The Big Kodiak Kiss Off.

It’s hard to believe it’s been 48 hours since Alaska became Palin-free. The parties, the polls, the articles, the late night talk shows… We’re all still getting it out of our systems. There are a lot of other things going on in the state and the wider world, but we still need to have our own ways of releasing… of letting her go… of detoxifying our systems. Mudflatter MM in Kodiak threw a “Just Desserts” party to bid a sweet farewell to Sarah Palin, whose gubernatorial performance assessment was immortalized in frosting.  Wackiness ensues. Signage outside marked the event location. A lipsticked pitbull,…

Open Thread – Quitter

Sarah Palin’s Quit Day concided with the annual Red Green River Regatta in Fairbanks. Contestants created contraptions that floated down the Chena River, and are must follow these criteria: * Every vessel must contain at least ONE roll of duct tape in its construction. * Each person on board all vessels must wear a USCG approved flotation device at all times. * All vessels with children under the age of 18 must have at least one adult on board. * No power allowed! Only floating. Vessels can have a motor; just don’t use it. * All entrants assume responsibility for…

Boots on the Ground in Fairbanks – Sarah Palin’s Quitspeech

I was very pleased to have some great “boots on the ground” in Fairbanks for Sarah Palin’s big Quitspeech at Quitfest on Quittyday.  Thank you to Mudflatter Alaska Don who did a fabulous job reporting! There are also more pictures coming to entertain you later from other Mudflats “photobloggers.”  Truly this was a day and a speech that will live in infamy. ********************* July 26th, 2009. Abdication Day. The sun rose north by northeast of Fairbanks today at 4:30 AM, having set in the north by northwest last night shortly after 11:30 PM. It was mostly clear, with billowing dark…

Palin’s Farewell Address – Full Transcript

Sunday July 26, at 3pm Alaska time, Governor Sarah Palin stepped down from her position as governor.  This is the transcript of her farewell address. Yup, I took one for the team. It took three hours, but I made it. I’d been meaning to transcribe her rambling crazy “I’m not quitting, I’m just leading in another direction” lakeside babble-fest, but I never seemed to get around to it. And as crazy and rambling as that one was, I think this one is even better. Boots on the ground from Fairbanks coming soon! *************************** What an absolutely beautiful day it is,…

So Long, Sarah! Anchorage Bids Farewell to the Governor.

Well, today was the second-to-last stop on the Quitter Tour.  It was Abdication Eve here in Alaska.  Today at 2pm Alaska time, the governor will officially hand over the state, and all it’s unresolved problems to Lt. Governor Sean Parnell.  He’s known to us here as Caribou Ken, The Empty Suit, Sean Who? and Captain Zero.  What is he going to be like?  We’ll find out. I arrived at the Governor’s Picnic in what I thought would be plenty of time.  Boy was I wrong.  All available parking spaces were taken for what felt like miles around.  I found a lucky empty spot about…

Shoveling Through Kristan Cole’s Press Release…

Boots?  Check. Shovel?  Check. Aspirin?  Check. Flask?  Check. OK, looks like we’re ready to go on a field trip, and shovel our way through yesterday’s press release from Kristan Cole, trustee for The Alaska Fund Trust (aka Sarah Palin’s legal defense fund).  Stick with me and don’t get separated, or we may never find you in there.  It’s easy to get lost in the histrionics, the whining, and the unrelenting spin.  Ready? First off, we learn that the conclusions reached by Mr. Daniel are “unprecedented in the history of our country.”  Yes, never in 223 years and two weeks has there…

Ordinance 64 – Live Blogging, Round V

Yes, boys and girls… it’s time for Red Shirt Theatre, Act V. The Non-Discrimination Ordinance public testimony continues. The link for live streaming the Anchorage Assembly Meeting is HERE. Use this thread to live blog the meeting if you feel so inclined. Public testimony will be given regarding Ordinance 64, which extends Anchorage’s non-discrimination policy to include the words “sexual orientation.” The red shirt brigade are an organized crowd from several local area evangelical churches. This will be the second round of public testimony in front of new Mayor Dan Sullivan. Recent polling suggests that the ordinance has very good…

Hey, Lady! Get a Blog, Already.

Is there such a thing as too much blog material?  Back in the old days before Sarah Palin was on the national scene, I’d cruise around the internet to see what was happening, and when I was stricken with inspiration, I’d create a post.  Sometimes they were long, sometimes short.  Sometimes inspiration came right away, and sometimes I had to look around a while.  I’d hit the Anchorage Daily News, and then maybe Daily Kos or Huffington Post, I’d look at what the other Alaskan Bloggers were doing… I’d zip down my blogroll,  I’d check my email to see what…

And the Twit Goes On.

Cartoon by Tom Tomorrow 7 days and counting.  One week from today, Sarah Palin will join the ranks of national political celebrities and finally leave our poor little state alone.  Then, she’ll be everyone’s problem – bursting through cracked doors with abandon, electrifying the base, talking to Fox News at will, raking in gobs of money, and … opening a new Twitter account. That’s right, soon-to-be-ex-governor Sarah Palin herself has told us, through her communications medium of choice, Twitter, that she can’t wait until July 26 when she steps down from her position as governor, so she can stop being…

Palin Flashback. Thoughts on “Thick Skin.”

Sarah Palin on “hurt feelings” from Dennis Zaki on Vimeo. Dennis Zaki recorded this when ex-VP candidate Sarah Palin returned to Alaska from the campaign trail. I was there that night, freezing to death, just across the way from where Dennis was camped out with his camera with the rest of the media. While I was standing next to Sean Parnell, listening to a bunch of rabid Palin fans, clutchhing a cup of hot chocolate to keep from getting frostbite, Dennis got this great clip of Sarah Palin speaking words which now seem particularly amusing.
