Treadwell Signs Up for A Racially Targeted Voter Hit list

Ask any Alaskan what the Lt. Governor does and the best answer that one might say is ‘protecting the Seal of Alaska.’ That’s Sec. 44.09.015. for those keeping track at home. The other somewhat important item that the Lt. Governor does – is oversee elections. For some reason that’s not talked about too much. When Mead Treadwell ran unsuccessfully for Senate earlier this year it was briefly discussed that he should step down at Lt. Gov. as he would, if we won the nomination be overseeing his own election. But in the end he said he wouldn’t. Because, you know we can trust…

Anywhere but Alaska: Dan Sullivan from Yet Another Place

OH Dan, DC Dan. Now it’s… Dan Sullivan, MD? If you’re confused, don’t worry… so am I. One thing we can be sure of, at least for now, is that Dan Sullivan is not a Doctor. But he is from Maryland – at least according to Maryland. To be specific, the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation. This is only a problem if you’ve been telling people, let’s say on official state forms, that you are from Alaska. Which is exactly what Dan Sullivan did. We knew from the beginning of his candidacy that he was lying, we just didn’t…

Mommy & Daddy Sullivan’s Cash Floods Into Alaska

While most parents might send grocery money to their son while he’s away at college, or just starting out in a new apartment, Daddy and Mommy Sullivan have been trying to buy their son Dan a whole state. The Center for Public Integrity is reporting that Dan Sullivan’s Dad and Mom donated a cool $300,000 to Karl Rove’s American Crossroads – a PAC that has committed $5.5 Million for ads in Alaska. Originally, American Crossroads filings state the donor is “Glenmede Trust.” Not so fast. According to The Center for Public Integrity: “Glenmede spokeswoman Melissa Stonberg says the wealth management firm —…

Zephyr Teachout – The Anti-Fracking Candidate in New York

A while back, I had the opportunity to interview Democratic primary candidate for Governor of New York, Zephyr Teachout. She’s running against incumbent Governor Andrew Cuomo. Teachout has stood out as a progressive voice against Cuomo’s too-business-friendly, anti-environmental take on Democratic politics. She’s strongly anti-fracking, while Governor Cuomo supports test sites, and claims that the science isn’t in on the controversial method of resource extraction. Cuomo unfortunately refuses to debate her – even though she’s polling well enough to warrant recognition. In fact, he went so far as to ignore her at NYC’s Labor Day Parade. [watch the awkwardness here]…

A Night At the Races – Memorial Night for Kevin Ward Jr. [Photos]

Both my cousin and my uncle have been racing for years. My cousin holds world records in micro racing. The ‘Reuter’ name [my family name on my mothers side] is known throughout racing circles in Upstate New York… but somehow I had never actually photographed a race. Last month when Kevin Ward Jr. was killed by Tony Stewart on the track at the Canandaigua Motorsports Park, a local raceway had a memorial night in his honor. The accident made national sporting news as Tony Stewart is a professional NASCAR driver and the accident (so far, that’s what it has been…

The Tan Suit: Who Wore it Better?

The Republican’s latest attack on President Obama is centered around a tan suit. I wish that I lived in a world where that would be hard to believe. Congressman Peter King discussed the President’s remarks on ISIS yesterday. Transcript from Buzzfeed: “There’s no way any of us can excuse what the president did yesterday,” King said of President Obama on NewsMaxTV. “When you have the world watching… a week, two weeks of anticipation of what the United States is gonna do. For him to walk out — I’m not trying to be trivial here — in a light suit, light tan…

Palin & Olbermann on the R**Skins

It’s not often these days that we at The Mudflats get to write about Sarah Palin AND our old friend Keith Olbermann in the same story. It brings us back to that odd time when Palin went from being Republican nominee for Vice President of the United States, to ‘The Quitter.’ But by some magic they’ve both been talking about the same issue – the despicable name of the Washington DC football team.  I’ll give you Sarah Palin’s word-salad first and then follow up with Olbermann’s fun take on the team owner Dan Snyder. Palin, ever the martyr, makes this about “the PC police” and…

Ice Madness: Don’t Just Donate, Brag About It

Dennis Miller, before he turned into a raving right wing lunatic used to have a TV show where he’d start a segment by saying “I don’t want to get off on a rant here but…” He’d then proceed to go on a rant for the next several minutes. So, let me start this by saying… I don’t want to get off on a rant here but, what the hell is wrong with people? I don’t mean everyone, I just mean people that share this meme. The people that are sharing this meme are understandably tired of the ice bucket challenge taking up…
