Palin’s Priorities.

I have to confess, that Mudflats has been in a lower gear than usual this past week.  Maybe it’s the sunshine – that sudden burst of Vitamin D and warmth that makes the world and the fingers seem to slow down.  I’ve got some catching up to do. What’s to say about the whole Miss California thing that hasn’t been said?  We all know she only favors “opposite marriage.”  We know about the breast implants paid for by the pageant, we know about the topless photos, and we know that she and Sarah Palin have a lot in common.  Both are…

Wasilla High Abstains.

Well, looks like Palin got expelled.  No, not Bristol.  Sarah. Tonight is the graduation ceremony for Wasilla High School, and Bristol Palin is graduating.  This did surprise me a little.  Back when I was a youth, if your hind end was out of the chair for more than 18 days out of the 180 day school year you were toast.  Summer school for you, unless you were dead.  I know that if I had had a baby and accompanied my parents on the campaign trail during the school year, I’d have missed way more than 18 days.  But times change,…

Name That Book!

I solicited book name ideas in my original post, but it seems that I wasn’t clear enough, so hopefully the title of this new post will redeem me, and give you all some fun. What is your idea for the title of Palin’s new memoir? Please don’t post anything in the comments of this thread except your book name ideas.  I’ll go through and pick out the ones I think are best from that thread and this one, and we’ll have a vote for the best,  like we did for the ice cream flavor.  In case you missed that one,…

The Audacity of Hype! Palin Signs Book Deal. But is it Legal?

Well she’s gone and done it.  She’s had them written about her, she’s tried to get some pulled off library shelves, but now the Governor will have one of her very own.  A book! Reports are now out that Sarah Palin has signed a deal with HarperCollins. “There have been so many things written and said through mainstream media that have not been accurate, and it will be nice through an unfiltered forum to get to speak truthfully about who we are and what we stand for and what Alaska is all about,” Palin said in an interview today in which…

Palin Cancels Friday Night Date With Dog Barbecueing Jew Counter.

You know….sometimes when I type headlines, I really really wish they weren’t true.  I cannot emphasize enough how much that is the case in this instance.  No matter how much I bang my head on the desk, this guy just won’t go away.  First let me start with a disclaimer. Perhaps I should have said “former dog barbecueing  jew counter” because those things happened a long time ago.  So, you know… if you’re inclined, you can just move beyond that fact and let bygones be bygones.  Hey, we all did crazy stuff in our youth.  I’m sure there are many former dog…

A Party’s a Party, No Matter How Small.

Oh, don’t we love the drive by cleverness of flyinureye?   I always do a little happy dance when my inbox has a special treat from the Mudflats Graphics Department. Apparently the only one who thinks Palin and her magic branding iron can turn this shrinking elephant into something other than….a shrinking elephant, is Rush Limbaugh. Discussing the Republican listening tour conducted by Former Governors Jeb Bush (FL) and Mitt Romney (MA), and House Minority Whip Eric Cantor, radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh said yesterday that they are “embarrassed” by Sarah Palin. Alaskan progressives, perhaps, have never actually identified with Jeb…

Ethics Complaints and the Power of Precognition

The Daily News in an op-ed piece yesterday said something interesting. Alaska citizens have a right to file ethics complaints against their elected representatives. State law guarantees it. But when Alaskans use the ethics law to score political points, they abuse that right — and may put it at risk. Score political points?  Abuse their rights as citizens?  Wow.  That’s a fairly strong accusation.  And it makes the assumption, of course, that the complaints are frivolous, and without merit.  It sounds like something we ought to know.  But how do we determine if the complaints are indeed frivolous?  Well, we could…

Black Hat, Mint Julep, Piles of Cash and Karmic Imbalance… Alaska Meets Kentucky.

Well, don’t that beat all.  In another stunning display of “you can’t make this stuff up,” yesterday’s Kentucky Derby winner, a 50:1 longshot named Mine That Bird belongs in part to Mark Allen, son of former CEO of Veco Corp. Bill Allen. Yes, THAT Bill Allen.  The Bill Allen that copped a plea deal with the feds to turn over the likes of Vic Kohring, Pete Kott, and Ted Stevens.  That last one didn’t work out too well, but nevertheless he tried. And it doesn’t stop there.  Part of Bill Allen’s plea deal with the feds was that Mark would receive…

“Alaska Fund Trust” – It’s the New SarahPAC!

SarahPAC is so….yesterday.  All the cool kids are now throwing their hard-earned money to Alaska Fund Trust! Campaign Solutions, the Republican consulting firm running the show at SarahPAC has dropped the PAC like a hot potato “parted ways” with Sarah Palin’s political action committee, whose first financial disclosure we can look forward to in June.   This news came the day after an ethics complaint was filed against the governor alleging that the contractual relationship between the Governor and SarahPAC is a violation of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act.  The group had been working with the Palin operation to raise money for SarahPAC…
