’ve ever seen it.  Check back for updates. I’ll be posting information as I get it.  In the meantime… we wait. 9:00 Polls closed for one hour and still nothing.  Never seen it this late. 10:08pm Don Young has entered the building. Guess what he had on his arm?  Yes, the Mayor’s party planner.  No, I am not kidding. This…

HAPPY E DAY!

~Alaskans for Sanity at the Rally in D.C. / photo from Mudflatter Tory This is it – the big day. There will be exciting victories and bitter disappointments across the country, but however the day ends, we will have at the very least exercised our most basic right in a democracy. And as always, there will be places where problems arise. So here’s the best thing you can do. Bring your cell phone to the polling place, and if it doesn’t have video capabilities, bring a video camera. Document any irregularities you see. It can make all the difference in…

Rally to Restore Sanity in Anchorage — Photos

So here are some of the photos from yesterday. The weather was actually good, with a beautiful blue sky. It was a nice gathering and exactly the right length–one hour–so that no one got TOO cold. John and Heather Aronno (leaders of the Young Democrats and bloggers on Alaska Commons) Of course, the best part is always the signs. As you can see above, I had to let a faithful Mudpuppy lead us off! Great pic of our Shannyn (surprise guest speaker) and John Aronno, co-coordinator of the rally with his wife, Heather. Food not bombs…a worthy sentiment and some…

Open Thread – Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear

What a great day.  It’s been a whirlwind trip to say the least. Running on no sleep and lots of coffee. Both are catching up to me at the moment but I’ll leave you with one of the many pictures I shot at the rally in DC today.  Rally-goers sit on the steps of the Smithsonian Museum.  Heading home to Alaska tomorrow morning, and then the final rush to election day!

Lisa Murkowski: She’s changed, we haven’t.

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) released their latest commercial for the benefit of Scott McAdams, describing Lisa Murkowski’s mischaracterization of her political stances: The video is great and the message is spot-on. This gives me the opportunity to talk about a piece of Senator Frank Murkowski’s history where we can see Lisa following in her dad’s footsteps. During the Rachel Maddow Show’s visit to Alaska, Lisa Murkowski discussed the time (back in the 80’s) that the Moral Majority took over the Republican Party (5:20 on the video): What she does NOT discuss is how her father, then Senator Frank…

McAdams Full-Page Ad: “I’m Twice the Man Joe Miller Is…”

As a large girl myself, I’m infuriated but not surprised by the ignorant Conservatives, (or DINOs, or folks with mental health issues) who can find nothing to use against Sitka Mayor and US Senate Candidate Scott McAdams except his size:   –ADN “AK-Voices” right-winger, Brian Sweeney forgoes credibility in lieu of insulting size-references to Mayor McAdams in at least two of his “articles.” (I have no doubt his sneering commentary is a throwback to some kind of High School trauma involving a football player and his head in a swirling toilet.) –Facebook fans obsessed with Lisa or Joe have become desperate now that…

Open Thread – Boots on the Ground in D.C.

I arrived a little bedraggled, but happy in Washington D.C. tonight. I’m not even pretending to try to adjust to the time difference so tomorrow should be interesting.  If you see someone on TV napping in the middle of the mall, it just might be me. My day started long ago, and as I arrived bleary-eyed at the airport and got on the security line I was standing behind a guy with a 1/2 beard and more hair gel than ought to be legal. I wondered to myself if this was going to be a new “thing” and if guys…
