America by Heart – Chapter 1, We the People (Part 1 of 2)

OK, I’m saying it flat out. This chapter was crap.  It was like a crap sandwich, only the bread was also crap. Crap on crap with a side of crap.  I read it in one sitting and I kept checking ahead to see how many pages were left.  I pet the dog, I reclined on the couch with a big pillow and still I could feel my blood pressure creeping up like the mercury in the thermometer of a flu victim.  Actually by the end I sort of did feel like a flu victim. I don’t know who actually wrote this…

America By Heart – The Introduction

And so we begin the blogging of the book.  Today, it’s just the Introduction, which will give us all a chance to steel ourselves for what is to come.  As usual my internal mutterings will appear in red. Page ix – The scene opens at the Boston Tea Party rally last spring.  And the first line of the book, I kid you not, is: “Do you love your freedom?!”  The words rush out of me. We can tell from this opener that this book is indeed a work of fiction, otherwise it would have read: “Do you LOOOOOOOOVVVVEE your FREEEEEEEEDOMMMM?!?!?!?” The words shoot…

Who’s the Real Peeper? Palin v. Neighbor in New Show for TLC.

Alas, we have been ignoring her but she has not fulfilled her end of the bargain and gone away. Far from it. Last week I received a lovely email invitation from TLC asking me if I’d like to attend an open house event in New York City for bloggers and online media to learn more about Sarah Palin’s Alaska. It was a nice invitation and it assured me that the show was not  “political.”  I passed.  Even I have my limits. I hope I have your forgiveness. Those in attendance were treated to a little extra sneak peak of the…

Book Wars. Palin v. Johnston – Who’s Got the Slam Dunk?

Oh boy. Vanity Fair does it again. Get ready for the latest teaser extraordinaire about life in the Palin house after the 2008 election. The world’s most infamous ex-almost-son-in-law has let loose a couple interesting little nuggets of which there promise to be more in the upcoming full article entitled “Me and Mrs. Palin.” “The Palin house was much different from what many people expect of a normal family, even before she was nominated for vice president. There wasn’t much parenting in that house. Sarah doesn’t cook, Todd doesn’t cook—the kids would do it all themselves: cook, clean, do the…

Open Thread – And the Winner IS….

Well, here’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for.  The top 10 titles for Sarah Palin’s memoir.  So many wonderful suggestions came in after the poll went up I’m almost tempted to have another one.  You notice I said “almost” because frankly, I don’t know if I can handle another day of non-stop laughter like that.  It’s rather a shock to the system, especially so close to the end of the legislative session. But, without further delay, here are our top 10 vote getters out of 1561 voters over a 48 hour period.  Remember that The Audacity of Hype, and…

Name That Book!

I solicited book name ideas in my original post, but it seems that I wasn’t clear enough, so hopefully the title of this new post will redeem me, and give you all some fun. What is your idea for the title of Palin’s new memoir? Please don’t post anything in the comments of this thread except your book name ideas.  I’ll go through and pick out the ones I think are best from that thread and this one, and we’ll have a vote for the best,  like we did for the ice cream flavor.  In case you missed that one,…
